the grand sea was an incredible place. everything about it was grand. the location, the people, the service, the food - you name it, it was as much as i could have wanted for being on a tropical island. duncan, the manager we associated with the most, was quite possibly the nicest, coolest, and most hospitable person you could ever meet.

not only do i recommend coming back here, i plan to return myself as soon as i'm in thailand again.

please please spend some time here, i promise you won't regret it.

If your heading to Ko Phangan and looking for good accomodation with swimming pools, helpful staff, lovely restaurant and seperate bar, this is definately worth a look.
This resort is near Tongsala and easily accessible by taxi or motorbike to the more "party areas" of Ko Phangan.
If you are heading here in low season and the resort is not busy, it is worth asking for a discount on the rooms, they are very reasonable.

On our arrival at Grand Sea we were impressed with the beauty of the resort, the initial greeting and first appearance of our room. Sadly after a day our impression started to change. Our beautiful beach side bungalow (an expensive room) had cobwebs, the fridge needed adjustment to work properly, the shower leaks onto the floor if you point incorrectly and the service faded with each day. Pillows and towels disappeared and often they had run out and were unable to supply replacements. The sea view restaurant was a place we learnt to avoid and on our last night a singer played electric guitar until the early hours outside our room without any prior notice. The lovely pool is so full of chemicals it is unpleasant to swim. Prior correspondence with them confirmed inexpensive Wifi in the room, which was not the case on arrival. The staff have little if any english skills and do not care to assist you if they can avoid it with "sorry, no" Final check-out is sloppy and unprofessional, especially bearing in mind their intended market attracted by their 3 star rating. (Which I expect will be altered on their next audit)
Grand Sea is a stunning location with lovely bungalows and buildings let down terribly by the service, or lack of it. We had intended to stay a month but changed resorts after 13 days. Our replacement is everything we imagined and we wish we had started our vacation here. If you do choose to stay at Grand Sea, I suggest you look carefully at the location of the bungalows and choose one well away from the beach front bar unless you enjoy loud street music until the early hour.

This place is great. It is more luxurious then the usual backpacker bungalow crowd but not on the high end of the market. What sets this place apart from others are:

The unique Thai architecture. We loved the design of the rooms and the buildings.

The beach. Walk along the secluded beach and you will discover and amazing, hidden gem. The beach 100 meters walk away was pure white sand, crystal clear waters and unspoilt dramatic landscape. Best natural beach I have been to in Thailand.

Location. Its very convenient to the toan of Thongsala, which has everything you need, including a market with plenty of street food. It's close enough for Haad rin beach for the parties and also many beaches on the west coast.

The manager, Chris, is a lovely guy who went out of his way to make sure we were relaxed and had everythign we needed.

Highly recommended.

My sister and I stayed at The Grandsea Resort as part of a full-moon party package. It was fantastic value and would have happily stayed longer. The rooms are all gorgeous (we stayed in the new building and suspect we might have even been the first to stay in the room!). The pools are lovely, though I'm not sure if they've quite got their chemical mix right as they seemed a little murky? The restaurant is pretty good but to be honest we had better meals in the nearby town (10 mins walk).
A couple of things worth mentioning:
we were on the 4th floor... no elevator...
On our first night we had toilet problems... we came home from town at about 9:30pm to find our toilet dangerously close to overflowing. We went down to reception (no phone in the room to call someone) and reported they problem. They promptly sent someone up, he plunged and plunged, and fiddled with another toilet down the hall and eventually we had the all clear. He said that they'd been having problems with all the toilets on the 4th floor. It would have been nice if they'd sent someone up to have a wee clean of the bathroom after he'd finished, he'd dripped the plunger all through the room and the toilet seat and surrounding areas were all soaked with.... water? No biggie, it was about 10:30 by then so we cleaned it ourselves.
The beach isn't that great there (lucky they have TWO pools!), it's very shallow and like mud flats when the tide goes out, but very pretty.
Other than that it was a fantastic place to stay! Would definately stay again (on a lower floor!), and would recommend to any type of traveller.

As a backpacker from Canada, it was the nicest resort we stayed at during our trip to Thailand. The Grand Sea had very friendly staff, and was located on a beautiful beach. The short trip to and from Haad Rin was easily managed both during the day and at night. The Grand Sea had a VERY accommodating English manager who went above and beyond to make our stay in Ko Phagan enjoyable even when we were put into a difficult situation.

A quiet resort that I would recommend to both the party go-er as well as the traveler looking to relax poolside or by the beach.

Absolutely loved this resort. The grounds & buildings and everywhere is stunning. Located right on the beach with a gorgeous pool facing the water. Driving up to this place and not knowing what to expect we were blown away by how much this place stands out in comparison to other hotels nearby. And the price was amazing. Management is great, the English guy who runs it is so helpful, offering tips and advice and is really friendly. Rooms were beautiful as well & clean.
Overall this place is perfect. Great food, rooms, gorgeous setting, friendly staff and perfect place to relax for a few days
