After traveling for a week and a half through Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Krabi, we wanted a peaceful place where we could hang out after all the running around and just look at the water and read. I knew I picked a good place the second we arrived and walked down the flower and palm-lined pathway to reception. Castaway has a happy, nice vibe about it. It was just what I hoped for. Our sea breeze bungalow was very clean and nice, so I never worried about bugs - even though we found a little gecko that ran out of the curtains when I opened them. It was cute, though. The place felt small and perfect for us. We used the massage place every day and it was wonderful to hear the ocean.

I recommend taking one of their kayaks (free) and exploring the shoreline and stopping off at little deserted beaches for a swim. I also recommend wandering up the beach and exploring the tiny bars and restaurants on the shore as well. We jumped in a tuk tuk and explored Old Town one day, which has a completely different feel. This might be a good place to rent a long tail boat. Boats weren't able to get close to Castaway because of rocks here and there.

Some things I wish I knew and may not be specific to Castaway, but maybe Ko Lanta: flies! Wow, so many flies. We shared our breakfast each morning in the outdoor restaurant with about 15 flies that were landing on our forks, backs, hands. Sitting directly in front of a fan on "high" did not seem to deter them. I did not like this and by the end of our week stay, we couldn't face the flies and skipped breakfast. The flies weren't as bad at night, but be careful trying to have dinner before the sun goes down. Also, we thought the tap water had a bit of an icky smell and especially noticed it in the bathroom. Small things, really.

Overall a wonderful little place and nice respite. We really recharged here and it felt like a true vacation. Plus, the staff seemed really nice and that made all the difference. Oh, and when we arrived we had towels shaped like swans and elephants!

Room Tip: I was worried about our bungalow directly in front of the bar, but it wasn't a problem at all. I...

Castaway allowed us to have the 'beach hut' experience in great style and comfort. We stayed in one of the Sea Breeze bungalows which was large, spotlessly clean and well presented. The restaurant is wonderful, the facilities great and the staff lovely but the best bit is the access to an open and un-crowded stretch of beach which is great for swimming and sunbathing. We loved this place and will be back for a much longer stay.

If you fancy a week or so of being a beach bum then you can do a whole lot worse than stay at Lanta Castaway. Stayed with my wife in one of their cheap garden bungalows and found the room to be great value, full of character and very relaxing! (Even with the wind sneaking between the bungalows wooden board walls!) the rooms were cleaned everyday - if you wanted - and fresh towels, including beach towels, provided on request.

The location (on the beach itself) is excellent, and though the sea is not a patch on Phuket or Phi Phi for swimming (a little too rocky and a very gentle slope i.e. no depth) it will suit families and sunbathers very well indeed. The hotel provides free sun loungers for all guests.

The on beach restaurant and bar are great, with happy hour a treat, and the food the best we ate in the near vicinity. There is free wifi for all guests.

The free transfer from Salidan pier (roughly 10 mins) was much appreciated, and all staff very helpful, polite and above all appeared very happy in their roles.

The one problem we had was loud music going on until the early hours on 1 or 2 nights. This however seems out of character for the area and was out of control of the hotel.

We would highly recommend a stay at Lanta Castaway if you're in the area, it's a great place! Just avoid the Sanctuary Restaurant next door, which was abysmal. The most expensive and worst meal we had in Thailand, by far!

This resort on beach, great value for money. Spotless, clean rooms, great beds, good breakfast included. Spend a little more and stay in this resort. For only 200 bhat more we had a fabulous room compared to previous resort, just down the beach. You can take yoga next door at sanctuary. Would recommend.
Loved it

I guess the location and size of the resort and the great staff really makes this place.
The place is not too big, located on the beach, and a staff not bigger than you get to know them all during a few days. It seems the staff were always smiling and joking.
The food in the restaurant was good, the service good. The beach bar makes mango shakes to kill for.
The free WiFi is fast and stable. The garden around the bungalows is well kept, and the rooms were kept clean.
The rooms contained air condition, a roof fan, minibar, free drinking water, safe and beach towels.
By the beach was also a massage parlour. I had a Thai massage almost every day of our stay.
In the reception area there is a dive shop offering dive courses and diving- and snorkelling trips. We joined a snorkelling trip to Ko Haa. Lots of fish to see, but almost no corals.

The sand on the beach is lovely and good to walk barefoot in. There are rocks or long-dead corals along the beach where small colourful fish feed and this makes for good snorkeling.
Just outside the resort there are restaurants, shops, chemist, ATM, bars and tuk-tuk taxis waiting for passengers. The trip to Saladan with more shops and restaurants will take you 15 minutes by tuk-tuk.

Some places, and especilly just outside our bungalow, there was an unpleasant odor of sewer gas. The resort do not have a swimming pool.
Our bathroom faced West and became very hot in the evening. There was a small open window up on the wall with mosquito net probably ment for ventilation.
I believe there should have been a electric fan ventilating hot and humid air out from the bathroom. The bathroom was also slightly worn.

Lanta Castaway is a quiet and easygoing place, we really enjoyed our week there.

Whilst I knew that the beach is not being too busy by Thailand standards it would be slightly more busy than we would ideally like I booked because of the reviews of this resort. It lived up to expectations on all levels.
The staff are great, the gardens kept so well, they can book all your needs for tours and even have no hassle hire scooters which we took advantage of.
The rooms have everything you need including mosquito coils and burner for when you sit out of an evening.
We spent some time at the resort but we also went out on the scooter and found some almost deserted beaches not too far away. Our favorite was at the end of the next beach down and had a really hippy feel about it. It is called Krits friendly bar. It has little elevated sun shacks as well as some deck chairs under home made canopy, in fact everything seemed to be home made out of driftwood. This place was certainly not luxury, the toilets very basic. We ate here three times with no problems and Krit makes extremely good cocktails. The coffee is rubbish and he does not have diet coke (so we took our own and paid corkage)
Do not all go at once as it would spoil it but it can be found here 7.561461,99.037584
