“Beautiful place”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

I found this place to be really nice. I wont exactly call it a resort since with that you expect a lot of service. This place is more like nice secluded place far from the crowded part of the island.
For the amount that I paid it was pretty awesome. Rooms were clean. Food was really good at the restaurant.
They gave us free ride to the full moon party since transportation is an issue specially at night.
You will get a lot of noise from the birds and the crickets during night and early morning. But I guess that comes with such a place and adds to the charm. View from the hotel is stunning with sea view.
I would recommend people to come to this place. Don't expect a five start resort since you are not paying a five star price.

I'm reading other reviews here and I'm seriously thinking..really? What hotel did we go too? My partner and I were really excited to come to this hotel on our travels as we saw it as our luxary part of our trip as the reviews were amazing. We got there, it has a lovely entrance and we did have a good first impression. We payed before seeing the room which became a fatal mistake. We got to our room and it was absolutely filthy. We had a pool house room. There were dark stains all up the walls, the mirror was covered with rust, a light was broken, there were cables hanging out of the wall and insects everywhere. Dust covered the services and ants crawled everywhere. We went back up to reception and asked for it to be cleaned. The housekeeper went in again and swept the floor and sprayed some room spray. That was it. We then went back up to reception and wanted to leave and have a refund. They said we had to pay for one night. My boyfriend argued we'd been there under an hour and it was ridiculous. They still insisted we pay the one night but we got refunded on our other 3 nights. We decided to stay the one night just out of principle really as we were forced to pay it. That night in the over priced restaurant the staff gave us cold looks and were rude to us. We then had a power cut which lasted about 2 hours and it was so dark we couldnt even see our food and the staff just carried on like normal holding candles around the area they were working in with no consideration for any guests. Back at the room that night when the electricity did come back on we saw the biggest cockroach I have ever seen in Asia. One of the few cockroaches I saw in the whole 6 weeks we were out there. He was chilling in our bathroom. My boyfriend had to catch him and throw him out. We also overheard two girls asking one of the staff to get a huge lizard out of their room. How they got in there I have no idea. In the morning we checked out as soon as we could and went back to the hotel we came from JB Hut. I was really upset about the whole thing as we were really looking forward to it. I just can't believe all the good reviews on here. We had a nightmare and have the pictures to prove it! Just dont bother going there unless you pay for the top room. We are both young travellers and are used to slumming it, but this was way below even our standards.

WE booked this hotel for Full Moon party as we are travelling and were told that places were filling up. Despite it being on the other side of the island to Had Riin beach it still only took about 30 mins in the taxi (which the staff will arrange for you, as well as providing UV paint!!). It was a great decision in the end as the views and atmosphere of this place are incredible.

The food served in the restaurant was also excellent, have to recommend the chicken with cashew nuts (i know its served everywhere but it is particularly good here!).

The staff were incredible. They arrange all of our transport for a very reasonable price and when we said we were looking for a place to get a massage they arranged for someone to come to the hotel. They were always extremely friendly.

Would 100% stay here again even if not just going for full moon.

Room Tip: Sea view villas looked amazing, slightly further away from all the trees containing noisy insects ea...

As long as you have transport (moped) you cant go wrong. Beautiful scenery, free dvds and huts were great with a lot of character. You can request no breakfast to cut costs.

Be wary of putting things on your room bill however, as I ordered filtered coffee a few times in the restaurant but was charged for ground coffee on each occasion. This was rectified when questioned, however I was made to feel that I was making it up!

My boyfriend and I stayed in a Mountain View room for four nights and found it good although our first impression of the place was not so good. We were originally going to check-in another mountain view room (lower level) and found it full of mouse droppings (including on the bed). The doors and windows frames were quirked and did not shut properly thus allowing mice to come in and out to poop everywhere. We ended up staying in a much nicer, larger and clean second-level room for the same price. The DVD player was really cheap and overheated in minutes. The pool was really nice. The restaurant served good food and the staff was very friendly. Note about snakes on the property: we saw three snakes on the property, one of which was about one meter long and bright green (good for pictures, bad for ophidiophobia) and were told about a cobra den near the cliffs?

We had visited Utopia for lunch on many occasion during previous visits to Koh Phangan. It has such a fantastic view! We chose Koh Phangan for our honeymoon as we love it so much but when we arrived, the house we had organised to stay in fell through. Utopia came to the rescue offering us a Seaview Jacuzzi Villa for our stay. We had a lovely time, had the pool to ourselves on many occasion (beautiful view during the day, lovely soft lights at light), enjoyed our special order banana-coffee smoothie each morning and roamed around the island on our motorbike.

The only down sides for some might be the location if you don't have transport. You are perched up on a hill away from everything but I'm sure you can arrange transfers through the wonderful staff. If you have your own bike, then the driveway is pretty steep (not a problem when you're experienced). The accomodation is in a great spot but is a little tired inside if you're fussy but again, wasn't a problem for us.

All in all, you'll have a great time.

Room Tip: I would go with a seaview for sure...

We stayed in one of the sea view bungalows, the place was fab. Luxuries such as cable tv and air con were a god send the day after the full moon party! Facilities such as transport to parties, scooter rental were great. Food was fantastic and staff were very helpful and friendly. Pool was nice but the pool side bar was never open, perhaps it was because the place was not full. Loved it :-)
