Owner description: Lanta Old Town is a small village on Ko Lanta's East Coast in Krabi Province. Many years ago, Ko Lanta's Old Town acted as the port and commercial center for the island and provided safe harbor for Arabic and Chinese trading vessels sailing between the larger ports of Phuket, Penang and Singapore. Today, Old Town is the district capital; it has a post office, police station, Buddhist temple, Chinese temple and the island's hospital as well as a long pier.

This town just didn't have anything to do. Just one road going through town but nothing was exceptional or different than Saladan where we were staying. Not disappointing because I didn't have any expectations but we just drove through, turned around, and promplty left.

We visited out of season so many shops and restaurants were closed. Worth the time to stop in - I am sure in season there is a great deal more going on - we loved being there when it was quiet on the island.

The most relaxing place of our month's stay in Thailand.
Be warned, there is not much to do here, but that didn't bother us. If you just want to chill out, read books, listen to music and rest, this a fabulous place. I recommend it to any Hollywood stars or anyone else who doesn't want to be found.
The Mango House accommodation is lovely. The deck faces the sea and you can watch the fishing boats come and go. Our room (suite 2) had air con, useful in the heat. The small kitchen was adequate and the bathroom good, with a warm shower.
The owner is helpful in dealing with any issues and giving advice on what to do. If you're here for more than a couple of days, hire motor bikes from Loy on the corner (200 baht / day) but check them for brakes and general condition. You can drive around the whole island in a morning, but you'll need them to get to the beaches on the west coast.
We hired a private fishing trip through Loy for 6,000 baht. It was a bit pricey, but for that we got over 4 hours of fishing with everything provided and it was one of the highlights of our trip.
There are a couple of mini-marts on the wild-west street, we avoided the one opposite because the owner was so mardy!
Restaurants - in low season we only found two open, hence the need for transport.

The hammocks - we loved them so much we bought two from the shop down the road.

Very nice owners, Ying and son Ong, Great Seafood Pad Thai and Cshew chicken. Eat on the water or on the street side.

Nice wooden houses with a few shops and restaurants buildt out in the wetlands.
