“Fun little bungalows”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2012

So this place isn't the height of luxury - but i'm a student traveller and had a great stay here! It was my first experience of staying in a bungalow and I loved every minute of it. We had a hammock outside the front of our bungalow, shack, shed-thing, and a large double bed inside and an indoor-outdoor bathroom which I thought was great. We also had two resident lizards which highly amused me but if you are scared of bugs or animals I wouldn't recommend staying in a bungalow anywhere!

The pool was pretty grimy but provided us with a fun place for a few drinks in the evening (as they have a swim up bar) and none of us got ill from the water so it can't have been that bad!

Overall we had a great time here and I would recommend it to anyone young who isn't looking for luxury, but is looking for a fun complex that isn't right on the cramped streets of Koh Phi Phi! As an adult with money, i'd stay somewhere else!

Make sure you get the newly renovated rooms - each room has tv, comfy beds, clean sheets and towels. I was hesitant to book this because of bad reviews from other sites but I was very happy because I got the actual rooms i booked! This hotel though is just far from the main action (beach party, muai thai ring, shops, restos) but this gives good value for money as you can't get this same quality of accomodation in central phi phi don at a very low price.

We arrived in Phi Phi and were taken to this hotel by a man at the pier, who said that it was cheapest and it was very nice. However when we arrived to the hotel after trekking up a hill we discovered the room was merely a shack with a mattress on the floor, a small, terrible fan which probably heated the room more than it cooled it, a dusty mosquito net and the water was cold. The worse part was that it wasn't that cheap compared to may hotels on the island we found afterwards, it cost 800 baht a night (£16 in low season). We later discovered a lot better hotel just down the road called 'Phi Phi garden', at only 600 BHT for a lovely bungalow with hot water, a proper bed and a ceiling fan.

Uk 45yrs old couple tried three different places once we arrived without booking off the packed ferry from Phuket. (400bart/£8 each).
Got on ferry deliberately last but could see our bags on top of pile. Over 300 people every where sitting on boat for 2hrs...
Got bags separated and waited 25 mins for rugby scrum to claim bags and clear pier once we arrived....
At end of pier there is a booth that touts offer a massive variety of accom with a wall full of pictures and prices. Say yes to one and they call a man to come and collect your bags in a trolley. Or you can limber your bags in 32 degrees looking for somewhere to stay. Let them do the work... A mass of busy streets and hundreds of people await as your walk behind the trolley man.
Cheap accom is now 800brt (£16) for a double fan room. First night found a little noisy not from music (which now stops at 2am) but druken persons walking back.
Moved to Tropical Gardens which is more up hill and well cleaned with variety of rooms. bungalow at 1200brt (£24 for both of us) is average.
Clean pool, nice bar pool area and landscaped winding paths that lead to the rooms.
10 mins walk to beach and many food, massage outlets to choose.
250 (£5 each) afternoon snorkelling tour on longtail boat to Maya beach with food, water and equipment visiting four different sights and watching sunset also included. Best trip your money can buy.
Diving is also good with standard price of 2500 (£50 each) for half day two dive all equipment included offered througout island.
Tropical gardens is a chilled place with no bed bugs as stared in previous posts. I believe they may have thought that the occasional wood termite (harmless little creatures that like wood) leave a small saw dust maybe on you bed. Move you bed!
Worth booking this place. We are staying now a week in this delightful chilled place.

Unfortunately we didn't book before going to phi phi so was our last option since most places we're full !
First thing I did was to check trip advisor when we went there( they have free wi fi which one only thing good). After I saw most people writing for bed bucks I got afraid ! Thank god we didn't had any problems like this but only with this idea was difficult to sleep .
Rooms have nothing inside, actually I can just sleep there, prices where still same like other places much better.. Location is ok since Its near center of phi phi but too much dirty around but also that's in many places there!
Staff it's not true they not so friendly , especially the males. Some female where smiling little bid. At one occasion I needed something and they offer their assistance which is plus.
Swimming pool I just saw.. Nothing special but it's surprising place like this has a swimming pool and bar there.
Definitely try to go somewhere else ! There are much better places in same or better prices, and book from before!! If u want more quiet stay in long beach and not near pier .. The area there is getting to crazy with drinking at night etc except if this is what u looking .

We had a good experience staying with the tropical garden. We stayed on the second floor of the main house for a few days and then moved to a bungalow. The only thing that frustrated us were the bed bugs. Once at night I started scratching myself and I woke up to see that there were bloody spots on the blankets and the bugs too crawling quickly back into the darkness. This only happened in the bungalow. We told the reception when leaving the room (we left the same day, probably we did not feel the bed bugs before, because we were tired). But she said "Sorry" with such a face that she did not even mean that. That was a bit upsetting. I don't know if they solved the problem after all though...

Otherwise, I liked the place. There is not much to choose from in Koh Phi Phi. The location is further away, so you have the peace when you want to sleep and not only party. It is definately not TOO FAR, because nothing is far in Koh Phi Phi. There is a cute tropical pool in the backyard. The chef there makes wonderful tuna sandwiches with warm just baked bread. Highly recommended. This pool really adds a lot on a hot day. You can just soak there and do not need to go to a far away beach over the mountain, if you do not feel like doing that. If you want a good view of Koh Phi Phi, get a room on the second floor of the main building.

Room Tip: If you want a good view of Koh Phi Phi, get a room on the second floor of the main building. the sun...

Somewhat surprised at the lower than anticipated rating here. But to be fair, we didn't experience any bed bugs (only here 1 night).

This place, overall, is fine and a relatively good deal with the amenities provided. Some previous reviewers have noted the cracks in the door/walls, but that is what the provided mosquito net is for. Don't expect to get things you would get at a Westin when you're paying $20-$30 U.S. a night!!

The pool is an added bonus here....but the staff is not. I think they've about had it with foreign tourists and have resorted to treating everyone like dirt. We were quoted 800 baht per night for a room with 1 bed and the staff KNEW we had 3 people. However, in the morning, the rate mysteriously increased to 1100 baht because of the 3rd person. Be aware of two things on Koh Phi Phi Don: 1) if you have 3 or more people in your party, you will almost have to book separate rooms or anticipate paying a 300-500 baht surcharge for the extra person which is utter b.s. considering the fact that the room is never serviced and b) anticipate a raging stampede of foreign tourists that nearly ruin the entire experience of the island.

The location of this place isn't bad, about 10 minutes from the mess of bars/restaurants....but if you have the means, I strongly recommend you consider finding accomodation on a quieter part of the island and enjoy what the island should be like!
