Royal Lanta Resort and Spa

All what you need for a nice Lanta stay. 2 pools, fairly small resort, easy walk to the main street and night food stalls and plenty of restaurants and bars. If possible, take the large pool view suits as the are larger than the standard rooms. Will choose this hotel when next time in Lanta.

Room Tip: Pool view suits, worth the price difference.

Generally a nice resort in a good location with a nice safe sandy beach on one side and a road with various restaurants and bars at the back. Accommodation is in individual bungalows in a tropical setting with lots of vegatation that makes them feel private. It is best suited to families and 80% of the customers are scandinavian families. Unfortunately it lets itself down with a number of small faults that could easily be fixed e.g. the bathroom in the bungalow needed a good clean and redecoration. The breakfast was generally poor with no variety, also there were not enough sun loungers so you had the usual ritual of towels going out at 7am. It is also quite expensive and there are better resorts on the island but you need to book early, especially at xmas.

Room Tip: Don't pay for 'premium' deluxe rooms they are the same size as the standard deluxe rooms

Out of the 3 hotels that we stayed at during our 2 weeks in Koh Lanta I liked this hotel the best. The location is ideal. It's lose enough to the main town that a TukTuk ride is inexpensive an quick. It's on a long, wide, white clean beach that has many other hotels, bars, restaurants and places to get a massage. It is also very family friendly and quite. There is plenty on nightlife to be had just down the beach.

There are two pools. One is huge and set back from the ocean and one is almost right on the beach. There are open bungalows to hangout in out of the sun or nice deck chairs. It's situated so you can take full advantage of a nice sunset.

You can rent a freestanding bungalow that are closer to the water or a room in one of the larger hotel buildings. We booked a family room that comfortably fit 4 of us. It was huge, had comfortable bedding, an enormous bathroom with tons of towels, bathrobes, slippers, fast WIFI, good tv and excellent AC.

There is a 7-11, pharmacy, fruit stands and clothing stores at the end of the street and a place to rent scooters jet down the road from the hotel. Koh Lanta is one of the few places in all of Thailand that I felt even remotely safe to ride scooter.

The breakfast buffet wasn't fantastic, nor was the restaurant. Don't order a cocktail hoping to get much liquor in it but that was pretty much the case with every hotel we stayed at on Koh Lanta. There are better food options.

At the far southern end of the beach is Time for Lime restaurant which although pricey is delicious and they also offer cooking classes. The woman who runs Time for Lime also runs an animal welfare center and if you like you can volunteer time walking dogs, or caring for the animals. The reason I mention this is that the beach has many very happy, friendly, healthy dogs and cats on it. This isn't the case in much of Thailand and I loved that about this beach.

Room Tip: There are better restaurant options of the beach, but the best places to eat are in town.

Thank you for the wealth of recommendation and information that you have shared in Trip Advisor with others. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your 2 weeks stay with us.

Our bunk bed for 2 children in the family room you stayed are very popular. We use 10 Mbps leased line for Wifi connection, UBC package for in-house entertainment and DAIKIN wall type air-conditioning system. We hope to see you and your family again on your next visit.

Warm regards from Sunny Lanta.

Large bungalow, beautiful lush gardens - hideous dirty beach maybe as it was low season, shops 5 minutes walk away. Staff were not the best, but I put it down to low season but still no excuse. Breakfast was ok, at least it was freshly made for you rather than buffet. Overall for £30 a night you can't complain!!

Chose this resort for a stay of 3 nights and 4 days based on the reviews in Tripadvisor. The reviews did not let us down. We had booked a pool view suite and was worth the money. The room is big and spacious, all the amenities mentioned in the site(for the room booked) are well provided. They did not have a phone in the room was the only drawback. The resort is big and beautiful and during the eve the entire resort is lit by small electric lamps and looks really good. The beach in front of the resort is not so great compared to the other beaches down the lane. The breakfast served was good too...!! The rooms would be cleaned up by the time we returned from breakfast.

Room Tip: The mountain view suites are hardly occupied and are really quite. View from the balcony during nigh...

There was no telephone, hair dryer nor kettle in the room. You can't have room service unless you order at the restaurant and have it delivered. The room numbers are impossible to see at night so I ended up counting the rooms to get to mine. The towels were also crummy looking. I must also add that I could constantly hear my neighbours talking in their room. The walls must be paper thin!

It states WIFI is available but when I got there, it was only available in the lobby. Safe facilities as well which I assumed was available in the room was only available at the hotel counter. An extra latch outside the bathroom door certainly gave me the impression that it wasn't safe.

Came to Royal Lanta last two weeks of October (fantastic time to come - cheap and very quiet, but still plenty of bars/restaurants open) fantastic weather this year. Always come this time of year for past 10 years and weather has never been a problem, always go back with a tan!

Beautiful setting for hotel right on best beach in Koh Lanta - prob 2 miles of lovely sand with lots of bars and restaurants to choose from (best to go left for best/cheapest restaurants - Easy bar our favourite on beach). Also lots of restaurants/bars on main road - much cheaper than beach restaurants and more traditional thai food - best restaurant Sawasdee - turn right and a few hundred yards across the road - excellent cheap food/staff. Short walk (15 minutes) to Saladan with nice harbour front restaurants, shops etc. Don't use taxis outside hotel, walk to the road and flag one down and haggle (25 bahts to Saladan - no more), cheaper.

Had superior room. Traditional thai villa type accommodation in jungle like setting. Rooms adequate with huge bed, TV, good air con, free water. Lovely wet room shower (good pressure and always hot), lots of storage space and power points. Deluxe room no different, just slightly bigger, but not worth price to upgrade (in my opinion). No safe. Maid service superb.

Two pools - beachfront pool and garden pool - garden pool huge and lovely and quiet without the noise of children, water very warm and very relaxing. Beachfront pool more popular with families (although in low season not a problem) used this more, again nice pool with separate bit for children and jacuzzi. No problems with sun beds. Sun beds in garden facing beach.

Had introductory massage in hotel spa - not very good. Better massage in Saladan if you want proper Thai massage and much cheaper at 300 baht.

Lovely well kept immaculate grounds. Nice breakfast area/restaurant. Breakfast adequate (we're not breakfast people - just a slice of toast and bacon does us!) Staff friendly and efficient.

I would definitely recommend this hotel if you like a quiet, relaxing holiday for families and couples alike with nice friendly guests (not many russians - thank goodness to spoil things!) mainly Scandanavian.

Hired moped for £4.00 per day to tour island (didn't take very long, small island) definitely worth doing, beautiful island with very quiet roads.

Koh Lanta is a very quiet island with not much to do other than chill, explore, engage with the very friendly locals and eat and drink at the many restaurants. Fab - can't wait to return next year!

Room Tip: We had room No 1131 which was a really good position - halfway between reception and beach.
