“wonderful experience”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Anantara Rasananda surpassed all our expectations. We wer already very excited before our trip due to all the great Tripadvisor reviews and the beautiful pictures on the website, but that was all nothing compared to the real experience.

Our room (lagoon villa) was located in the garden of the resort, surrounded by beautiful ponds with lots of Koi carps in it. The room and bathroom were in superb shape, and the little garden with plunge-pool and chill-out pavilion were great to relax. Apple TV was also a nice addition with a nice choice of free movies.

Hotel guests came from all different nations which was very pleasant not to be surrounded by Germany, American or Russians only. They were also of mixed age and there was a good mix of couples and families (not too much kids, though, so don't be afraid to be disturbed in any way. You won't be in this resort).

Food is excellent, the breakfast provides for everything that you might be longing for, and the bar menu for lunch and dinner is also perfect. Check out the Sea and Salt buffet if available. It's awesome.

The beach is beautiful with only four or five resorts being located at this bay with Anantara having the greatest share of the beach right in the middle of it. The sea was pretty rough at the end of January still, so do not expect a calm and turquoise sea between Novemeber and midth of February. There is a nice town very near to the resort in walking distance with a lot of options for dining and massage. Be sure to check out Luna lounge which is operated by a French guy who really cares about style and food. Better than sex is also a good dining option; check out the green fish curry from the specialties menu, it's delicious.

If you like dogs and cats the bay and village will be your paradise. There are a lot of dogs at the village and some nice ones at the beach, all of which are very charming and will welcome your company if you care of them. Otherwise they won't bother you, though. Animals are not allowed in the resort but the staff is very animal-friendly like all of the village people and if you take a shine to one of the dogs nobody will bother you when the dogs lie next to your sun-lounger at the beach. Look out for a black dog and a big white/yellow dog, they are the nicest ones!!

Overall it was one of the most relaxing weeks that we ever had and we will definitely come back again some time.

The Anantara turned out to be the highlight of our honeymoon. We were seeking the ultimate paradise spot for the last week of our honeymoon and this is exactly what we found. After busy Bangkok and a nice couple of days in Phuket we headed to the Anantara and it was just perfect. It is a good example that luxury does not need any marble and gold. The whole hotel has an amazing tropical atmosphere to it. If you are looking for a beach resort this is probably the ultimate spot for you. The hotel is sitting on a 400 yards beach stretch and all facilities (except the amazing Spa) are somewhat related to the beach.

Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Very, very classy! The best thing about this place is the service though. Nothing is too much trouble, the General Manager greets you every day during breakfast and the Head Chef was personally taking our order for our amazing private dinner on the beach. They set-up a white tent on the beach with torches and flowers, musicians stopped by to play for us while Chef was cooking a seafood barbecue for us. A real unique thing.

The whole atmosphere of the hotel is just incredible. It is probably the best example how much just the staff can make a difference to your overall stay. They are just so caring and engaged with you that you have the feeling they are more friends than waitresses. A lot of them seem to be from the island and they are sharing great stories and insights about their island life.

Anantara is a real couples hotel. Most guests were in our age (and most likely also honeymooners?!), therefore it is just very relaxing. If you are seeking a buzzing Phuket or Pataya this is not the place for you. Its not just the tranquility of the hotel but the whole beach is amazing. There are a couple of other bungalows and two other hotels on the beach but you just don't have the feeling of being in a touristy area. We loved to walk the beach in the late afternoon before dinner.

After many years coming back to Thailand and already anticipating that Samui would have changed a lot, we were looking for something unique and peaceful. We have never stayed at an Anantara hotel before but we wanted to give it a shot as we heard great things about the concept of this company. The praise themselves to deliver a unique experience: And this is exactly what you get. We took the hotel speedboat over. They have their own private lounge! They pick you up at any hotel or the airport in Samui, bring you over to the lounge and you already check-in. When hopping on the speedboat your vacation is starting. Scenic views until you arrive on Koh Phan-gan which is the small neighbor island of Samui. It was the most peaceful and relaxed stay my wife and I ever had. The rooms are modern but still give you the feeling to be in exotic Thailand. We loved our little plunge pool and our own little day shala. The hotel is really about the little touches: the flowers, the decoration, all the little beach treats, you have spirits for free in the room and every night you receive a different sweet something in your room. The whole hotel is very intimate: managers greet you upon arrival, all the staff know your name on day one. Everything in this hotel is about the beach. You have your breakfast directly on the beach, the pool bar is directly between pool and ocean and you just swim up to it to order some tropical drinks. All the grounds are tidy and the beautiful garden with koy carps greets you on your way to breakfast. The staff is all over you without being overwhelming. Dinner on the beach is great. Every night there is something else going on. Live music, fire dancers, beautiful Thai food: I have never had a better Surf & Turf anywhere else in the world. But the best part is the Spa. I have to admit that I am not a big Spa person but my wife was insisting on doing a couple massage. We ended up doing three! The Spa is like a small paradise directly build into the rocks of the climbing jungle. Very, very unique. I recommend to make a reservation as the Spa is apparently one of the most popular features of the hotel.
A nice add-on is the village behind the hotel. However, it is nice to go for a walk but we found the restaurants in the village to be a bit sketchy. If you are okay with street food this might be your thing but if you are looking for fantastic international and mind-blowing Thai food you definitely wanna stay in the hotel! If you are looking for a perfect beach break this is the place to be! We will be back...

Room Tip: Beach front villas are great for direct access to the beach. Lagoon pool villas are also spacious an...

We stayed for 8 days before going on to The Place on Koh Tao for the second part of our holiday (look at the reviews of The Place before booking anything). The Anantara lived up to its reviews - great room (we had an ocean suite (56) and if we returned, we would have the same again - totally private/ light / great sea view). The hotel is very professionally run, the staff are charming and the food good (although we usually went into the village to eat). I echo other reviews about the price difference between 'inside' and 'outside' the hotel. OK, you are not getting the same standard, but two examples - taxi to the ferry: hotel - £40, village £16, evening meal for two - hotel £60, village £12. But we enjoyed ourselves. One drawback (for us) was that the waves were usually too rough for the less confident swimmer - but if you just want to laze around sunbathing, it's fine.

Room Tip: Ocean suite 56 - away from the hub, great view.

Smekmånad med Kjell ;-) Arlanda to BKK was hell, skrikande små barn... argh, what to do???

Book Spa Honeymoon @ Anantaras snygga pärla!

I have been going to different places in Thailand for years, but this time we were really impressed by a beautiful resort and the great spa, even my husband liked it.

So what was bad? the location!!!
We was a little disappointed with the rough seas which according to the staff is unusual and as we were in the area a couple of years ago, also around sport lov I think it is true. They staff are great & very friendly and in the polite style we all love so much, wish we could get that in Stockholm. It is not cheap, but we was not surprised because the room was reeeeeeeally nice and we know that good hotels in Thailand are always more expensive than the outside. But we are to old for backpack...HAHAHA ;-) om det är inte dags att ta sig till fjällen LOL.

I really like the decoration and how the team is there and you don't need to tell them... not like Dubai. If you go on a honeymoon, great place...

Very clean and asquetic hotel with minor thai touch. Some things were very good, like complementary wiskey in the room every day, sport facilities and pool, also good words to chef, confectionery definetly was the best. But overall I was not sutisfied, because hotel is much sales oriented and try directly to sell in different extra services with high price, it was much disturbing. Also hotel do not take any responsibility of transfer from airport to hotel and vice versa.

Amazing :-)

This is a stunning resort. It is not cheap but the level of service is unsurpassed by anything I have ever experienced. Koh Phangan is one of the most stunning locations I have ever been to and this resort makes the most of it. We stayed at an Ocean Villa, everything is provided for you even Apple TV. The food is also excellent – even so they charge the same as in Europe. We were constantly amazed at the attention to detail wherever we went. The staff all seemed to enjoy their work and were very keen for us to enjoy our stay. This place is so relaxing that after only a couple of days we felt totally chilled and relaxed - my congrats to the management of this wonderful paradise resort.
