“Family make quick getaway!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2009

After enduring one painful and bumpy ride to the hotel (after a terrible ferry ride over here with a toddler) we had booked a superior cottage for 3 nights. Food at the stone restuarant was ok that night (a bit blowy and cold however). That night we had entertainment on but we have a toddler so stayed with him in our cottage so he could go to sleep. He may have slept but me and my husband didnt as we were kept awake for ages with this singing!!!

The next day we were not sure what to do so we went to the beach but the beach was unsuitable for our toddler as the water was very dangerous.

We checked out the swimming pools but they are the neverending ones with big drops at the end of them so thought they were unsuitable for him to go into plus they did not have any for small children. Our cottage was ona very steep slope so our toddler could not walk around plus there seemed to be huge drops around.

After spending our first day here with nothing to do we had dinner again which was nothing special.

Again we went to bed and that night was a full moon party which we did not know about so again we went without sleep for most of the night. We made a call to Bangkok and was advised not to go onto the beach cause of the people who take drugs and it is common for there to be needles on the beaches. Great so we had nothing to do so we decided to exit after 2 nights. We were recomended this by a travel company who book holidays in Thailand and in our brief we told them we had a toddler but this was not at all ideal for a family with small children.

I was a bit nervous going to Panviman because I had read some bad reviews with people getting food sickness and complaining about the staff. Fortunately we did not have any of these problems. We stayed in a Family cottage over the new year and I thought it was a great location. The beach is paradise, I know it doesnt belong to the hotel specifically but I thought it was great and our kids spent lots of time in the waves. The hotel has a nice pool with a fantastic view. I found the staff always tried their best, a lot of them were young trainees and they were not that good but they always smiled and tried their best. The family cottage itself was nice and big with a tv and dvd in the bedroom which was good for keeping the kids entertained. We spent new years eve on the beach, not at the hotel event, and it was magic, lots of people having a good time and letting off thai peace kites and fireworks, I think it would be hard to ever have another one quite like that.

Whoever reviewed this less than 4 star overall must have been born with a silver spoon in their mouth. My girlfriend and I visited here after spending 4 nights in Haad Rin further South for the Full Moon Party. It was the perfect place to get away from everything and enjoy the ultimate chillout!
Stayed in Spa Villa for first 2 nights which was huge but we didn’t make use of the outside Jacuzzi or the Sauna room. To be honest we preferred the superior rooms, more cosy, better views, much cheaper. Enjoyed the Thai massage treatment they had on offer and the food was always great. The only slight drawback was the entertainment. Strange singing which we found hilarious but it wasn’t intended to be.
In summation – would recommend to anyone – made for a spectacular hol!

Visited this hotel (not the vilas) the first week of October. Apperently, it is the start of one of the rain seasons in this area, but we had only one day of rain. Rest sunny. Maybe this explains why it was not full, guess 30% of the rooms were occupied. Total relaxation. Extremely friendly staff, clean spacious rooms. Not many diversity with regards to the food, but still OK and tasteful. Some other restaurants on the beach but again more of the same. Don't expect much entertainment, but that was not what we were looking for. Swimming pools perfect with again friendly staff and good service. Private beach small, but plenty of beach just across a undeep creek.

I was getting very concerned with the reviews I read prior to our holiday but we had a fantastic time. The resort is quite unique and would not be everyone's taste. Because it is on the side of a steep hill it would be quite challenging for some people to manage to get around, however there are golf buggies which we used a couple of times at night on the way back after a few beers. The deluxe rooms are stunning, after very heavy rain two nights there was a very small puddle in the bath room in the corner of the room but it did not bother us. We saw a snake, monitor lizard, very large beetle and other wildlife as you are in amongst the trees. The resort has been carefully designed to blend in with the surrounding area, again this was to our taste. The food quality and staff were good, the pool area was very nice and the grounds were very well maintained with beautiful plants. There are some very nice restaurants out on the beach, our favourite was at the far end near the santhaya resort. The beach at the Santhaya was not so nice, the hotel did look more luxurious than the panviman and was busier, but I did not regret my choice of staying at the panviman. My main worry was the weather at the time of year, which was the last week of October and first week of November but apart from breakfast on the first day and the last day we had no rain except at night. The first week we were there only five rooms were taken, which only increased to about 10 in the second week so there was hardly anyone there. If you dont like your own company this may not be the place for you, but we loved it.

  • Liked — It was like a tree house with fantastic views
  • Disliked — steep steps to the room

We booked this resort because we wanted to come to Koh Phangan for a full moon party - but didn't want to stay in town with all the noise.
Panviman had a great breakfast with amazing views from the resturant. The pool was relaxing and staff were friendly.

Strangely in each room the bathroom had a large glass window that was covered by a blind that you could see through, so if there was someone in your room they could see what you were up to!

The only problem we had was with slow delivery of food from the hotel resturant at the beach.

From the beach next to the hotel we were able to book a boat into the full moon party that took about 20 - 30 mins. Coming home was easy as there were plenty of boats to take us back to the hotel.

The small village had a great bob marley hotel that did good cocktails.

Would definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at panviman numerous times over the years and have always longed to return. It was a special place with a special vibe and worth gritting your teeth through the bumpy roads to get there because you knew what was at the other end. (The speed boat option costing almost £200 return for 2!) Rooms were basic but if you requested the specific block we always stayed in, the staff always did what they could to oblige. As we were leaving in february 2003 the grounds that used to be used by the staff to air laundry was starting to be prepared for a new swimming pool and we had mixed feelings but part of me knew the place would never be quite the same again. On our return this year we were told that the same room we had had on numerous occasions had been refurbed and now cost more than 3 times what we used to pay as "they were 4 star now" so we had to settle for a pool view room at more than twice what we used to pay. To top that the gorgeous chilled out pan noi bay had turned into a building site and luxury resorts were being assembled along with beach clubs and all that goes with them. With all this going on the fact is it was nice to be able to use the new pool on occasion rather than tackle the schlep to the not so special beaches as before but the majority of changes that have been made there were cosmetic and the truth is that the levels of service had not improved although part of its charm was its 'rough round the edges' version of 'service'. but when you're paying over £100 a night you simply expect more and I'm afraid our visits to panviman resort and ton pan noi are very sadly over..
