“Not a 4-5* resort..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2013

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the resort in February.

Firstly I must stress that we had a lovely time in Ko Lanta, and at the resort.

However; I have been fortunate enough to stay at a few 4+* star resorts before, and this just isn't one.
The grounds are beautiful, our room was big, pool was great, but there were too many inconveniences to call themselves a luxury resort.

The staff were mostly very helpful and polite, the big issue here was their English skills, which were very poor. You could not talk at all to the staff about anything other than the very basic things. Reception staff excluded.

The pool bar.. Don't go there. The price is ridiculously high, for very poor and boring food. And they don't walk around taking orders, they just stand by the bar, and you have to go make the order yourself. (Again, not a big deal, but for a luxury resort, a pool staff taking orders around the pool is pretty standard).
For lunch (and sometimes dinner) we went to the beach bar/restaurant about 30 metres to the left, lovely food and for a third of the price! And the staff's English skills exceeded Rawi's.
We never ate at the restaurant at the hotel, as other guests warned about the prices. I'm not opposed to spend a bit of money for a good meal, however, nobody likes the feeling of being "ripped off". Take a 15 minute stroll to Klong Nin beach (to the right on the street from the hotel), where lovely beach restaurants are lined up! :)

The bathroom in our Pond room was big and nice. (The beds are VERY hard though, worth to note).
However, a hair (mine thankfully ;)) on the showerwall was there for a good 8 days before someone cleaned it. So cleaning was not the best. Also the housekeeping was sometimes very late. We got back a couple of times around 5-5.30 to the room to find it had not been cleaned yet.

All in all, we had a lovely time. The grounds are lovely, the pool great, excellent breakfast, and so on, and we did not want to go home. A few things the hotel needs to sort out, but the place has great potential!

Room Tip: We had a pond room, 211, wich was very spacious, and close to pool and beach. However, one should...

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

We stayed for 5 nights (15-20 Jan 2013) and were not disappointed. Changed our booking at the last minute from a “Deluxe Room” to a “Pond Room” after reading other TA reports about the long up-hill walk to Deluxe rooms; and very pleased we made this change.
The resort is large and spread out with beautiful landscaped gardens, ponds, swimming pools (main pool + smaller pool at the top of the hill to cater for deluxe rooms) and a unique pool in the ocean, which was open for use during our stay.
Pond rooms are well located near all hotel amenities & beach. A few deluxe rooms will have the same advantage, but most will involve a long walk or golf type buggy ride to your room.
We found the selection at breakfast excellent with a variety of hot/cold as well as Eastern/Western choices. Very impressed with the choice of fresh juices which included local exotic fruits and the more conventional fruit juices. Had the best omelets! Quality of food and fresh produce was of a high standard.
Staff throughout the resort was efficient, friendly, and helpful and spoke English in their “Thai” way; which is what we expect when visiting Thailand … if you want to only communicate & hear good English, then travelers should choose countries where English is the national language! The hotel had a young PR man walking around the pool/beach/hotel area throughout the day assisting and giving guests advice.
The Pond rooms were spacious, well appointed to hotel facilities. Lots of bathroom and general amenities supplied (shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/toothbrushes/razor/body lotion etc), including a “beach bag”, umbrella, his/hers beach sandals, ironing board & iron, and scales ….. Plus a fresh fruit plate each day ……much more than most hotels!
We had great spa treatments at the hotel during our stay which was very good. Guests have free access to snorkeling and kayaking equipment to use on small clean beach directly in front of hotel.
We loved the location of this hotel after renting a scooter (from kiosk outside hotel entrance) and exploring and looking at other beaches in Koh Lanta. It’s an easy walk from hotel via the beach or main road to Klong Nin where there is a lovely selection of good restaurants (Oasis Sunset & Kansa), pubs and shops.
Highly recommended and would stay here again!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for "Pond Room" if you don't fancy long walks up/down to your room...

We spent a fantastic week in a large pond room with a superb view of the sea. Ask for room 295. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings in Thai style. Friendly staff. The beach is not the best on Koh Lanta but the pool area is really nice and the nearby bar/restaurant Orchid is also highly recommendable. If we ever get the chance, we will return to Rawi Warin. That's for sure. We really loved it.

Room Tip: Room 295 was excellent with a fantastic view. Suites and sunset villas are also good but at a higher...

The hotel is great, the villas and pool are lovely,a few things let this resort down. Communication is always tricky in Thailand but you would think the staff of a 5 star resort would be better trained and the grasp of English a lot better!! They are missing out on sunset drinks the pool bar shuts at 5 so we and other guests went along the beach to the other bars . No activities like yoga offered, there were kayaks available also snorkel and masks but they were all broken or leaked!! The food was good enough and not too expensive, you can eat out, its all the same along the beach unless you go to the town (long beach) red snapper was very good. A disappointing moment when we received a letter in our room saying that we were being charged for the replacement of a face cloth
which my wife had got some makeup on!! We took this up with reception and asked to see the manager but no managers ever appeared on both requests or any explanations, but were given a comp massage on the eve of out last day and a letter apologising. We were not the only guests to receive the laundry bill.
Overall I would say there is not a lot of effort going on here, they are just getting by on there 5 star status .

We did not plan to stay at the Rawi Warin, but the hotel we booked at lost our reservation and gave us a room here. We are beach people and did not choose to stay here because their beach is terrible. It's rocky and not good for walking nor swimming. That being said, if you are a pool person and don't care about the beach, this is a great place. The pool is excellent - large, clean, and beautiful. We stayed in a pond room and it was very nice. Our rain shower did not work, and they came to fix it right away.
The hotel's restaurants are quite expensive, but we only ate breakfast there (it's free and very good). We rented a scooter and went to other areas of Ko Lanta to eat other meals and hang out on the beach. Rent a scooter from the place right across from the main entrance - it's 300 Baht per day. The resort charges 450 Baht.
The Rawi Warin is a large, pretty resort and is a great choice if you want a gorgeous pool and don't care about a nice beach for walking/swimming.

We are a family of 4 with 2 older kids who stayed in a large Pond room with 2 Queen size beds which was very comfortable. The hotel is in Klong Toab next to Klong Nin which is much quieter yet peaceful. A 7/11 right across the road was fantastic for your afternoon beers or cokes for your scotch at sunset on your balcony. There are some yummy halal local restaurants within a 5-7min walk which served authentic Thai food with a smile. Had 3 great dinners at a Indian restaurant called Bangla Hut the owner and family were fabulous and attentive. The hotel is huge and private which made the beach secluded with a clean rocky foreshore. The staff are sweet, polite but most lack confidence and I guess if properly trained like the staff in a international chain such as the Hilton or Sofitel, this would make the Rawi Warin a magical destination because of its great peaceful location. For the $400 p/n one would expect a certain service level incomparison to a Hilton or Sofital chain. A few tips: such as Introducing music by the pool & beach to lift the atmosphere at sunset, aerobics or zumba by the pool, happy hour between 4-7pm to provide guests with their simple holiday pleasures. Overall we had a lovely break away from our hectic schedule of life. Thank you to ZEED at front desk and ROCKY the sports instructor for making our holiday special.

Room Tip: Pond room for sure

After the disappointment of phi phi relax and (costa del) patong, we booked this place on a whim, just wanted to relax after our wedding on Railay, and was not disappointed.
Big clean rooms. Nice grounds great pool, which has a kids slide (which my wife banned me from using) and pool, over the infinity edge, which kept the inevitable few kids away from those wanting to relax. Well thought out that! The sea pool is a nice touch but my missus struggled to get out of it, the ladder is not long enough.

Breakfast was ok, buffet style with everything available from bacon to fruit. The evening menu was a little pricy, so we never ate there so I can't comment on evening service but the breakfast service was second to none. The resort is only 10 mins walk from lots of local thai restaurants and bars that are built around the life of the Island not over it and serve great food. The beef in oyster sauce at the O2 bar was amazing.

Beautiful island and klung nin beach is still undeveloped and unspoilt but get out and explore, across from the main entrance you can hire a bike for 250bt a day (less if you have it for longer). At the southern tip of the Island we found a gorgeous beach which we had to ourselves. (but watch out for the monkeys checking you're bags out while you're in the water)
The road that runs from the east to West of the island from klung nin towards lanta old town has an open air thai market on a Wednesday afternoon (it was Wednesday when we found it) which has some great food and sights which need to be seen and smells that need smelling, amazing experience that.

I wish I was still there.
