“Dirty but at least the staff was friendly”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

The hotel is situated up a hill away from the main town. While this means we had to walk down to the main town, it also meant the hotel was quiet at night. As it is quite far from the beach, the hotel was cheaper than accommodation in town (note that everything in Phi Phi Island is overpriced).

The rooms looked unfinished and the doors could only be locked by latches and padlocks. Our toilet door could not close and the toilet seat was broken. Water from the taps was brown and in the early morning, water supply is shut off. The room is spartan and dusty. As there is only one fan in the room, it got rather stuffy (don't open the windows unless you want to be bitten by mosquitoes). The rooms only had one light bulb which meant it was very dim at night. I guess this is a good thing since you won't be able to notice the cobwebs and dust in the corners of the room.

On the positive side, the pool was sizable and deep and a volleyball was provided for playing water games. The staff was also friendly and thoughtful.

We booked this place on the ferry over to phi phi as the brochure looked nice- the pictures must have been taken a few years ago because this place was awful. Everything is bad about the place and the staff are the unfriendliest people we met on our trip.Just dont stay here.

I stayed in this resort for 2 nights which was more than long enough. we were not looking for anything fancy, just clean would have been nice! the room was dirty. the bathroom door didnt close in either of the rooms. the staff totally ignore you and there was no toilet roll in the rooms! one day it rained and as the bathroom roof was made of straw rained poured down on top of one of the girls in the shower.
terrible stay its amazing this place is still in business.

Frist off are room was locatend appox 60 to 80 steep steps. When booked the room there was no mention of all the steps. What if I had an injury. over80...whatever.We also payed to much for our room from hell.It was dirty, spider webs and broken furniture...need I say more? The whole resort ...if you can call it a resort. Is run down and falling apart and I felt there was a number of safety issues. It may have helped if the staff was friendly!? My sister and I are easy going travelers...we could not leave this hotel fast enough!

Where to start - we've roughed it, and we're really not that picky, but this place was absolutely AWFUL. We will never, ever be back. We were supposed to stay for 4 nights but we left first thing in the morning as soon as we could (booked with a travel agent in Phi Phi and went to Koh Lanta for the remaining 3 nights).

When we got there - after climbing up the 3 or 4 huge flights of uneven cement stairs to our "mountain view" room, we were a little surprised to see the room was secured with just a latch and keyed pad lock. When we walked in, we were surprised to see the bed with a dusty mosquito net tied up above it. We later noticed small stains (orange dots) on the white bed sheets. We had a fan room, and the fan was covered in dust and spider webs, and was too high above the bed for us to reach to clean it ourselves (we tried). The bathroom was unfinished, and there was no hot water. The window in the room was made of glass slats and the top one was completely missing, leaving a 5" gap invitation for insects to fly into our room. The only lighting in the room was a small flourescent bulb hanging from a wire beside the window (which helped to attract even more insects...). We ended up sleeping with our own mosquito net up against the window to try and prevent insects from coming into our room, and used the hotel's mosquito net over us.

The final straw was when my boyfriend was in the bathroom later in the evening and saw a cockroach on the side of the sink. We went down and talked to management about the cockroach and missing window slat, and they seemed to care less, only said "bug spray, bug spray", and gave us a can of cockroach killer to spray our bathroom. We asked for a room upgrade but this was during Chinese New Year and they said no other rooms were available at the hotel. We walked into Phi Phi immediately after spraying our bathroom with cockroach spray, and booked a room at another hotel on a different island (Koh Lanta) and left first thing the next morning.

Bamboo Mountain View refused to give us any sort of refund or partial refund. We lost our money on the remaining three nights we had paid for but it was completely worth it to get out of this horrible hotel.

prebooked one night at bamboo hill as we were worried that we wouldn't be able to turn up and find somewhere. manager pointed us in the general direction of the room but wouldn't show us up, probably because it's half way up a mountain, up about 1000 uneven steps. we thought we might be greeted by a nice room with a good view, but no. we opened the pathetic small padlock that secured the room and i have honestly seen better looking prison cells. it was dark, dingey, smelt foul and the bed was as hard as a rock. the bathroom was an unfinished cocrete mess and the water we were expected to wash with smelt like eggs. the shower didn't have a fixture on the wall so you had to hold the shower whilst trying to wash your hair which is in fact, impossible. manager was so rude, does not care at all what squalor we had to live in, he just wants his money. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Room Tip: don't chose any room here

After reading the other reviews for Bamboo Mountain View myself and a friend were really worried about where we had booked our Christmas holiday. We arrived at Bamboo Mountain View and were pleasantly surprised. If you don't pay attention to where you are walking it can be hard to find, but get directions and it's easy enough. It is located far enough away from the noise for it to be quiet - day and night, but close enough that it really is only a 5-10 minute walk from all the restaurants, bars and the beach. Just as they say on their website - they are not located in the town. The bungalow was basic - a fan room with twin beds and cold water - but the sheets were clean, the mosquito nets worked and the beds were comfortable. When Phi Phi is hot - you don't need hot water! The staff weren't excessively friendly. However they answered your questions and helped you when asked which really is all you need. Breakfast was included in the room price and it was tasty enough for a free breakfast. The swimming pool was clean. Everything seemed in good order. I can't understand the other bad reviews as we really had a nice holiday at Bamboo Mountain View.
