“where party meets peace”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We decided to stay here after reading positive reviews from tripadvisor, for our halfmoon party. well all i can say is, all the reviews said it all. Great place, lovely owners, cute dogs, and AMAZING food.

upon check in, we were greeted by a lovely lady, showing us our cute villa facing right to the sea overseeing sunset. The room it self has all the basic amenities you can asked for, and the best part it has a hammock right in front of the villa. Before we were heading to the party, we decided to grab some food at the restaurant. It offers absolutely delicious thai food, the best massaman curry!

also the owner is really friendly, we were treated like friends instead of guests. chatted about travels, politics, etc. pretty cool lad!

if you are looking for a peaceful place to stay in phangan! this is definitely the place. Strongly recommended.

This place is paradise.

We turned up, got a hut right on the sea front. Fan room with ensuite hot water shower 750baht.

The rooms are very clean and not too hot. You can open the windows for a breeze and some fresh air all day.

The restaurant is amazing and I cannot recommend Noys cooking enough, even the chip butty was fab. Tom Yum and Noodle Soup and Massaman Curry were our favourites.

The beach is in a little cove so it's pretty much all to yourself and the sea is perfect for swimming.

It's a great location if you have a bike or are ok paying taxis otherwise a bit of a walk into the main shop area but we were there for 3 days and didn't leave at all and loved just chilling out.

Highly recommended

Phangan Rainbow Bungalows is located in Bankai just over the mountainside from the craziness of Haad Rin and equally as close to the Thong Sala pier. If you are looking for a quiet and beautiful place to stay minutes away from the full moon party mob but close to most everything on the island, this is the perfect location.

Martin, Noy and the rest of the family (including their two wonderful dogs) made us feel at home during our first trip to Koh Phangan. Their cousin next door rents brand new motor bikes for 150 baht per day and you can cruise the entire island and no need to worry about being overcharged or leaving your passport. You eat and drink all you want, show Martin what you are taking from the fridge and settle your bill the following day.

Thanks to Martin, Noy and the rest of the family for making us feel at home and a special thanks to Papa for the early morning ride to the Thong Sala pier! I'm already planning a trip back to Phangan Rainbow Bungalows!

Well I find myself back at Phagnan Rainbow for the second time in 6 months. ( the third time in 12 months for my partner ) When we arrived last night we were greeted by the friendly owners instantly. Even though the kitchen was closed they insisted they prepare a meal for us due to our full day of traveling. The food was absolutely delicious as always. To be quiet honest i have been wishing for Noys breakfast for a couple months while back in Canada My partner looked at me and stated " it feels so good to be home". The reception from the owners give you that home feeling. I love their dogs too.

The place is absolutely beautiful. The owners work very hard to keep this area super clean. If you have an questions about Phagnan they are there to assist any way possible. I have travelled all over the world and whenever you arrive at a resort / hotel the group want their money for the room and the food to be instantly paid for. This is not the case here at Phagnan Rainbows. Martin and Noy ensure you get to relax and worry about the other things later.

Phagnan Rainbows is located in the perfect place for the full moon party. A couple minute drive will bring you right the action of the party. When you had enough of the party you can return to this retreat. This place also gives you a great opportunity to meet other travelers. Last March we met two very good friends from Dubai and we remain friends to this day.

When you want to relax you have a hammock on your bungalow porch with some nice chairs or you can come to the beach and relax on the chairs there or the hammock. The ocean is super warm and you can go out hundred of feet when the tide is low or play beach volleyball.

We just came from Indonesia backpacking and when we arrived here at Phagnan instantly a sigh of relief came over us. Well let's just say it feels good to be "home".

We love this place so much, it was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. 3 days had passed before we realised that we hadn't gone anywhere or done anything! The beach is absolutely beautiful and it changes every single day. Martin and Noy are wonderful. Noy's cooking is the best Thai food I've ever tasted. The rooms were light, bright and spacious, right on the beach with the most stunning uninterrupted views. Our room was basic as advertised with only a couple of beds and a bench which was absolutely fine but a small table or some drawers might be helpful to store things on rather than have things on the floor. The room also had a nice clean modern bathroom and a great shower! A truly unforgettable stay with the most lovely and friendliest hosts I have come across on my travels. I can't wait to return one day.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed in Rainbow bungalows originally back in 2000. This trip was our first time back to Thailand for 12 years. We wanted a lazy holiday so decided to have a look online and see if Rainbow was still there and see if they had dropped the standards which we remembered being quite high.

Happy with the reviews online we proceeded to book Rainbow for 12 nights. On arrival we were pleasantly surprised to see that the whole place had had an overhaul since our last visit with new bungalows and a new restaurant area.

On our arrival Martin upgraded us to one of their beautiful beach front bungalows and Noy knocked up our first Fried rice of our holiday. Martin has a special kind of service style, he tried to convince us he remembered us from 12 years ago which would be doing very well considering the thousands of people through the place since. We were however treated like long lost friends and ate like kings and queens for the 12 days. The food was so good that we rarely ventured elsewhere for anything else. There is however an amazing pizza place around the corner called Fabios.
I have a liking for hot Thai food and rarely in Thailand will anyone serve a foreigner proper Thai hot due our delicate constitutions. Noy soon learned just how hot she could go and occasionally tested me with an extra chilli.

All in all, we had an amazing Holiday and wont be leaving it quite so long the next time. Did I mention the beach ? Just look at the pictures.

Rainbow Bungalows are situated on a beautiful quiet and secluded beach on the island of Koh Phangan. Run by Martin, an Australian and his Thai wife Noy together with her parents and other fabulous staff, you will want for nothing staying here.
The beach area (water is shallow at certain times of the day) is cleaned on a daily basis and the property is surrounded by beautiful gardens lovingly tendered by Noy.
Martin is passionate about the environment and it shows.
This is not a 5 star resort. The bungalows have fans and some like ours had air conditioning(Bungalow 1a right on the beach is great). There are no Tvs , fridges, telephones, swimming pool (who cares) etc but there is free wifi , comfortable beds and bungalows, great sundecks with hammocks, absolutely clean in all respects and right on the beach.
Noy prepares meals from 0730 until 230pm for breakfast and lunch and dinner nightly from around 630-830pm and she is a fantastic cook using her own grown herbs and spices and buying fresh fish and other products on a daily basis.
Noy is happy to share her receipes and spent time showing my wife how to cook particular dishes. The meal she prepared for my wife's 55th birthday was as good as anything you would get in Australia. There is no need to leave this place to eat but if you are hungry outside these hours, there is another resort next door (expensive by Thai standards) and another a couple of 100 metres down the beach.
A taxi out front to Haad Rin or in the other direction to Thong Sala will take about 20 minutes and cost 100thb.
Loved the way you helped yourself to beer, water and soft drinks from the fridge in the reception/restaurant area and marked down what you took to be charged for the following day.
Fantastic mix of people through Rainbow from all countries and the perfect havern to sleep off the hangover after one of the daily parties on this island.
Although probably suited to the younger market, my wife and I are middle aged and just loved the place.
If you are looking to get back to peace with yourself away from the worries of work, you could not find a better place.
We will be back but probably for more than a week next time and hopefully with our adult kids and partners.
Thank you Martin and Noy
Rob and Wendy

Room Tip: Room 1a on the beach is air conditioned and perfectly situated

Phangan Rainbow Bungalows, beautiful private bungalows on the beach. We have no dorms, no penniless hangers on, and no tacky triple x pool parties. We are not on the road... sorry, if that's how you roll! Our beach is awesome, located between Thongsala and Hadrin, just a stone's throw from all the action, but not too close! We have beautiful wood bungalows, well built to western standards. With a wonderful garden, on a quiet private beach, it's chilled when you want it, and can be wild when you want it! Our WiFi is commercial grade hotspot installation, and services the complete local area. We maintain top notch security, (which you don't get in many other places), with two pedigree and highly trained protection dogs. They will love you like family. We work hard to provide our guests with a really friendly, family vibe. Excellent value for money - one of the cheapest bungalow operations actually situated right on the beach! Nearly everyone rates our efforts favorably. We are top 3% across the board, out of all properties (650+) on Koh Phangan for price and service quality.
