If you are looking for an idyllic, relaxing vacation in paradise, look no further than Pimalai. I traveled about 30 hours to get there (including 3 planes, a van ride, and the Pimalai speed boat), but the journey was totally worth it. I have been fortunate to travel throughout the Caribbean and Europe, and have been to many beautiful beaches, but there is something magical about Pimalai. It is supremely relaxing and the perfect place to unplug.

Above all, the resort provides some of the most impeccable service that I have ever experienced. We did not encounter a single staff member who wasn't smiling and eager to help us. Franck is a fabulous general manager and made sure that our anniversary was very special for us. From our welcome at the floating dock with beautiful fragipani flowers, to our in room check in we felt immediately at home. Our pool villa was stunning, and we took advantage of our jet lag by getting up early to watch the sun rise and have a swim in our private plunge pool.

The restaurant provided the best breakfast that I have had at a resort, complete with my favorite feature: luscious, local tropical fruits that rotated each day. The breakfast buffet also included fantastic fruit smoothies. We also enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the resort spa with a Thai herbal foot soak and couple's massage. The spa facilities were amazing with a lovely outdoor space of beautiful wood furniture where we could relax, have some cleansing ginger tea, and watch the koi fish swimming.

While at Pimalai, we met a couple who had been returning for the last 10 years, and we can certainly see why. Our only complaint was that we had to leave! We look forward to returning next year for our anniversary (hopefully for a longer stay!), and fully trust in Pimalai to provide an experience that is just as amazing.

Sawasdee Melissa G rom New York!
YES ! INDEED - 30 hours.....! That the "price" you now have to pay to find something out of the beaten tracks and away from touristic Thailand. Thank you so much for making that long trip.
I am glad to read you enjoy the reward for such a long trip. Thank you for praising the staff and the service; they do it all....and so deserve all the credits! Thank for taking the time to write sic a positive review - much appreciated. And i look forward seeing you back here sometimes in the future. Sunny Rgds from Lanta. Franck

Following a somewhat busy "Thai culture and food" experience in one of the bigger cities up north, we wanted a few quiet days on the beach, and some serious pampering. We definitely found the right place with the Pimalai. From the moment you are met at the airport in Krabi, you are treated to the finest and friendliest service imaginable; when you arrive you are brought directly to your room to be quickly checked in, with a cold towel and refreshing drinks. Our room, one of the pool villas on the hillside, was beyond expectations, both the bedroom/master bath and the separate living room/kitchen/bath were spacious and luxurious. The real bonus was the private infinity pool (yes, totally private!) and cabana in the middle between the bedroom and the living room, with a gorgeous view of the beach and bay and the evening sunset. Could have spent the whole time in the room and not regretted it!

All of the resort grounds, restaurants, pools, etc. are beautifully designed and landscaped, and impeccably maintained. The service is exemplary, all of the staff seem to smile and greet you because they want to, not because they are ordered to, some even go to the trouble of learning your name to greet you personally. In keeping with the "pampered" theme we took advantage of an afternoon at the spa - I'm not really into this as much as my wife but this was the most relaxing bath/skin treatment/massage I've ever experienced. Another day we took a "2 island" excursion and snorkeling trip. There was just one other couple on the boat with us, compared to some of the other tour boats I saw that were packed with as many as 50 tourists. Again nothing but great service including a nice lunch barbecue on board.

All of the restaurants we tried (Seven Seas for breakfast, Rak Talay for lunch, Spice-n-Rice for dinner) were good, with gorgeous atmosphere and views. The Seven Seas has a nice looking western menu for dinner, however we didn't try this as we wanted to stick with Thai food. That said, Spice-n-Rice was good but not great, nice flavors and presentations but the dishes were tamed significantly which I suppose you have to do to please a wide variety of guests. If you're after more authentic, spicier Thai food, there are a couple places nearby with the real stuff, but without the setting offered at the Pimalai - you can find a number of reviews of these places on Tripadvisor.

Room Tip: Indulge yourself - go for the pool villa!

Sawasdee MarkC from California. Great review thks & much appreciated - Like the way you mention about the staff's attitude - thks - will pass on your comment to them. Great to read!.
Spot on the Thai food; have to find the right balance to please the wide variety in great numbers. One can always ask the waiting staff to get the chef to intensify the spicy taste if needed - no problem to do so. Thank you for travelling from so far to stay with us! Sunny rgds from Lanta! Franck

I chose between this place and some other nice resort and I thank you myself that have chosen this one. The villa is value for the price we paid. The resort staff and service are beyond expectation. I had my great time with friends in 2 bedroom villa with the sea and sunset view. The food at resort is quite nice comparing with the price (very reasonable!). The most favorite for me is a kitchen which has described that you can prepare your light meal such as breakfast but the fact is you can even organize the party with that kitchen!!!

We stayed there for 4 nights as family with 4 year old child. Almost everything is really great here. Location and the beach are superb, the hotel fits nicely into the landscape. Staff very nice, room was ok, sleep quality very good. The only disappointment were the restaurants (for dinner). We tried all of them and the food quality was ok, but not more than that. Breakfast and lunch were ok. There are almost zero nearby options to go for dinner, so you are a bit stuck there with the food they offer. In every restaurant we had very good dishes but also some not so good ones, so the overall experience was not outstanding. Maybe we were just a bit disappointed because everything else was so nice and relaxing. But what we heard from other travellers we met there, it is still one of the top places to go on Ko Lanta.
Would recommend this hotel to a friend.

The place is fantastic. It was what Phuket was 25 years ago, quiet , relaxing and miles from the maddening crowd. This resort is superb and has a huge variety of accommodation, restaurants and bars it's just great. The lush foliage and beautiful plants make it a delight to wander the gardens. We stayed in a Villa with our own infinity pool. We really needed a quiet relaxing holiday and that is what we had. The pools 2 major pools are fabulous. There are plenty of very good dining options that wont send you broke. Housekeeping is wonderful and service everywhere was superb. We will be back ASAP.

Dear HigginsTony; thank you very much for your nice review ; much appreciated. Very happy to read that you enjoyed the very relaxing time while staying with us. Thank you for highlighting the very good and affordable dining options . I was pleased to read your praises on the service provided by the crew, especially by the Housekeeping people and i am sure they will be very pleased to hear about that. Many options for vacation in Thailand; thank you for selecting Pimalai, indeed set on a beautiful bay like it used to be in Phuket...though 25 years ago!.
I recalled we chat on a couple of occasion and i recall you are from Melboune/ Geelong AFL club.... & so GO CATS!!!...Sunny rgds from Lanta. Franck

After researching many hotels online to find a place that had a reasonably sized pool, great view and lots of privacy, I can say the pool villa at Pimalai did meet our requirements on that. We were also assigned one of the villas with the most privacy so I can say is Pimalai does try to accommodate your requests.

There are already many reviews on how good the place is so I'll just list the good and bad I experienced.

Good:
1. Great villa with private pool
2. Breakfast with a great view
3. Beach with long stretch of fine white sand
4. Good french food at Seven Seas Restaurant
5. Polite staff who take initiative

Bad
1. Disappointing Thai food (both from room service and Banyan Tree)
2. Flies buzzing around the ham area during breakfast daily was a great turnoff
3. Poor organizing skills by staff for transfer to another hotel on another island

Consider booking with SLH.com, you get some additional perks.

Dear TravelGo Getter ; thks for good review overall . I did investigate on the transfer and indeed the person who dealt with you could have a little bit better with that & we will work on that during these quite months of the year.
For the Thai food, all have different approach on cuisine of Thailand and especially when the level spices comes into play; we prepare Thai cuisine in the way that seems to have been successful and very well accepted by our thousand of guest; it can happen that sometimes one might not like it so much.
I noted your comments on the flies; believe me VERY unusual for us too ; nothing to do with hygiene or such, but we believe the result of a 5 very long months of drought that was cut suddenly about that time you got here with pouring rain and that gave way to thousands of flies popping out from everywhere! Fortunately this phenomenon lasted only a few days.
Thank you for staying with us. Sunny rgds from Lanta. Franck
