First of all this hostel is no longer yans. He has moved on and the sign outside says Maddys hostel, very confusing trying to find the place and frustrating as we had heard great things about yan. It is now owned by a Thai family who barely speak any English and use the communal areas as their own personal living/dining room .
We discovered talking to other guests that we had paid almost double what others had for the same nights. The staff were rude and unfriendly and would not offer us any discount.
Also some girls we met had booked an 8 bed dorm to be told that doesn't exist so they had to stay in the 20 bed dorm.
The hostel is a complete rip off. You physically could not fit any more beds in there if you tried, there is not enough space for peoples bags on the floor. the mattress was like sleeping on concrete and you sleep about 3 inches away from other people on a wooden slate. There is only 1 toilet and 2 showers for 20 people plus the staff used them as well.
The staff turned off the air con at every opportunity leaving the room like a sauna.
this is the worst hostel I have stayed in the whole of southeast Asia. You can find somewhere much better for a lot less money.
