It would be easy to by-pass this beach on the way to or from the National Park - the tracks down to it look difficult for scooter or car. However if you keep going south on the road, there is an opening right beside the idyllic tropical beach. It was a glorious place to spend a few hours under the shade of jungle trees, on fine white sand and by beautiful clear water. Hardly anyone there, even in peak season. Go soon, there's a concrete development underway on the hill.

Very beautiful beach and not a lot of people in it! When we found it, we went were everyday even though we lived near a long beach. Highly recommended while exploring an island on a motorbike:)

ao mai phai is located in the deep south of the island. it is the last beach before the national park beginns and thats the reason, because a lot of locals call the mai phai beach also "last beach".
the water of this maybe 2 kilometers long beach is crystal clear and some realy big rocks interrupt the sandy parts. the beach slopes gently to the sea and families with small children will find a paradise here. further the beach is very quiet and only a few resorts are located at this very natural place. the lush vegetation comes till close to the powdersand and gives the visitor the feeling to be very close to the nature. in the evening after sunset the beachlife is very reduced, because restaurants and beachbars are only located in the resorts and that makes the holiday on the southern beaches of lanta so expensive.
we found ao mai phai in the early afternoon on our way back from the national parc and we decided to stop there for our selfbrought drinks and for swimming. it was a perfect afternoon and because we stayed in the beginning of the highseason on koh lanta there were not so many people on the beach. we can recomment ao mai phai very much for an lazy afternoon with swimming after visiting the national parc. the beach was lonely and the chill factor very high.
