“Amazing hotel/resort great food”
Reviewed June 3, 2011

The resort itself is amazing. It is a series of small huts which are very nice and well equipped. It has a small but very good swimming pool and a very nice bar area which is really nice on an evening. It is right next to the sea however the tide means its not somewhere you can really swim but its fine for sunbathing. The restaurant is fantastic, breakfast is amazing and we ate at the restaurants most nights as the food was good quality. It was a little pricier than in Hat Rin but good quality for the money. They had a tasting session of local food each day in the afternoon when we were there which was good and they have travel options available for the parties in Hat Rin. It isn't in a great location as you have to get a taxi everywhere which is a flat rate of 100Bht going anywhere and this soon mounts up however for what is in the resort and the value for money we were happy to take a hit on the taxi's. I would recommend this place at all times including for the full moon dates as its well out of hat rin so you don't get any of the trouble you do when staying there.

Experienced a horrible few days in the South of Thailand in the floods that hit in March 2011. The resort was lovely, great value for money. The food in the restraunt is AMAZING! Staff were very supportive during the terrible floods, and managed to carry on serving with a smile. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were great for the price. We were upgraded to a villa for the same price of a beach hut due to the bad weather. A big thank you to all the staff that supported us and kept us updated with weather reports. Would love to go back and see it in its beauty.

After a exhausting trip from Bangkok by taxi, plane, bus and boat we arrived on the pier of Koh Phangan. 1 advise from us to all that will travel this way to Milky Bay Resort:Give Milky Bay a call on arrival at the Koh Phangan pier. The number you can call is: [--]. They are ever so happy to pick you up with the hotel pick up truck. Dont let yourself be forced into a pick up truck taxi that will charge you the "rip-off rate" of 500 TBH.
The staff is always helpful to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
By the way: they have the best coffee we had on our trip.

Room Tip: Check the bed in the bungalow before you accept it

Sorry for the year late review.... but May 2010 - I spent my birthday hopping all over Thailand.. and after visiting Koh Samui and Koh Tao.. we finished off at the Milky Bay resort... just in time for the Full Moon Party... I found Milky Bay online...and they seemed to be a great resort.... that wasn't smack dab in the middle of Haad Rin..but far enough that you would be able to have some relaxation... just what we needed....

I booked the BEACHFRONT VILLA ... Took a while to find our driver from the pier...but we had a nice scenic ride up......Loved the reception area... just beautiful.... every staff member we met was amazingly friendly and warm......we had the upstairs bungalow.... It was immaculate... spacious... updated bathroom/wet room....Firm bed (which I love....hate soft beds)....My friend and I were so happy with the room..... Our little plunge pool on the deck was emptied and refreshed each morning...as it is filled with fresh water..not chlorine/pool water....

The RESTAURANT was really lovely... had the best limeade.... calamari...spring rolls.. pastas....fish with green peppercorn sauce was out of this world....breakfasts were great.... waffles... eggs....juices...etc....cocktails... they have a great music selection.... little bit Euro/House/Dance/Reggae....and everyone waits on you... not just one waitress/waiter.... they all assist.... In the evenings there is always some event... pizza night.. BBQ night.... tables are set up on the beach...and everyone is encouraged to come....its like coming down for family dinner...

By the end of day one.. we had become instant friends with one of the senior staff members/Lieutenant - NATALIE... She was most helpful... and offered tons of advice.. suggestions.. helped us book our spa appointments.... and sorted out our taxi for the Full Moon Party....

Now the BEACH here is not for swimming...as the tide is low all day.....and the most you will see is a few locals fishing...or digging in the sand for small fishes/crabs/etc... By late evening... when the tide comes in... and the staff is on break... they play volleyball.....and maybe take a dip...My friend and I booked a driver to take us to a more northern beach for the day....hoping for more bluer/deeper water....

The POOL is medium sized...but just right.. even has a deep end... the resort was full of some European kids at the time... so they hung around the pool a bit.. but by mid day... quieted down.....if you wanted some lazy time to yourself....

SPA - their spa is not big - its really one big hut in the middle of the grounds... but they do a great job!!! My friend and I had a facial... (no extractions... not that fancy.. more like a basic mask....and cleaning)... body scrub....massage....and they have a separate steam room with herbs.......which is awesome... the ladies were thorough...and very kind to us...

I had one mishap and drove the poor staff crazy.... I thought I had lost my little zip bag with the keys to my luggage on the beach.... and had them do a massive search everywhere... only to realise.. I had locked the darn thing in my suitcase by accident.... well no problem there.. one of the bell boys came up with a little knife/saw...and got my lock off in a few moments... *makes me wonder what makes Master lock so safe?...lol.. if it can be hacked off in 2 minutes flat!... Nonetheless... very helpful staff... and by the end of this trip... We had become very close with them all....and I am friends with a few on Facebook.. even one year after.... Milky Bay may not be in a "hip and happening" area... but it fits the bill for us... We took long walks... ate at some local restaurants up the road for lunch.. checked out little vendors... and were very happy to come home to our bungalow.. *besides the lizards waiting for us in our room...and on our doors...LOL... but hey.....they eat the mosquitos.... Plus we're Caribbean/Island girls.. and we're used to it.... If /when I make it back to Koh Phangan... I will most definitely be returning to Milky Bay... and I will book a few more tours to other parts of the island...

Summary -

Helpful Staff
Gorgeous Grounds
Great Food/Music
Cheap internet in the hotel lobby
PS - DVD's available at the front desk for you to borrow

PSSS - Pack a litte flashlight/torch...as coming home in the evenings...it can be quite dark on the property...and walking on the beach back to your bungalow

Being treated by family...
That's why I'll return.

This resort is in a good central location with plenty of things to do around it. You are near, but not too near the main town and within an easy motorbike ride of most places of interest on the island. The staff are friendly and easygoing. The pool has a good view of the ocean. Ban Tai beach isn't one that encourages swimming but the view is amazing.

We rented a motorbike and drove up to Had Yao on the west coast and over to Had Rin on the east. A the recommendation of one of the staff, we also visited the homemade ice cream stand on the way to the waterfall.

The rooms are cute and large enough to be comfortable. The only downside was the bed, being entirely too hard and we found we had to reverse the sheet and blanket before we could sleep well.

I enjoyed many late nights hanging out at Two Rocks beach bar right next door where you will find a mix of very cool and sociable people. Don't be shy, just introduce yourself and order a cocktail.

The breakfast is good and can be included in your room rate depending on where you book. I would recommend the Fishermans Restaurant just down the road to the east, or the Mexican place to the west for dinner.

Room Tip: Stay in one of the bungalows near the beach

We booked the beach front Villa at the Milky Bay for 4 nights looking forward to a romantic and private break.... unfortunately this was not what we got. We paid over £500 for our stay, a huge amount in comparison to other hotels we have stayed in, in Thailand. I felt that the Beach Front villa didn't live up to our expectations.
The beach front room is actually not on the beach at all, and is part of a two story hut, there is no privacy. We had other guests sun bathing right next to our patio (not even a foot away), and on the other side of the villa was a beach bar, the only way for guests to access the bar was to walk right across our patio.
Having just seen a previous review of the beach front villa on Trip Advisor, I would like to note that many of the problems brought up here (10 March) have not been rectified; the blinds still do not close properly adding again to the lack of privacy, the pool still leaks and needs to be refilled on a regular basis (though we never took a drip, due to privacy limitations previously highlighted)!
Obviously we were not happy with the room and on the first night explained that we wanted to leave the hotel (as we already had the best room and the upstairs room was not available). Unfortunately this was met with problems. The hotels policy is to make guest’s pay for the total stay as soon as they arrive and before they even see the rooms. We spent two hours discussing that the website cancellation was two days and that we would be happy to stay the first 2 nights but would like to spend the remainder of our trip in a hotel that better suited our needs (a romantic getaway – we actually ended up going to another were the accommodation was a much high standard and over 250 bahts less a night). Despite the 2 days cancellation policy on the website the management would not budge and we ended up paying for the third night as a cancellation fee even though we did not stay in the property (the 4th night was refunded though). However once this was agreed (on our first night) the manager Joe really did try to improve our remaining day at the Hotel, laying on a seafood BBQ for us, organising a safari day trip (was a great experience- highly recommend) and sorting out complementary massages, this was really appreciated and did improve our feelings towards the hotel.
The hotel staff must to be complemented they were pleasant and attentive the food was also delicious and really great value (a very good thing as there are next to no other options in walking distance).
In summary the hotel is a little bit shabby around the edges, perhaps a great place for back packers (with reasonably priced standard rooms), but definitely not for those looking for a romantic break.

We had a fabulous three nights at Milky Bay courtesy of their fabulous staff and fantastic facilities. The resort, located in Baan Tai, is a little further along the coast to the West of Haad Rin, where our friends were staying, however this suited us fine as we were happy to leave the chaos of the Full Moon Party and return home to the quiet serenity! We hired a scooter for a couple of days and didn't find the distance a problem, making it in to Haad Rin in 15 minutes. Taxis are also very cheap 100B per person each way. There is a collected of shops locally on the main road but it is mainly other resorts in this area.

The resort itself is stunning. It is right on the beach and has a fabulous pool and so many activities to keep my partner and I occupied, that included table tennis, pool and volleyball. The hut we stayed in was beautifully decorated, with a large bed, TV, air-con and sofa. We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a superior room which was presented well with flowers on the bed and other nice touches. Our room was serviced/cleaned everyday and we had no such problems sleeping or with our blinds. The only noise came from the geckos outside, however that added to the attraction of the place!

The breakfast, included in our hotel room price, was very filling and extremely tasty. We rarely had lunch as we were still so full from our full breakfast, omlettes, pancakes or fruit and museli! One evening we had fabulous pizzas and one lunchtime we had some tasty Thai cuisine. All in all we were very happy with the service, prices and food.

We'd definitely recommend the resort. It is a great place to kick back and relax but don't be put off by its location.. I think this is really a blessing in disguise!
