Grab a beer or a bucket and hop on the first scooter bike you see, people are so friendly and no stress there : )

“Full Moon”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Arrived at 10:30ish and left at 8 - got to see the sunrise which was a good way to finish the night even though many bars continue well into the day.
Bought a bucket on the street to save some money but be careful to check the seals all night - even the people selling them admit that they dont know if the bottles are ok.
First site walking on the beach was of a girl so drunk she was taking a dump in the sand, we were so shocked we couldnt help but laugh! very pleased we had decided to wear shoes!
Spent a few hours at the main stages (which were very busy) but found that later on, more laughs could be had further down the beach.
A water slide had opened up later in the night, starting at the top of a bar and flying out onto a stack of mattress' on the beach. Even through the pain of landing wrong, it is still a fab idea to go again!
The mass of bodies passed out on the beach isn't great to see, many people use the party to go past the limits. in the taxi home, some where complaining of the thousands of baht they had had stolen while they took a nap but hey what do you expect!
As it gets lighter you finally see the mass of rubbish that has built up over the night - people lying in stacks of bottles, flip-flops, buckets and straws. my god the straws! i have never seen so many! The rubbish covers practically the whole beach!
Apparently its not the best idea to have stay in the area during full moon as many bungalows get broken into but we stayed in Thong Sala which is only 100baht in a taxi away.

A very good party if youre relaxed enough to enjoy it but watch your drinks, money and wear little and comfy clothes (as everything gets sandy and damp!)

“Must have been a beautiful place...”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Once upon a time, Hat Rin must have been stunning. Now, it just caters to the foreigners (mostly Australians and Germans) for the Full Moon parties. The beach is something of an ecological disaster with broken glass, plastic straws and trash everywhere.

While we had a good time for NYE 2013, we would never go back there.

“My last full moon party I'm afraid!”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

I attended 5 full moon parties in 1999 in my backpacking days & they were superb. On my return to Ko Phangan on honeymoon, it seemed like a must visit.
Arrived about 10 pm to a scene of pure carnage! The beach was packed with mainly youngster hell bent on getting totally smashed. The chilled out hippy vibe has gone, along with the laughing & fun. Most people looked like zombies, incapable of standing up in a lot of cases. Broken glass everywhere & the odd fight thrown in for good measure.
We had a few drinks & a good look around before leaving at 2 am with a sense of relief. Maybe I'm getting old??
