We ended off our holiday on the lovely Koh Lanta Island. We were really looking forward to our stay here and it was also my birthday, so we'd planned on drinking cocktails, making use of the spa and just winding down after a varied and quite busy holiday.
What Moonlight Bay failed to mention was that in low season they operate a skeleton staff (with most parts missing). We were advised at check in that if we wanted to eat at the resort restaurant, that we had to choose from a menu of about 8 choices, and get our order to reception before 5pm (!!), or we could eat at any of the restaurants down the road. The reception was nice, the entrance to the resort looked nice, our room was a river view (but it looked more like a swamp..) and they placed us right next to the bridge connecting the resort to the reception (if it had been busy - we might have been affected by noise of passing guests). We dropped off our bags in our room, and went to find the bar (which had looked lovely in all the photos we'd seen online). The resort was under repair (which you can expect during low season). The pool wasn't anything to write about, the pool/bar restaurant was deserted and pretty much closed up (all the optics were empty, no glasses behind the bar etc), and the Rocky Beach Bar hadn't even been tidied up. We enquired at reception about the Rocky Beach Bar and were advised that if the 2 other couples staying at the resort stayed for dinner, and so did we, then they could see about keeping someone on to serve drinks after dinner. The Spa was closed for the season. So all we had was a bungalow on a dirty river. The mini bar only had 2 bottles of water in it. So we left and went to a resort down the road instead that offered all services advertised. I'm sure this is a lovely resort in high season, but don't bother going in low season.

Room Tip: There are 4 river view rooms right near the road/reception, I would upgrade to something further in.

This resort is located about half way down the koh lanta coast which is a perfect spot to stay and explore. Like most of Koh Lanta, the hotel is reasonably secluded with a small town about a 15 mins walk away. The bungalows were very nice, large, clean and our forest view also had quite a good sea view. This place would be just sensational for those who want extreme peace & quiet (incl from staff) or during the busier season when there are some services. While it had everything going for it, most staff were on vacation as it was low season - therefore no lunch or dinner service, no bar, no staff - we kinda felt deserted. Motorbikes were also all with vacationing staff. Lunch and dinner were a 15mins walk to the small town. Great food right on beach, just a dark walk home. Renting a bike is the only way! Anyway, great place, just consider whether you want services during low season. And yes we would return during a busier season.

We originally booked this hotel for 4 nights and planned to move on to Phi phi. We loved it so much that we jus went to Phi phi for a day and a night and returned for another 4 nights. It was very quiet whist we were there (mid/ end April)- almost too quiet if that possible. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough to help. Prices were very reasonable and good food/ beer etc.
We had a sea view room that was just heaven.
If you go you must venture into the village (30 min walk or 100-200B by taxi) and try the Oasis Sunset resturant- Brilliant food service and value!

Can't wait to go back!!!!!

We didn't book this hotel in advance and just turned up. We rang ahead and knew they had some spare rooms. We were offered a Forest view room at first but then a Sea view room became available. We opted for the Sea view room as we wanted to overlook the sea and the room was a bit bigger than the Forest view room.

We were welcomed with a cold face towel which was lovely as it was a very hot day. We were shown to our room, bags carried and thought the room was lovely. It was spotlessly clean, big enough, big bed, nice bathroom, TV, coffee making facilities and a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. The room was quiet noisy at night with the noise of the waves and all the different creatures making various noises but once you got used to the noises it was fine.

We stayed fro 6 nights and eate at the restaurant every night apart from one. The food was consistently good and delicious and Ken and his staff were so friendly.

We hired a scooter from the hotel to get around and see the island which was fab and we highly recommend do so. There was lots of information about things to do by reception and free internet to look things up.

We also did the Thai cooking class that the hotel offer which is brilliant, which we also highly recommend doing.

The swimming pool is on the small side but because there weren't that many people there when we were it wasn't a problem. The private beach is pebbly and the entrance into the sea is rocky but you can still get into the sea for a swim.

I really wanted to have a full body thai massage whilst I was there but thought the prices were on the expensive side compared to other parts of Thailand we had been too.

Apart from a few small things, we couldn't fault the Moonlight Bay apart from being a little too on the quiet side. At no point where there more than 15 other people around at any one time. The evenings were very quiet and lights went out around 10.30-11pm.

We had a lovely stay here and it's a lovely place and we would definitely go back again!

Room Tip: Sea view or Beach Front
