“The staff beat us up with sticks until we bled”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with 3 persons. When we checked in we only had towels in one of the tow rooms but they were enough to cover the group so we did not mention it. By the time we checked out the staff accused us of stealing the towels we never received. We were supposed to pay €40 for this, which we of course didn't want.

This eventually resulted in them gathering a group of around 20 people and hitting us towards the ground using their hands, sticks and stones. All of us were bleeding and one of us managed to escape and call the tourist police. They were obviously friends with the hotel as they were laughing about the situation and made us pay the €40.

So, NO, never stay at this hotel.

We visited Koh Phangan for our second trip to the FMP over New Years. Last time we were too far from Haad Rin, so wanted something closer to the action, but not so loud that you couldn't sleep, night or day.

Rin Beach had a great location, near the pier where most arrive on the island, and a beautiful view of the sunset. Lots of shops, bars and restaurants on your door step. Far enough from sunrise beach to get a few peaceful hours of sleep between partying, yet still a relatively short walk to the action.

My favourite part of the place was Wan and Joe, the two ever present barmen. They were always so freindly, knew (almost) all seven of us by name, and were willing to let us play our own music. They really felt like our mates by the end of the week and a half there.

In terms of room selection, i would definitely agree that the seaside rooms were worth the extra 1,000THB as they were a lot more comfortable than the other rooms i visited and the sound of the waves lapping underneath the bungalow was priceless. Also agree that some of the cheaper bungalows are hit and miss. Some right near the pool are really nice, whereas some higher up the hill weren't great.

All in all a great stay. would definitely recommend Rin Beach and stay there again if i make another FMP!

Room Tip: Seaside bungalow is definitely your best bet

After happening across this place for the first time in 2006 I have tried to book numerous and each time I ring the resort I am told they are full and get hung up on haha I always just rock up and have always been lucky to get a room (even in the Christmas period for a stay of only 4 nights).

The staff are hilarious and I have stayed the last couple of times in the overwater bungalows. I think they're much better value than the weird ship things, I had a look inside and although pretty nice, the overwater bungalows are the pick of the bunch! Sunset cocktails from the balcony and an open air shower (which can be closed off as well).

I have spent a total of months on Koh Phangan over the years and stayed at many places before I found this one. I would now stay nowhere else!

Room Tip: Nothing but the overwater bungalows!

After bailing out of the Salad Beach Resort because it was too far from the Full Moon Party on Haad Rin, (& had 2 rooms that were way too small), we scouted out this place at the last minute a couple of days before the party. We had a group of 6 and wound up in 3 different levels of rooms so I'll give some detail on each one.
The tiered bungalows on the beach are actually constructed on the rocky point and accessed by a concrete walkway with banana trees aside of it. Most of the trees were sporting bunches of green bananas which was cool. The upper level had a row of mid range rooms for 2000 baht per night. There was a large patio with an ocean view that was partially obstructed by the row of level 1 bungalows. inside, the bathroom was fairly neat although the tile color was horrendous. The bed was firm and clean & the wood floors were a nice touch. On the beach level, there were 2 white bungalows adjacent to the grassy area that separates the pool from the ocean. These were quite nice, with a very comfortable bed, lots of wood trim, and a decent bathroom. The front porch on these rooms was much smaller than the others, but again, nice design, color, and cleanliness.
At 3000 baht per night, bungalows 16 through 20 were right on the water, with the patio wrapped around the place and plenty of room for lounging or sharing a few drinks with friends. The main room has wood floors, wood trim and a separate bath and toilet that flows into a shower with shuttered doors that open from floor to ceiling, revealing the ocean below. Again, a very comfortable bed was in this room, & falling asleep while listening to the surf was peaceful & serene.
Lastly, "the boat" room, a 5000 baht per night suite was really not worth it, imo. While it featured a big jacuzzi tub & a spiral staircase that led up to a private sun deck, the views were no better than the 3000 baht rooms, in fact, the "boat" rooms were next to the Haad Rin pier, thus placing them in direct earshot of the occasional diesel motor noise, & a view of the concrete pier. The decor in the room was warm, with lots of wood and a compartmentalized design that was somewhat interesting, but the use of all that space was neither efficient or effective. There was definitely a lack of Feng Shui, if you're into that stuff. Top it off with a horrendous choice of exterior paint, the "boats" came in different pastel colors that totally destroyed any and all attempts at lending class to the oversized bungalows.
The pool is huge, & the bartenders were great. Quick service with your favorite beverage served ice cold & topped off with a big smile was the m.o. of these guys. They gladly played playlists from my ipod too. One thing though, there was a lot of glass being served poolside. It made me a little uneasy.
The biggest problem I had with Rin Beach Resort was the housekeeping service. Unless one specifically requests it and drops the key off at the front desk, your room will not be touched. In addition, My bed was roughly made, the ashtray left full, the water bottles not replaced, & the coffee service neglected as well. This happened daily. If you request maid service in the afternoon there is a very good chance you'll not get it. The maids leave around 4pm and 1 of my party was treated quite rudely by a maid when he put in a direct request for service one day in the late afternoon. She snipped at him, & raised her voice, refusing his request. This is a rare occurrence by a Thai, who are known for their respectful disposition toward others.
The Mgr, a lady named Noot, was mostly concerned with money more than satisfying her guests. She overcharged us for speedboat service to Koh Samui, knowing she had us over a barrell because we had to depart very early before the ferrys started their daily schedule. There is a dirty strip of beach that is sadly being ignored too. It would be a wonderful little spot if they'd just take out a rake, clean the place up, & put out some loungers. But they just don't give a s#&t.
Bottom line is yes, I would stay there again because the location of the bungalows was perfect, we were able to hit the parties with their blaring music, & walk home to a nice, quiet room with a great view. I can tolerate the poor maid service because it just isn't that important to me to have my room spotless, but you might not feel that way. The rates we paid were low season rates so adjust accordingly.

Room Tip: Rooms 17 through 20 are the best value for the money.

We booked the best room in the resort but got a guest house level room. No view, no cattle, old & dirty. We complained but management was very rude, not friendly & were not willing to assist. In addition, room was very dirty, did not look like the photos on the website or on the booking sites.. No hot water, water hardly running ( stopping all the time), ants in the shower, dirty linen, tv not working, marks & stains on the table, no beach and many more issues. Again, hotel management said we have to pay for another room and no rooms are available. Tithe said it is fully booked when actually is is almost empty! We are very unhappy and warn everybody - dont stay there!

Firstly, I don't know why this place doesn't have more of a presence on review websites - it's a pretty established business once you see it in the flesh. When we first booked, we got freaked out because there were no reviews and started thinking that the place may not exist; but rest assured, it does.

We've just left there, after an 11 night Christmas stay.

Accommodation was as described on the website - clean and fully functional. We stayed in the Deluxe Sea View... this is 1 row behind the water but you still have a perfect sea view, you just aren't completely at the water. The place was spotless (our main fear is a dirty place), the aircon/fridge/tv worked fine. Our friends stayed in the Superior Sea View, which is right at the sea and their place was amazing - a bit bigger, bigger balcony and was a great party bungalow!

Pool: Clean! What else is there to say? What impressed me most was the poolside toilets were also kept to a very high standard... overall this area was spotless and we enjoyed our swimming!

Staff: Thankfully, the only time we needed reception staff was check-in/check-out, so I can't comment on them, but check-in/out was painless and on check-out there was no issue in getting our 500 'key' deposit back (this is actually a deposit incase you destroy the apartment in paint, as they inspected our room before handing deposit back). The cleaning staff were efficient in cleaning our room, anytime we asked it to be cleaned, it was. The poolside staff were really nice - always smiling and just a general no-nonsense attitude.

The food at the pool-side was average and average priced... nothing bad or specially good to say there.

One thing to be aware of though: eventhough this place is in Had Rinn, it is NOT a crazy party place. You will not find drunk idiots falling about the place, so if you're a hard-core full mooner, maybe look at more backpacker orientated places. This suited us perfect though: we WERE full mooners, but wanted to be able to escape the crazyness. You're on the Sunset beach, about a 7 min walk from the Full Moon Party.

On a final positive note: The place is a stone throw away from Had Rinn pier, so no taxi's etc. - you walk everywhere! Just get off the ferry, walk about 50 metres up the road and you're at the entrance

Overall, we'd highly recommend this place. In fairness to the business, the pictures of the resort/accommodation are pretty much exactly as you see on their own website. If we're back there, we'll definately return

Room Tip: Superior Sea View: Right at the water Deluxe Sea View: 1 row behind the Superiors, but still a grea...
