Tropical Garden Bungalows

I really don't know why Tropical Garden got such bad reviews. I went there expecting the worst, but my friends and I thought it was great!
The location is ideal - away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets of Phi Phi where all the tourists swarm. It's really cute too, you actually feel like you're entering the 'jungle' because of all the rocks and trees.
Our bungalow was just fine - the fan worked, the mosquito nets didn't have holes, and the bathroom was clean. In fact, everything at the hostel was clean. We had a hammock out front, with a porch and railings where we could dry our towels and clothes.
And yes, the pool is a little green but it's not dirty. We loved the pool and it was great to relax by when we were too lazy to walk by the beach. We even used the swim up bar to order fancy tropical drinks. The guys who work at the bar are super nice and they play great music.
I would definitely stay here again.

Probably the worst beds we slept on in Thailand. Am still trying to get the crick out of my neck! Beyond that, it isn't very nice and you should be able to find something else on the island for the same price that has more amenities and nicer rooms.

After booking no accommodation on Phi Phi for New Years Eve we were delighted to find this hotel. Every single review on this site is negative so we were a little nervous but were willing to take the risk and just turn up. It was 1/3 of the price of everything available online before we arrived and didn't tie us in to some random gala dinner. The hotel was about 15 mins walk from the pier, 10 from the beach and 5 from the restaurants etc. In the real world - this is NO time at all! We had a decent room which was a little dark but so what, its Thailand! We had a room with no hot water or aircon but really for NYE we were in there very little. I think travelers going to Thailand expecting to pay 1 USD for something half decent are still a little trapped in the early 90s, you're too late for that! Phi Phi however has changed a lot since I last visited 8 years ago and I wouldn't go back. The beach is ruined, the waters murky (may be because of time of year, or possibly/probably Tsunami) and the average traveler is 18 and drunk. Still a laugh for NYE and make sure you get out to Railay straight after!

Ko Phi Phi's smelly, overcrowded, awful Tonsai Village makes Laos's Vang Vieng look quaint. Tropical Garden Bungalows is located on a quieter spur of Tonsai Village, but it's still part of the problem. If you must stay on Ko Phi Phi, and you seek an atmosphere not covered in garbage, there are still some great spots. You can spend the day at one of the resorts at Long Beach, even if you're not staying the night there. Rent a snorkel and fins (100 Baht) and go explore the reefs and rocks. Hike over the viewpoint to the quiet beaches on the north side of the island. Go on a snorkel tour with Adventure Club.

But to stay cheaply in high season, you may have to suck it up and stay in a place like Tropical Garden Bungalows. Bring earplugs!

we booked the hotel from a agency in thailand.. the pictures looked amazing but the hotel is really digusting!
the hotel is expensive, the view from our windows were trashes, the rooms are dirty..
never go to that hotel! we were really disappointed especially when in thailand, you can get a better guesthouse for half price!

After reading some horrible reviews on here we decided against booking Tropical Garden Bungalows during our 6 night stay on Phi Phi and opted to pay a lot more at the PP Princess Resort. However after 4 nights we had to move and so went to look at Tropical Garden. The setting is stunning... up near the viewpoint and surrounded by jungle. The bungalows are set high up so you feel like you are staying in a treehouse and the views of Phi Phi are stunning. The best thing about this hostel was the stunning pool complete with swim up bar and sun loungers. The pool looks a little green but its just the tiles they have on the bottom and we couldn't get enough of it - very refreshing in the intense heat! We stayed in a fan room which was a little hot at night but apart from that we couldn't fault it for the value. Our friends stayed in one of the newer air con rooms and NONE of us had bedbug bites. We also knew two other people that stayed here and they didn't have any problems either. There were lots of families staying in the poolside bungalows which came complete with air con and your own hammock. The swim up bar does food all day and the best lemon shakes in Thailand! There is also a chill out reading area. The location is great as its a short walk to the main beach, bars etc but far enough away to get a decent nights sleep at night. I would definitely go back to Tropical Garden!

Do I need say more??? Very nearly ruined our whole trip to Thailand as we woke up with about 100 giant bed bug bites all over our entire bodies and spent the rest of the trip trying to make sure we were not infesting the other places we stayed.
