This place is a gem. The pizza is great. I (an American) and my girlfriend (an Aussie) have eaten here three times in the week we've been on Koh Phangan. The crust is excellent, the sauce is very good. I had a pepperoni and sausage the first time, pepperoni and gorgonzola the second. My girlfriend had the Rustini (vegetarian) plus olives and mushrooms both times. The pasta is really great. I had carbonara and she had gorgonzola with mushrooms, spinach and cream; hers was better than mine. The staff are quiet and sweet, and the house white wine is very good. Great value for money.

Casa Italiana has great pizzas. There are also lovely pasta dishes. We received a very warm welcome from the staff especially from Plao the owner who looked after us very well for our stay in Thong Sala.

I have never had a more unpleasant experience in a restaurant in Thailand. The place was empty and for very good reason. The owners are jaded, uninterested and rude and the menu expensive and poorly cooked. Want to use the Internet, or plug in a mobile phone? That will cost you an additional five euros, roughly the cost of my monthly electricity bill for a 3-bedroom home in Thailand. Question the practice and merely expect to receive abuse.

There are no excuses or reasons for restaurants like this to exist, or for owners who clearly hate tourists to be running one. Fortunately Casa Italiana will likely be the primary victim of its attitude. There are plenty of fantastic eateries on the island and this is not one of them.

Just had a coffee there. Yes, a nice cup of Illy-coffee. Fine. I know it has to be imported, but 95Baht is just way too expensive!!!. There are many other options nearby to drink a good cup of freshly brewed coffee for a normal price, (45 to 70baht). Try, for example, the terrific Nira's Bakery, just around the corner.
