“Lovely location, beautiful views, shame about cleanliness”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

The resort is located at a beautiful spot with great views and lovely atmosphere. The cabins look quaint and welcoming on the outside but inside the cleanliness was not the best. The wet room looked tired and unclean and so my girlfriend and I opted to shower and clean in our reef shoes - just to be safe!

During our stay they hosted about 2 parties which were loud and went on till the small hours of the morning so unlike us who were expecting a chilled out quiet stay this might be to your liking depending on your preference...

The location of Lanta Marine is a short hop to convenient stores for those emergency walks to get a few bottles of Chang beer and snacks. Plus you had a lovely choice of different restaurants to eat from on the beech so every night of eating out included a lovely walk on the beech followed by a great meal!

the amount of money we're paying for the room I would expect more, the staff is friendly and eager to help but attention to detail is lacking. Wifi only works in the lobby area and not in the rooms.

-shower curtain is actually a curtain... it was not big enough for the whole window. shower with the possbility of other people looking in is not good.
-shower hose is broken, water was shooting half way. this was fix the next day though.
-there was no hot water but this was fix when we notify them.
-there is no phone in the room, we had to trek up to the lobby to notify the problem.
-spiders were on the corner... attention to detail when cleaning is lacking.

Nineteen family members from Bangkok, Austria & Vermont met here for a wonderful 10 day 70th birthday celebration. We inhabited 8 bungalows, with some in each of the three price levels available. At the end we all felt very happy with the choice and felt it was the best choice we could have made. Pros were stunning views and excellent beach; excellent, reasonably priced food - the best of the 5 or 6 local restaurants we tried; very helpful and friendly staff - especially helpful with the gluten-free diet needed for one of our number. Cons: Paths to the high up bungalows not well maintained and difficult to climb; Plumbing problematic at times; Had to ask for room service each day if you wanted it - but they did do it well, if asked; Bungalows not as well maintained as one would expect for such an elegant location and basically beautiful bungalows; exorbitant price for beer - almost twice other local restaurants. If we headed down this way again, we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Loud music from multiple resorts was very annoying and made it difficult to sleep on Christmas and N...

The views of the bay are absolutely lovely, but this facility is not a relaxing place to stay. In fact, we were exhausted by the end of our stay. The rooms are very dirty, and staff does not clean unless repeatedly asked (and even then, inadequately) The mosquito netting is filthy and mattresses are of questionable cleanliness. Finally, there is very loud music at night, which makes it impossible to sleep at this facility. It should also be noted that those with mobility issues should be very careful if staying here. Very steep stone steps- actually quite dangerous, for all ages due to the lack of handrails.
On a positive note, we felt that the staff was very helpful and friendly with planning excursions and allowing use of the public areas (wifi/computer room, tv). There is no real lobby or comfortable central area here-- the couches near the entry office tend to be full of workers who are smoking on break or hanging out. If you are on a budget, then the price is right and the proximity to the beach is perfect. Bring your earplugs and extra soap, and you'll be all set for beach fun!

Room Tip: Do not stay in A4- it is directly above the DJ and bar; you will not sleep due to the booming loud m...

I don't mind staying in old, run down hotels and have plenty of times, but when they are filthy dirty there is just no excuse.

We stayed in the furthest room up the hill, which had wonderful views, but check the photos for how disgustingly dirty the room was, after we'd asked them to clean it! All it would take is a small spend to properly clean and fix the bathroom (like a new toilet seat instead of using gaffer tape to try and fix), in-room safe etc, and this place might be okay. The bar area has a nice view and probably worth a visit once if you staying in the area. I suspect they are just letting this place run itself into the ground and then will try and sell the land for the best price they can, as there certainly isn't any maintenance happening and they are just trying to make money from the bar (90baht for a Singha, that most other places sell for 60baht).

I'd been travelling for 2 weeks through Malaysia/Thailand before arrived here, I didn't eat the day before arriving at night, then ate dinner at the bar and the breakfast, and by 2pm was horribly sick and ended up spending 2 nights / 3 days in the local hospital clinic. To be fair I can't say for certain the food here caused it, but I didn't eat anywhere else for 24hrs previously, so will always have an uncertain feeling about this place. The staff where helpful and drove me and wife to the clinic and were reasonable in settling the bill the following day.

If you don't mind filth, this place has great views at the quiet end of the island, but I'd avoid it unless you have no other option.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel

This resort is a disgrace for the beautiful bay of kantiang. It is owned by thai "mafia" who are trying to intimidate and bribe their way into the tourist buisness, indstead of just compeeting on equal terms. Please dont support them.

To be honest: view on bay is magnificent ! But that is all !
When checking in, I asked for roomprices and options. It was low season, and no discount was given on the normal rates, although it was low season. They charged me the full price of Bath 2.200. Paying with credicard was not possible according the girl at the reception. She was not helpfull, and à total lack of hospitality. What a big difference with all the other places i visited in Thailand. The lobby seemed to be à hang out for sleeping, smoking and tv watching staff (?).
Rooms: like i said, bayview is stunning, and this is what makes the hotel à place to stay. Fridge did not work. Looking more carefully, it was all a bit dirty, sheets had fungus, and i had trouble to have them changed. A colony of ants were my company in the bathroom. Webs, including spiders in all corners.
For reasons I had to stay here longer, and I was surprised that in 3 days, there was no roomcleaning, no changing towels and/or sheets. Asking the manager why, his respons was: I am affraid of beeing accused of theft !!! You either donnot trust your staff or your clients ! I have visited many hostels and hotels in my life, but this was a very surprising answer.
Around 7 pm there is either a band playing loud popmusic, or a lady singing like a parrot, playing her hammond organ. Her repertoire is limited to 4 or 5 softpopsongs, so a bit frustrating when trying to sleep, as she does not stop before midnight.
The restaurant is poor. Breakfast is OK, but do not have dinner ! I had the worst greasy noodles ever in Thailand !
After a while I thought this is a strange price - value, and did some internet research: prices offered on agoda.com were 50% less, than they charged me !!! Asking the manager for the reason, together with other complaints he finally offered me a 5% discount !!!!! Very disappointing ! This place is a definite NO GO place. Thanks to the location, they could have made it to a perfect place to stay, but they only seem to make money, which is very bad for the tourist industry in Thailand !

Room Tip: Book via agoda.com or similar websites, than you do not have to argue about the prices
