“don't do it”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

I stayed in one of the bamboo cabins in early October. It's cheap (300 Baht a night) but man, do not do this. The room was dirty and grimy, there was mold growing on the wall. The whole place smelled like urine (and from the way it sounded the toilets and sinks empty directly under the hut, so no surprise on why it smelled so bad). The mosquito net had some gross stains on it. Really, just avoid this place. The door lock was not comforting and it felt really unsafe and vulnerable. It was nice to wake up to the sound of the ocean but not worth how gross the room was.

I also needed to get some work done and needed the wifi and it only worked intermittently, and only at the restaurant. The woman I booked the room with seemed downright exasperated that I was trying to do business with her, which I found strange and rude. Other than that the staff was helpful. The bar next door (Why Not Bar) has a great band that plays at night until about 12am, mostly alt-rock covers. I liked that, and being close to the beach, but seriously, for 100 more baht you can stay somewhere SO MUCH NICER.

i went to this resort w/boyfriend last December as i wanted him to experience a sunset & night in Kantiang Bay; i have also partied w/friends i met who were staying there as i was playing the "Why Not Bar" (attached to the property) every Sat the 1st 8 months i lived on the island; first ate there 3 1/2yrs ago on my visit to Lanta prior to moving here;
the BEST thing about the place is its location, right in the middle of the beach on beautiful, idyllic Kantiang Bay; although it is a good value for Kantiang Bay (which tends to be a bit pricier than other areas on Lanta), the bungalows are shopworn & sorely in need of refurbishing & reinforcement, and not particularly clean & tidy, either...
as a local well-known to them, i didn't receive bad service as others have reported-
except at the restaurant, which should be avoided at all costs; if you want a place to gaze out at magical Kantiang Bay, i would suggest anywhere but this place, as the food is, frankly not very good at all, and the restaurant service (and wait for food) is so slow as to be nonexistant...

definitely worth checking out, however, is the evening scene at the attached Why Not Bar, where the famous Why Not Band holds court every night playing Western faves & rocking Thai stuff too, while the patrons lounge on pillows at low tables on a platform built out over the soft, white talcum-powderish sands of Kantiang- for sure worth a visit...

although possibly the best value for a "bargain" room in Kantiang, i would suggest shelling out a bit more for another place, unless you're 1)really on a budget [&] 2)not fussy or expecting much...
in short, the only thing saving this spot from a "poor" review is its great location & position as the most "budget" option at Kantiang Bay...

Room Tip: if the several rooms i've stayed in or visited w/friends are any indication, i'd say there w...

We (foolishly) booked one of the bungalows through a woman on koh phi phi who assured us they were wonderful. Terrible shock when we got there. The rain wasn't their fault, but we had to wade through water to get to our bungalow, which was dark, dingy, smelly and falling apart - it literally shook with every step you took!! Could see through the gaps in the floorboards where the lino didn't cover, and the walls were practically falling down. On the plus side, when we relocated to a room in the main building, this was fairly pleasant. The staff, however, weren't! Easily the most inhospitable we've experienced throughout Asia! The location is great for being right on the beach, but lacks much to do around and about without transport.

The room was nice and clean but the second night... We found a lot of ants in our bed...and also a cockroach. The beach is nice but the emplacement terrible... We can't even find fruits without rent a motorbike... Expensive for banana... There nothing around except a seven eleven... So we had to eat at the hotel restaurant... The most greasy food in thailand.... And the worst was the staff... Really not friendly... Not even a smile... I felt like if a was disturbing them in their house.... Never want to go back there...

The staff here are very relaxed. Don't expect them to run around after you like in the big hotels - but this is not a complaint. This is a family run business that goes at the pace of the island.

We really enjoyed staying here. We had a week to settle in and take it easy.

The food in he restaurant is cheap and tasty. I liked the fact that te same dishes came out different almost every time, so it was like a little surprise every lunchtime even though you ordered the same thing :)

The attached bar is a cool little hang out. The band is cute although we noticed by the end they play the exact same songs over and over again. No complaints, just thought it was a funny observation.

The rooms were tidy and clean. Big bathroom which is basic but workable.

You can get massages on site for cheap. Also scooter hire as well.

The beach is mostly deserted. Rocks are a bit annoying at low tide but high tide there are no problems. A highlight for us on our stay was an elephant had escaped from the next bay over. It swam around to our bay and proceeded to evade its owners, who were frantically trying to capture it, for 3 hours. Was amazing to see!

Thank you for making our stay in Koh Lanta relaxed and enjoyable.

After staying at the nearby Baan Lanta Spa resort I decided to view the rooms at KBVR. The very friendly family who own the establishment were kind helpful and with a/c bungalow rooms at half the price a bargain. Rooms were clean staff very happy and helpful and the beach was 20 meters from my front door

I stayed her in Early May taking advantage of their very popular three for two deal. I booked three nights but cleared out after the second. Previous reviews indicated that the place was poorly run and the staff rude and incompetent. Being from the UK this didn’t initially put me off and i liked look of the location.

As it turned out all the bad reviews didn’t do the place justice. It is far far worse than expected. Truly awful. Just arriving is enough to put a damper on your holiday. The reception area is dark dingy, filthy, and litter strewn. It was infested with feral -looking cats and their debris and there were bundles of old clothes lying around on on the ramshackle benches. These, I discovered , contained the staff as one of them stirred and shambled over to what passed for a check in desk. Check in procedure was brief, informal and cheerless. No registration forms or passport nonsense here just the handing over of cash. If you are ever on the run from Interpol this may be the place to stay though personally I would rather give myself up.

I had booked to stay in a beachfront bungalow and had been told by the agent it was the last one available. As it appears to be the only one I cant really fault their claim. The beach is fantastic, everything you expect and he view from the beachfront bungalow is undeniably the best in the bay. as it is the only point in the bay here you cannot see the beachfront bungalow, which is a concrete eyesore. The interior had a sort of fifties motel theme going on, the Bates Motel was the first one that sprang to mind. The bathroom had a worn stained bath and wc in a pipe emerging from the wall served as a shower. The air-conditioning unit was fairly new and seemed efficient and quiet. Behind the bungalows was what I took to be a squatter camp for refugees but turned ou to be their bamboo beach huts. Didn’t venture too close, best of luck if you are booking one of those.

Cant comment on the housekeeping services as there wasn’t any. Nobody went near the rooms while I was staying The reataurant was dire. Only had breakfast there once. Ordered a cheese omelette which arrived suspiciously promptly, possibly one they prepared earlier The cheese arrived five minutes later, a Kraft cheese slice slapped on the table still in its plastic wrapper. Loose a Michelin Star for that where I come from.

My visit was at the start of the low season. but Koh Lanta is a year round destination. It says so in the brochures so it must be true. All the tour shops were open and all the tours and excursions were operating daily, just not today, or tomorrow. After that, well, possibly.

Location is the key to this place, it is the only thing it has going for it but it is not something to be dismissed. It is a truly beautiful spot.
