We visited Ko Lanta in low season and happened upon Asylum at the end of the beach. We didn't have many food and drink options since most places were closed, but we couldn't have asked for a better hangout for our four days on the island. We were just going to stop by for one beer on our first night, but ended up spending most of the night and part of every day thereafter at Asylum. Michael was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and more than willing to share his knowledge of Ko Lanta and his plans for Asylum. He is making some great changes to his space and has some pretty cool ideas to make Asylum an interesting place to hang out.
Everything we ordered was delicious - especially the mojito (with secret ingredient), mocha, muesli, and most importantly the SAUSAGE MIENG KUM! You HAVE to try it. So good. But we mostly enjoyed hanging out at the bar tables drinking happy hour beers. A very relaxing, chill place.
I really hope to be able to return to Asylum one day to see what Michael has done with the place. He was an awesome host and he really made our time on Ko Lanta more enjoyable. He even lent us some gear when he heard we were going kayaking. An all around nice guy.
