“Wow Factor”
Reviewed March 11, 2012

There is little that I can add to the reviews already written that provided us with the reason to select this resort. I can only thank those reviewers and of course the Management and total staff of the Layana Resort for providing us with an excellent holiday. It has taken us 2 years to secure a booking so I would advise anyone interested in going here to book early as many guests seem to rebook before leaving. Would we return and the answer is yes but as we have many other places to visit in the workd when I am yet unsure.

The first words that came out of my mouth when I went into the garden room that we had (1022) was 'wow'. We normally stop in 4 or 5 star resorts and this has got to be in the top best hotels that we have stayed at. The garden room was excellent and having seen the locations of the beach bungalows we were more than happy with the garden room which was in a quieter location and it was great to sit on the balcony pm listening to the variety of birds that were around.

Everything this hotel does is slick and there is clearly an effort by all staff to ensure that everytnig is perfect and in the main it was so much so that it was dificult to highlight any one member of staff that stood out above others.

Karin the Director of Rooms Im sure never sleeps. He was seen early morning waving off guest departing from the resort, driving the cars late at night ensuring guest arriving back to the hotel were driven to their rooms to save getting wet and then he was there the next morning before 7am to say goodbye to us. An amazing guy whose smile and presence seemed to be around most of the day and evenings.

This was a resort where I left not feeling that the priority was to make money out of guests. Water during the day was plentiful and at no additional cost. The price you see on the menu is the price you pay and it includes the taxes. Meal prices were comparable to may local restaurants and we mixed between the two.

Me (nickname) one of the leisure staff was very kind and considerate. We went on 2 trips with him and on one where there was a steep climb and a walk over rocky slippy terrain he was always by my side ensuring that I made it in one piece.

What we found that may be useful to know

The hotel provides plenty of shampoo, soap, shower gel, insect spray - you dont need to take these items. They provide a kettle in the room with tea and coffee provided. The library is quite well stocked and there is free internet access if you cant survive without the internet.

Taxis or tuk tuks (well recommened just for the experience) can be called from the reception or by taking a walk to the main road where many will stop. We normally paid 100 bahts each way which included the tip. 100 bahts is just over 2 english pounds. There was an expectation that this was the rate so we didnt have to establish the price before we got into the vehicle.

We did not go to a restaurant where we did not enjoy the food. We went to a different one each night and i would not ignore the local restaurants in walking distance from the hotel. The look may put people off but I can assure you the food is excellent and the price ridiculously low.

The Kaus Kristanta cost us around 390 bahts. One not to be missed is Time for line a restaurant that serves 6 courses and a different menu each day of the week. They are more than happy to alter the menu if you dont eat certain things. We ate at Thai Cat (butter fish was deliciousbut dont have the pancakes unless you like them to be 6 inches thick)The Frog , several restaurants that overlooked the sea and the italian pizza just outside Saladin. Our only disappointment was a restaurant in the Old Town called Fresh (Seafood or Restaurant) not because of the food but the 2 hour wait for its delivery.

The hotel food was excellent and we can recommend the hotel BBQ. We dont normally go to BBQs but we attended the BBQs each Saturday. For lovers of sushi, seafood this is one not to be missed.

Shopping at Saladin is not as painful as it was in Ao Nang last year. There is no pressure for you to enter a shop or buy and you are left alone to wander. Yes you have to negotiate the price but that is just part of the fun and you can soon find out their lowest price.

We went on the round the island trip by longboat, and the sunset cruise. Both were good fun and in the longboat trip is was good to go into the old town. The hotel put on an extra trip to the Koh Lanta festival at the old town which was great to be part of and gave you an insight into the local culture. Trips were slightly more expensive but the hotel trips provided staff from the resort and the boats were owned by the resort and were briliant.

We went 24/2/12 to 10/3/12 The first week was hot with a couple of outbursts of rain. The second week was great during the day but late afternoon into the evenings there was torrential rain (but probably light for this area).

Local laundry is fantastic and the cost was for 38 items 135 bahts (about £3). We worked out too late for us that you need to ask for items to be ironed otherwise they just wash. Washing put in one evening will be ready to collect the following afternoon.

We wanted a place of peace and tranquility and this we got.

Room Tip: Stay in the garden rooms

To be subtle, it blew away all of my expectations. Before visiting, as this was my first time, I had heard that Layana was a resort that had a very strong following of returning travelers (which is always a good sign) - and now I know why. The property is secluded from all of life's everyday nuisances... you could seriously hear a pin drop walking around the grounds. The pool is perfectly located right on the beach with a fully stocked bar close by :) Free internet, friendly & attentive staff, superb views along with a healthy yet mouth watering menu in the restaurant.
However, personally I'd have to say that the attention to 'personal service' is what made all the difference for me... if you want to be pampered -LAYANA.

We were returning guests and we had another wonderfull holiday at Layana, Everything was just perfect with really an excellent service, and truly relaxing time. The food was very good and we were blessed by a nice sunny weather. We will be back again, this is for sure. Leonardo e Daniela Mordini - Italy

My husband and I had an amazing stay at Layana. The grounds were beautiful, the room was lovely, and the staff was amazingly friendly. Felt like staying with family the way they treated us and all the other guests. Food had a huge variety and the beach is beautiful. Location is wonderful. Lots of activities and we would definitely come back here again. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
The only minor issue would be that the beds are a bit on the extra firm side. Other than that, this place is absolutely amazing.

My wife and I stayed at the Layana resort for 4 nights and we had a lovely time. All aspects of service relating to our stay were fantastic. We arrived at Krabi airport and were immediately met by a Layana representative. Our transport from the airport to the resort was seamless and quick.

When we arrived at the resort we were met by the general manager and some members of the staff who showed us around. The feel at the resort was different than any other resort I've been to. We were treated like family from arrival to departure and staff did a great job of meeting our needs while not be intrusive so we really got to enjoy our vacation to the fullest.

We ate at the Tides restaurant which had many dining options so we wound up eating there each day of our stay. We also did an elephant ride and the phi phi island tour arranged through the resort and both excursions were excellent. The resort has specific tours on certain days so they set up our phi phi island tour with an outside company since the tour is usually on Tuesdays each week (we arrived on Tuesday after the tour had commenced and left on Saturday). The excursion with the outside vendor was great though.

All in all Thailand is a beautiful place. Staying at Layana, on the beautiful island Ko Lanta, made our trip relaxing and enjoyable. You definitely can't go wrong with spending your holiday at such a great establishment. Thanks to all of the staff we met for their hospitality and we look to return one day in the future.

Room Tip: I really don't think there are any bad rooms to choose. We had a garden bungalow which was very...

This was our 3rd stay at the Layana, we stayed for 7 nights before going on to Phuket. The new management are maintaining the high standards of the hotel, and we felt that the small subtle changes that have been made are positive.Nothing is too much trouble, and we came away as always feeling very pampered and relaxed. We hope to return for longer next year.

It's been said so much about Layana, that I think there is no need to repeat how wonderful it is. I wanted to write more of a Thank you! note to Layana team. I must say that I am a very picky customer and while serching for next vacation destination I try to find a perfect place that would make you want to come back over and over agin. Layana is definitely such a place. And the fact that most of Layanas guests are regular customers which return year after year sais it all.
It's a very cozy resort with a lot of attention paid to smallest details which makes the holiday so special. We would absolutely be back as soon as we have a chance of a child-free vacation. Or maybe it's time to build a "baby Layana" for Layana fans with children :)
