“Great little resort, amazing beach”
Reviewed July 4, 2011

We stayed here for four nights in June and got an OK walk in rate of THB 1600 per night for a garden villa. We looked at quite a few on Haad Salad beach and for he price, decided it was the best one. A very good choice overall.

Salad Beach Resort has two small blocks and about 20 or so bungalows in lovely tropical gardens. All extremely well kitted out, comfortable, good aircon and very clean. Bedding and towels are changed every day. We stayed in a garden view bungalow, which I think is the best value, as they are quite a bit cheaper than the ones by the pool and the most expensive beach front ones, which all seem pretty much the same anyway. All bungalows have a nice terrace, which is pretty private due to all the plants and trees in the garden.
The staff are really nice, as is the food. There is a nice pool although it can get quite hot there, as there isnt much sea breeze.

Salad Beach itself is beautiful. Just the right balance between quiet and enough to keep ypu occupied for a few days. Extremely clean and lovely clean water. Quite a few restaurants. All the ones we tried were nice.

Tip. If you like pizza, go to Chocolum (sp?) on Thurs or Sun for proper Italian pizza at Cucina Italia. Excellent!

Room Tip: Garden view bungalows are the best value

Our room was comfortable and clean, we stayed inghr main building which was fune. Our tv stopped working but the staff swapped it for another one without and fuss or bother. Breakfast was buffet style and plentiful, good food and lots of choice, the staff make pancakes and eggs as you like them. The beach here is beautiful and there are a few other restaurants and resorts within a short walk so there I'd variety too. Pool is huge and very well kept, they need to invest in a few more sun umbrellas though.

We originally booked 3 nights around here so we could go to the full moon party, we booked an extra night as we liked it so much. You can have Thai massages for 250 baht plus other treatments. You get free wifi, good restaurants on the beach and excellent service.

If going to full moon, you can book your taxi through the hotels taxis for 400 baht and they make sure you get to and from the party safely (30 min drive) and will even look for you to make sure you get home. A normal taxi is atleast 600 to get from the party back home as they rip you off, so a brilliant service!

Having spoken to friends and other travellers, this is by far the best hotel on the island, our room cost 1495 baht per night which is just over £30, but worth every penny! We were so tempted to stay longer and delay heading to Phuket/Phi Phi and Krabi!

We stayed in Haad Rin before but the beach just have different feeling as its so calm so relaxing nice garden make it very cozy. its a shame that there re not much to do at night so we have to hired a taxi to the center which really really expensive ridiculous!!!! food in resturarant are nice but abit expensive they set a lovely table on the beach for dinner anyway we love it there but really cant stay longer than 3 nights

Room Tip: food outside hotel is alot cheaper

I hate this kind of place : even before you’ve put your bag down at the reception, the two ladies with « we want your money ! » tattoed on their foreheads have informed you that you’ll have to pay in advance, that there’ll be a 500B deposit for the room key, that the courtesy minibus that picked you up at the port will actually cost you 150B, that if you dare touch any of the shampoo bottles in the bathroom it will be charged and when you leave you’ll have to be out of the room at 11am EXACTLY. Needless to say, internet and overseas calls will cost you a lot more than at the shop 20 meters down the road.

I came to hate the room a lot more : very small by Thailand Resorts standards, but then why is it so dark ? Oh that’s why : the two windows have been WALLED ! A grey brick wall staring at me 10cm outside each window. Then of course the fridge doesn’t work, the toilet tank doesn’t fill, you have to take the top off and fill it from the shower. The room has an old TV set, a small shaky cupboard with 4 poor plastic hangers. The light above the terrace is too weak to read your book, the only place where there’s enough light is on the left side of the bed (no light on the right side). The room being small, the air conditioning blows over your head all night. But it stops when you leave the room, so you always return to a hot room. The sink in the bathroom has no light and no hot water, so you shave with cold water and radar. The tap is of the kind that gives you half a liter of water then shuts off, like in the toilets in a train station. No plug for the sink, no way you can rinse your swimsuit.

Breakfast is a non-event, restaurant staff is unprofessional, they bring you starter and main course all at the same time. The swimming pool is quite small.

How much does this complete disaster cost ? Well it’s a whopping 4,300B per night (105€) for a « Pool View bungalow », reduced to 3,225B (79€) for 4 nights reservation. A lot more than the genuine 5 stars Chatrium in Bangkok, a lot more than the superb Montra in Ko Tao and a lot , lot more than the friendly and tasteful Hacienda and B1 Villa in Bohput. I left after 3 nights, the brick walls were too depressing, so I actually did pay 105€ per night.

If the price had only be half of this it would just only be a bad hotel never to return to, but at 105€ a night it’s a complete rip off.

the location of the hotel is right on the beach and has a wonderful pool ( the beach is not great for swimming as on an ocean shlef so very shallow unitl far out). The staff are so helpful and attentive everything is priced reasonably and when you get bored of the restaurant on the beach you can walk up the beach to the other little bars and eateries

the location is great and only a short taxi away from either pier, it was fabulous. We initally booked for 3 days and ended up staying for 9 as we couldnt bring ourselves to leave. The food was fantastic to pancakes for breakfast to the amazing seafood BBQ's at night

the rooms were beautiful and the attention to detail impressive very clean and comfortable

I booked this place for a week with my 3 daughters. The hotel is in a brilliant location but as it was raining on all but one day there was very little to do. The snorkeling off the beach was awful..very few fish and what small amount of coral was there was dead or dying. Ko Phangan is at most a place to see for 3 days max. We had a day at Koh Tao which was fun and the snorkeling there was better but still poor compared to any I have done in Australia. The hotel should trim back some of the plants to make the paths more accessible as these were slippery and full of mossies.
