It was well priced, in a good location, safe, and clean. The staff were fun, friendly, and helpful. The owner was an overall good guy. This is the ideal place to stay for backpackers on Koh Phangan. I highly recommend staying here.

Baan Tai is by far the best place to stay in Koh Phangan.

Perfect location near the pier, clean comfortable rooms which are truly excellent value for money, Friendly staff who are more then happy to advise you on anything you need to know about Koh Phangan, the manager Scotty - Canadas finest is a laid back fun guy to be around and is very knowledgeable about Koh Phangan and the other surrounding islands. He has worked as a dive instructor in neighbouring Koh Tao and has many interesting stories to tell.

As a long time resident of Thailand I always stay here when visiting Koh Phangan and always recommend Baan Tai to anyone planning to go there..

Keep up the good work and high standards Baan Tai!!

The location of this place has just moved down the road a little. However, the place is alot nicer. Real nice bathrooms, comfy rooms and a pretty amazing view if you manage to get a room on the top floor. Rooms have AC as well. I've paid 3 times the amount I did in this place on other islands and haven't been half as impressed.

Within a five minute walking distance, is an amazing seafood place, bike rentals, 7/11, tour booking, laundry. 10 minutes in a taxi will either get you to thongsala or Haad rin (full moon party). Half moon is even closer. The beach round the corner is pretty nice too.

The guy who runs the place is a legend - you will have a good time here. He's got some pretty awesome good plans for the place - just disappointed we came to early to see them all in place.

To sum up: if you want a good place to stay for an amazing price. Book here.

A snoot is what my friends call me and when they booked this hostel I obviously had my doubts! But surprisingly for them I didn't complain even once! It was a basic room no doubt, but at that price I wasn't really expecting a presidential suite!! with 5 of us in one room it was delightfully comfortable, clean and located quite centrally. It didn't have a communal hang out room though ( I have to find faults!) so our recourse to teas and coffees and nibbles was an extremely cute and charming Restraunt next door. But the icing on the cake was Scott, the man who singlehandedly runs the whole show. He was very helpful, friendly and you can count on him to point u in the right direction for all all ur whims and cravings be it alcohol, diving, party venues and if u r lucky enough he provides first aid if u are not so lucky to be a victim of a bike accident. ... Which we were! :) .in short the hostel passed the snoot test with flying colours!

Baan Tai’s rave reviews on Trip Advisor convinced me. My only concern was that my diva-esque friends would find it too basic. How comfortable could it possibly be at that price? You’d be surprised.
We had a family room to ourselves: cozy beds, effective air conditioning, fast WiFi. (Also two mirrors… Always useful with a gang of girls. Though the rooms could do with more hooks or a cupboard to hang clothes and towels. Given how many clothes and shoes we had, it looked like a traveling circus by day 3!) However, Ae, who does the cleaning, is charming, and she sorted our room out whenever we asked.
Thanks to Scott, with his maps, Lonely Planets and party flyers, we quickly felt at home in Phangan. We spent our days exploring the addictive island, and eventually extended our stay. Unfortunately for him, “Let’s Ask Scott,” became our solution to everything. Especially after a friend and I fell off our bike and bled dramatically, en route to Koh Ma beach. He was passing by, and ended up playing guardian angel, organizing a cab to bring us back to Baan Tai, and efficiently bandaging me up!
The location’s convenient. We went scuba diving with the guys next door. For days when you need retail therapy, the boutiques at Thong Sala are a fifteen minute walk away. There’s a stacked alcohol shop, 7/11 and laundry lady just down the road. The girls even found a place to get their hair blow-dried!
The décor is necessarily basic, since they’re constantly cleaning up after the Full, Half and Black Moon parties, but soothing. Parties here are a great way to meet people, and Scott’s very relaxed, allowing guests to unleash their inner hooligans with paint brushes. Between the body painting and beer pong, a stream of fun people from goodness knows where joined our pre-Half Moon party – so we finally headed out for the festival as a big gang. Good times!
We’ll be back. (Without the bikes!)

This was a great place to stay for the full moon party, stayed here with 3 other friends. Scott was a load of help in telling us where to go for the run up to full moon, and even set up beer pong for us on the night of full moon. Best hostel we stayed in during our month in thailand!
