Having stayed in Hadd yao before I kenw the beach was beautiful!
Firstly to get to the point, if you cant get one of the beach front rooms, DONT STAY HERE!
My partner and I stayed in room 102 on the beach, like most accommodation in hadd yao the room was a bit dated but clean and comfortable with a huge comfy bed and great air con.
Upon arrival we stood at reception for about 5 mins while the 3 women ignored us and carried on with their conversation then finally got the attention of one who was incredibly miserable (she later turned out to be a bit of a joker)
once settled in our room we stepped out onto the beach (literally 3 steps)
when it came to breakfast or any other time we wanted to eat in the resturant getting the attention of FONZY or his student MINI FONZY proved very difficult unless you were a group you young girls. The food was nice but nothing to rite home about.
During our stay we decided to get a cab into hadd rin and were told it would cost 700bt (bit pricey) and that we should ring the hotel for return as it would cost more in a cab from hadrinn by the greedy woman at recepton who conned you out of money any chance you gave her altho she was a joker and did it with a smile so some how you went along with it AFTER 30 MINS IN HAD RINN WE SWIFTLY WANTED TO COME BACK TO HADD YAO AND THE FIRST TAXI WE ASKED SAID 500BT SO SHE WAS CLEARLY AFTER MORE MONEY.
The service is the worst attraction in sandy bay as the 2 FONZYS were more intrested in turning the dance music up and posing on the beach with home made weights and fire torches in the eve, There were a few families here and the kids loved it by the look of it, but we were there to chill on the beach and for that reason i would only recommend sandy bay if you get the beach front room, if you dont youll have a view of the back wall of one of them or walk up tons of steps to a sea view. you could do either and stay in a different hotel in hadd yao and still enjoy the beautiful beach with clear calm waters and get service.
in over all a clean comfy stay in a beautiful part of the island but service was terrible and didnt feel very welcome but still managed to enjoy our 5 nights on the beach by buying cheaper booze from the shop at the top of the road and eating elsewhere.
Be prepared to serve your self and take extra money if you saty her!

1st trip back to sandy bay in 10 years and was truly impressed. Initially was only going to stay 4-5 nights but my love for the amazing setting that they provide kept me for a month. I loved the fact how it was so peaceful yet if one wanted to have a big night out it was only ever a beach or two away. I stayed in the 500 baht bunglow which was quite new and had a very comfortable bed. The food is the best on the beach and I rarely ate elsewhere. All the staff were very friendly and became my friends very quickly, this was one of the reasons for staying so long. Ask Mo to teach you how to squid fish....a new experience for all. If not this trip I will be going back to stay at sandy bay next winter as it quickly felt like a home away from home.

Picked Koh Phangan as a change for Koh Samui, because Samui is getting so crowdy.
Koh Phangan is a great and beautiful island.
We are experienced Thailand travellers and visit Thailand twice a year for already 20 years.
We never been treated so bad by Thai (also staff from Birma and laos)people, the staff is unbelievable rude to their guest, you almost get the feeling that they are playing a game to punish you every day.
Such a pitty because haad yaow is a nice beach.
Next time we will look for a place with Thai hospitality, which you won't find at Sandy Bay unfortunately.

I went there last year with my family and i have to agree that the staff can be very rude sometimes.
Luckely they were verry nice to us. But i think that was because they tried to milk as much money out of us as they could. I im sorry to say they did to.
And the service is really bad.
We got to know the staff well so they never treated us bad but i saw how bad they treated other quests.
It is truly bad because they have the best place, best bungalows on the whole beach.
And it is sad that they dont care about good service because if they did the resort would be fully booked all the time in high season.
We only hade one night of loud music but maybe we were lucky!!
