Sunset Cove is set on Chao Phao beach on the west coast, so a fairly quiet location well away from the full mooners. That said, we were easily able to get around the island by Taxi and Taxi boat.

Sunset Cove is made of approx 20 bungalows. We stayed in one on the beach front, which we felt was worth booking in advance for. Each bungalow has a small lounge with fridge, tv and dvd player, lovely bedroom with air conditioning and King Size bed, bathroom with both a shower barrel bath tub and open air shower. Rooms are very clean and insect free. Outside, the pool, dining areas and garden are kept in excellent condition.

You could easily spend a week here lounging by the pool, however the staff at Sunset cove made it really easy to get out and explore koh phangan. Whatever we asked for be it taxi's, kayaks, Elephant trekking or boat trips were swiftly arranged over breakfast.

Food is fantastic here - although we only ate Thai during our stay as it was so good.

As the name suggests Chao Phao beach is perfect for Sunsets, we got a couple during our stay, which are post card perfect. During May, the tide is quiet low around koh phangan which made the beach less ideal for swimming as it's shallow for a long way out, but as this is very common of many of the beaches at that time, don't be put off!

We've just come back from Thailand this week and this was one of our first places we stayed. We only stayed for two nights before moving up to the east, but we thought it was really lovely. The rooms were very roomy with a great out door shower room. there were a few mozzies though, which we found a lot in the west of the island rather than the east. The food was ok, a bit toned down, but there are a few places along the beach which do a good hot thai if your into it. I loved the gardens, with lots of opportunities to see butterflies and some amazing long tailed birds.
The staff were very helpful and service minded which I must say outshone Cookies Salad where we stayed on our way back down the island. On your well earned break you just don't want to have to worry about much, kick back and have some down time, which we didn't get at Cookies but got in truckfuls at Sunset cove - oh yes and the sunsets were divine!!!!!!!!!!!

My wife and I spent 6 days relaxing by the pool, eating great food and catching up on some much needed rest. We couldn't have found a better place than Sunset Cove. The staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. The bungalow we had fronted on to the pool and we could open up the bi-fold doors to watch the amazing sunsets. There is a torture chamber (gymnasium) you can use if thats you bent, and kyaks and mountain bikes to explore with. They also have a large library of DVD's if you want to catch up on some new releases. Along the beach, either side, there are bars and restaraunts and just down the road (walking distance ), a general store, laundry lady and car/motor scooter hire. All in all, a great place to laze around and relax!! We will be back soon!!! Graham & Alison.

We initially booked to stay at Sunset Cove for 7 nights and ended up staying for 15 nights! Would have stayed longer however they were booked up due to full moon. Ben and the rest of the staff were amazing! We have stayed in many hotels in Thailand but have never experienced such fantastic service. The staff manage to be attentive and relaxed at the same time and nothing is too much trouble. As has been mentioned already, the food was excellent value (best pad thai we have had so far) and the fruit shakes were too good! The rooms are cleaned every second day (not every third as mentioned below - maybe this is a change?) but there are always enough towels at reception if you want fresh ones every day. We had a villa back from the pool (the B row) which was fine for us as it seemed more secluded than the poolside rooms. We had laundry done twice, got rides to thong sala and to the ferry, watched the free dvds and used the free wifi and the office printer - everything was so easy! The pool is a highlight and even when it got busy there was always enough sunbeds.
We ate out at Big Mountain down the road and the Italian restaurant 'Dolce e vita' on the beach both were very good. I agree that the beach is not the best so if you really want to swim in the ocean everyday then this is not the best choice. But is you want relaxation, great service and food, clean rooms, huge pool and a tranquil setting - sunset cove is the place! A big thanks to Ben and the team for making our stay so special! Denise & Michael.

Stayed at Sunset Cove on 7-th - 9th of May. Decision to stay at the hotel was based on the top Tripadvisor's rating. There are a lot of cheaper, more beautiful and better situated resorts at Ko Phangan. First of all, no beach. The pool is good but it;s no need. The garden is beautiful, but full of biting mosquitos in the evening. Food in the hotel's cafe is cheap and simple.
Had chao Phao is situated at north-east, far from 2 most interesting locations on the island - Thongsala and Haad ring at the area with no shops and restaurants. At our request the hotel driver took us to Chaloklum ( 15 mins by car ) for 300 bahts. Having swimmed at that beach, we took a taxi to Thongsals for 400 baht. After dinner we again took a taxi back to the hotel for 300 baht. So transportation took more money than the dinner itself.
Snorkling on the neighbouring beaches was good (for 600 baht for trip per person). And I was very much impressed by the Bottle beach during the trip - scenery was great.
The internet was slow and signal very weak.
The conditioner was also weak and there was no conditoner in the bathroom
They cleaned the room once in 3 days.
Atmosphere in the bungaloos was relaxing and the staff was nice and responsive, but any way the hotel isn't worth the money it takes (we paid 2800 b per night for villa ).

we stayed at sunset cove for 2 night while traveling with another couple. At the end of our 2 week stay in Thailand we both decided this was the best accomodations we had. Great service, nice pool, reasonably priced, good food, nice bungalows. The only negative we could think of was they don't have a full service bar(only beer/wine coolers). So if you want a cocktail you have to walk down the beach to find one at another bar/resort. Also, the beach out front is pretty shallow and full of coral so tough to actually swim. Not a big deal though.as everything else was amazing. they also have free wifi so can sit by the pool and check email if necessary :)

Me and my friend spent 5 lovely days at the Sunset Cove. The wheather didn't do us any favours, so we didn't really get to see the famous sunset, but nevertheless the experience was spectacular. The staff was friendly beyond any expectation and the pool area was outstanding compared to anything else we've seen (except for Marriott, Bangkok that cost 4 times as much). Sunset Cove has a small lounge area under a bamboo roof that kept out the rain (when that came) and it turned disaster into a pleasure to be dry with a good book, lying on a huge pillow talking to the other guests. We met an English Honeymoon couple and the guy invited himself to go with the staff fishing for squid in the nighttime - a great laugh for everyone (including us who was watching the show). I would recommend this place to anyone, and think that this is resort that has that extra something that makes it worth visiting again and also choose ahead of other resorts. NB You will have to try the green curry chicken - I have to admit that we ate it every night because it was the best green curry - ever!
