Our stay at the Panviman was not a good one nor was it a stay that we shall ever repeat.

It did not start off well. This (though not the Panvimans direct fault they will have a leading hand in this charade abit further on)The Tour representative who met us at Koh Samui Airport did not have a word of English (though I speak some Thai and very understandable Thai as well I may add after many many years in Thailand) and refused to listen to my Thai. Our stay was for 5 days at the resort and she seemed very perplexed that out air ticket had us leaving Samui on 21 August. I explained to her that after Koh Phangan we are transfering back to Samui and staying on the island for a few weeks. Well this seemed to make her angry (still can't work out why) and she gave us a note with a guys name 'Mr Big' and phone number on it to contact for any problems. Our private transfer came and picked us up and took us to the ferry...the wrong ferry as it turned out. The CORRECT ferry was to take us to Tongsala Wharf for pick up by the Panviman transfer, instead we were taken to the other ferry that took us to near Haad Rin. We thought it all very strange when we were told we had to pay for the ferry when we had paid for 'Speed Boat Transfer ' straight to the hotel at $100USD each! We thought this was some new arrangement. It wasn't.

When we got to Haad Rin we called the Panviman and said " we we are at Haad Rin Wharf were is our transfer?" . (I have to add here that we were coming over as guests who had paid for a Manager at the Panviman: "You are not expected today...we do not pick from Haad Rin you make to make your own way to the resort or Tongsala". This was not the case, we were expected, fully booked, fully pre-paid for etc. It became evdient that no help was forthcoming from the Panviman in anyway shape or form.

We bit the bullet and hired a guy to drive us to the resort for a staggering 1,500baht. We had no choice as a storm was coming anyway.

Upon arrival at the Panviman....we spot our names on the welcome board as honoured guests..so much for them not knowing we were coming! It all went downhill from there on in.

The hotel Manager was adamant on arrival that we were entitled to no help from her whatsoever...but strangely she demanded the coupon for the transfer which we did not have as it was handed to the representative at Koh Samui Airport. Even if we had the transfer ticket she was not going to get it because they had not offered any transfer in lieu of the error but they were quite keen to pocket the USD for the speed boat transfer that did not occur anyway...DESPITE THE ERROR.

Under no circumstances could she be cohersed to do a simple human kindness to ring this Mr Big (Destination Asia Representative..on a local number!) to explain the mix up..in better Thai than ours.

We are signed in and shown to the room. It has lovely views but I have paid for 3 star rooms in better condition that this. Cracks in the bathroom surrounds, front doors that are unaligned made for a Deluxe cottage infested each night with mosquitoes. (Photos attached). I just loved how the full on view of the toilet was to be had from the bed!

Food at the Pool side restaurant was poor at best. Ever ordered a Yellow Curry and Thailand and been served one made from Keens Mustard Poweder? But the final touch was the Transvetite serving us. He/she needed a shave! Not the best face of a resort I should have to think and very surly to boot.

The beach is TINY. Other reviewers have mentioned this. Handful of chairs and a deck chair guy that was paranoid about the myriad of details one must fill out to gain a towel (Name, Room number, print name, sign name, time taken and returned country etc etc) everyday..day in and out.

We did find that a walk along the beach and there are some very good restaurants outside the resort. Star Hut is to be commended.

Eventually Mr Big called and apologised for the confusion. (We later found out he knew of the mix up and did nothing at the time it still could have been rectified.) We also found out that the Panviman knew we had paid for the Speed Boat transfer (which we saw other people using) and decided to try and pocket the money on the mistake anyway.

The only good thing about this resort was the views. Be warned, you have to be fit to get around the almost 45 degree incline hills inside the resort and all of the stairs as the resort is built into a cliffside. It does also strike us that the resort has seen better days. Wooden rampways and paths that were made for guests comfort of getting around the resort are overgrown, falling down and rotten.

On our return we did get a private car transfer from the Panviman but were still chucked on a ferry (normal about 150 baht) = approx $5USD per person. Still no sign of what we paid for.

All in all, not a place we want to remember with any fondness.

The deluxe cottages are gorgeous, great size, with lovely sea views, bath with huge window overlooking the sea. Fantastic pools again with amazing views of the bay. Dinner at night at the beach restaurant was mediocre, with terrible entertainment ( 2 singers), it would have been better without any entertainment. But along the beach there is a great outdoor restaurant that serves great food and cocktails at a great price. My recomendation would be stay at the hotel and use the facilitys in the day, but eat and drink out at night. Lovely spa area, beatiful beach. Would stay here again if ever we go back to ko phangan. Dont worry about being located in a cottage at the top of the hill as they always had a golf buggy to hand to pick you up or drop you off.

We stayed in a deluxe cottage with sweeping views of the sea! Knowing it was our honeymoon, the staff decorated our bed with flowers and prepared a heart shaped cake with "happy honeymoon" written on it. Great attention to detail! My husband and I enjoyed eating lunch on the pool deck and swimming in the amazing infinity pool! Don't miss out on the traditional Thai massage that they offer- book it around sunset, the massage is given on a deck overlooking the sea that provides for the most relaxing and visually stunning experience. They also have a restaurant by the beach- if you choose to eat here, get a table with a view of the "bridge" (or wooden log as previously described) where people cross over to the main beach at night in search of a little night life.- watching people attempt to cross this bridge is priceless, especially when returning from a night of partying! We really enjoyed our stay here- it was definitely a highlight for us!

After travelling to Haad Rin for the Full Moon party and getting disgusting rooms in the Baan Talay we immediately started looking for alternative accommodation. As everywhere in Haad Rin was full at this stage we were forced to stay on another location on Ko Phangan. I couldn't recommend this hotel more - the rooms are to a very high standard - exactly as you see on the website. The pool area is lovely and very quiet - as the hotel has a limited number of rooms there were never more than 3 or 4 other people at the pool. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. We never ate in the restaurant so I cannot comment on the food. The beach is a 2 minute walk from the hotel and there are a limited number of bars/restaurants within close proximity. One bar I would highly recommend for a chilled out drink is Pirates Bar (is signposted on the beach). The nightlife is limited, however Haad Rin is very accessible - is approx 30 mins away in a taxi which are very easy to get from outside the hotel and cost about £3 pp. If you're going to ko phangan for the full moon party and don't want to be in the thick of it every night I would strongly recommend staying here as it is no more expensive than Haad Rin and pure luxury!

We did not mind the bumpy ride up the mountain to get to this resort, after reading the reviews I thought everything people said was very accurate. I was a little disappointed that the hotel refused to collect us in one of their 2 vehicles, when I tried to set it up 6hrs in advance.....it was no bother to get a taxi which cost $25

The part missing from other reviews is the security aspect. We had clothes and a mobile phone stolen from the room and when we reported it to the manager she told us that this happens during full moon party!!! Apparently many people do not notice until the next morning and blame the theft on party goers at a beach some 10km away! Since we reported the theft at lunch time, I found this excuse to be a very poor one not to mention that they were clearly aware of the problem! Both of us had selected clothes for the evening and placed them at the top of our cases, hence why we noticed so suddenly upon returning. We had gone to the pool at 10am and returned at just midday, and since the room had been cleaned during that time one can only point the finger in one direction! The manager asked why we did not put our things in the safe, to which I replied that the safe was not big enough for 2 suitcases!!!

The hotel rooms also have an inadequate patio door wooden latch-lock that when you try to push the doors apart the lock simply opens! Although it would have been difficult to access the patio without being seen during the day, following this event I used a belt to secure the doors shut!

The overall quality of the hotel was good and service was exceptional from the wait staff.
