“Good location, great for families”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

We stayed 7 nights at the Anda Lanta resort, with a family of four (9 year-old and 5 year-old). We booked the family cottage (adjoining rooms) which I would thoroughly recommend. It's set back from the beach and therefore has more privacy.
We chose the resort for its location. It's at the bottom of the island, near the National Park, and therefore quiet. None of the dodgy tourist bars and restaurants. Instead, a few great beach shacks that offer barbecues. To get around the island and try other restaurants, we hired vespas from the hotel.
The accommodation was good. Not luxury but clean and well thought through. Reception staff were friendly but not very clued up on information and recommendations.
The food was OK. Nothing special. Breakfast was included. We only ate once at the hotel and it was OK but overpriced considering other options on the beach. We would recommend the Take It Easy bar, down the beach, which had great barbecues with fresh fish, cheap cocktails, incredibly friendly staff. Their tourist information is far better than what the Anda Lanta came up with.
I said the resort was great for families and that's true. It's both an upside and a downside. There were lots of children when we were there and the pool looked like a creche most days. Families tended to hog the sunbeds for the whole day because that was the best place to get shade. Not a big problem for us as we preferred the beach anyway.
The beach is rocky. Again, upside and downside there. Good for playing in rock pool but not good for little feet when getting into the water.

I'm not to sure how to rate Anda Lanta. We stayed for 6 nights. After the first night we changed rooms we were happier and glad we stayed, however we were disappointed. We had come directly from Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island which was outstanding (see my other review) and unfortunately Anda Lanta was not as nice (apart from the food) and cost more.

Positives:
1. The food. I love Thai food and the food at the resort was excellent. Fantastic Thai dishes, always fresh. Huge menu, good kids menu and nice to have hot breakfast cooked to order.
2. Sunsets. Absolutely beautiful views, especially walking a little bit further along the beach.
3. Room size and decor. We stayed in a beach front room. The room size was very large and the decor and furniture was very nice.
4. Family feel. We chose Anda Lanta Resort because of the family reviews as we were travelling with our 1 year old. The majority of guests seemed to stay with small children which was nice.
5. The pool. A nice pool with plenty of shade, good surroundings and view.
6. Massages. Very good and reasonably priced for a resort (400 baht for a 50 minute Thai massage).

Negatives
1. Many of the rooms have a very musty and damp smell. We inspected 4 rooms and only 1 was ok. I think its due to the tropical climate but the overpowering smell in some rooms is very bad. In our first room there was also wetness and decay in the ceiling in the bathroom. Thankfully in our second room that smell was not as strong. We came close to leaving the resort but decided to stay. The staff thoroughly cleaned our room each day which made it enough for us to bare.
2. The beach. Very disappointing. Looks good in photos but is extremely rocky underwater and difficult to swim in. Having come from Phi Phi (amazing beach) this was very disappointing. At Phi Phi we swam at the beach twice a day, here we only did 3 times in 6 days.
3. Price. In the end we paid more and received less in return when comparing it to the other places we stayed in Thailand.

Unfortunately for us the negatives outweighed the positives. With a 1 year old daughter we spent a lot of time in the rooms (which smelt) and the beach was disappointing.

I don't write this review lightly as I know that it has ramifications for the resort. We were just thankful that we stayed at two places in Thailand as the other resort of Phi Phi had a pristine beach. If you are after a great beach, I wouldn't recommend Anda Lanta (or other resorts on the same coast in Lanta) - make sure you do your research.

Room Tip: Ask for 106 if booking a beach front room, definitely avoid 103.

Place is nice and everything but I had very big problems when booking thru internet. Actually there are 2 websites for this hotel. At first web sites seem to be for different hotels but pictures of the place are same and the address too. I made reservation on the fraudulent one I guess and after few days that I didn't got booking confirmation I turned to the hotel and the person that said to be receptionist told me that they don't have any info's on by booking reference. In his e mail he said that maybe I booked on the other web site that does not belong to this hotel.
I mean they know that there is another web site and know what is happening and they are not doing nothing about. At the end it ended that I had to block my CC , I was lucky to see the scam very fast and don't get ripped off.
Be careful please.

We spent two weeks in this resort on our extended trip to Thailand. We traveled with one 2-year old, and one 8-months old child. The place was perfect for a family rest - a great pool with enough shade even during mid-day, wonderful beach beds in a shade along a quiet, long, white beach, massage beds and restaurant in short distance of where the kids can play safely, super friendly staff. It is secluded (more than you may expect even after reading this), so you may get bored of the same restaurant after a while, but it didn't bother us. Quiet, beautiful, exotic. In the evenings you can walk a few hundred meters along the empty beach, and watch the elephants take their evening bath. We stayed in a bungalow along the beach.

Anda Lanta Resort, on beautiful, secluded Klong Jark Beach (far down the southwestern side of the island), is a resort highly deserving of the accolades other travelers have stated;
the beach is never even close to being crowded (unlike parts of Klong Dao & Long Beach), & the rooms are beautiful, the amenities 1st-rate, everybody we talked to loved it!!!
while not cheap, the resort is a better value than some other highly rated places on Lanta;
the prices of food & beverages are reasonable considering 1)its a premium-type hotel far away from most of the island [&] 2) portions are adequate & everything is prepared freshly from top-quality ingredients, very tasty
the food was pretty good, not fantastic- but i'm a very harsh judge when it comes to food, especially Thai food since i live here- ( i would recommend driving to Kantiang Bay once or twice at least during your stay, for more varied & authentic options)
the pool, bar & restaurant area are all virtually on the beach; the pool is beautiful & we loved hanging out there, even though my friend & i didn't have children, and it seemed everybody else was families- but everybody was having such a great time, it didn't matter
Young childless couples or solo travelers may want to think twice, unless you really love having children around-
(i don't mind, i feel that children's laughter can help keep us young!!!)
in summary, i think that it is improbable to be anything but very pleased with this place-
great location on a secluded serene beach, beautiful grounds, nice, spacious rooms tasty food & beverages & impeccable service

Room Tip: they're all good, just depends on how close to the beach you want to be... prices vary- not che...

hi guys, we found Anda Lanta on our latest trip, its on the island of Koh Lanta.
This place is at the other end of the island from the main port.
Let me tell u this, it was a hidden gem, they have 4star bungalos on the beach, the beach side resturant was great, service great, drinks not bad prices for a resort,
The beach is very nice with rocky caves at each end, good for swiming etc.
Rooms are great with lovely decor throughout, free kayaks and snorkling gear are available anytime, we loved this place and will be back soon, ps get the beach front rooms, worth the extra money.

Room Tip: Beach front,

We stayed there in November 2011, for 9 nights. We booked 7 nights from Europe before leaving (email exchange with the hotel was fast and worked very well) then added 2 nights once in Thailand, as our plans changed a little bit (we were 3 weeks in total in Thailand).

November is still calm: hotel was not full. We immediately got upgraded upon arrival, from a "garden cottage" to a "beach front villa", worth almost twice as much. Pleasant surprise!

The service in the room (cleaning, ...) and around was perfect. Restaurant also. Food was good, but not exceptional. Price were fair. At least, the restaurant is a very nice solution when you don't want to go out. But probably not enough if you wish to live there for a complete week. There are various alternatives around (on the same beach, 1 or 2) or reachable by scooter or car (5-10 minutes). Minor hiccups at breakfast sometimes: the staff, especially when they are new and it's the beginning of the season can forget to bring you a knife, or a plate with the toast, etc.. A friendly reminder was always enough and we never felt this was a problem.

The location is great, as it is quite south on the island: Almost no traffic on the road, and the beach was not crowded at all (only 2-3 hotels on that beach). Water was nice, sand was soft. A few rocks on the beach, but nothing more. Lots of possible excursion around; boats can pick-you up on the beach.

Hotel offers some basic games, water sport equipment, ... for free.

Massages are a bit expensive (as usual when provided within the hotel), so we did no try as we always found the energy to go the the nearby villages to get our daily massage.

All in all, we were very happy. We usually don't go back to the same place when traveling, so we will probably end up in another part of Thailand if we go again, but if we would have to go back to the island of Koh Lanta, that would definitely be our choice again.

Room Tip: All the villas and bungalow are close to water, even if they don't have a view. The building wit...
