I went to Pimalai as part of a tour of Thailand for our honeymoon
we stayed at the lower part of the resort, closer to the beach and we were very happy with the room we had very spacious and with a nice flat l cd TV.
The Spa is the best I have ever seen and the therapist are really professional, although I had some trouble to find a day available for booking.
The beach is a very long stretch of clean sand and it felt as it was our private beach as very few people were there. The sea, however, is not so impressive in term of clarity of the water
We tried all the restaurants: the one on the beach had amazingly friendly staff an a more relaxed atmosphere than the one on the hill, which was very elegant and with amazing food!
a special mention goes to the Italian manager Mirko, who helped us out of some trouble we had with the hotel where we had stayed before. Also he was also wearing an amazing smile and seems to be everywhere in the hotel.
Also very kind and professional were the girls at breakfast, particularly Yin? and Gao?
Only small troubles we had it with the transfer to the hotel, but the resort made it up and went forgotten quickly. We would definitely recommend it and hope to go there again.

Don't bother looking further if you're looking for the best hotel on Koh Lanta, the Pimalai is it.

I'm not going to list the good things about the hotel (it's just great), but here are the negatives:
- the food & beverages prices are a rip-off. There isn't much around either and the few restaurants available have somewhat adjusted to the Pimalai and are also charging around 50% more than similar restaurants in the rest of Thailand.
- the S in SLH stands for "small". There is nothing small about the Pimalai, I think they've split the resort in 2 with a total of 140 rooms.

Breakfast is also something really special.

Planes, buses and boats......but worth the effort to get to. A stunning location. The staff are friendly (the spa's head honcho lady a bit of a dragon, but means no harm!)
Stayed in a hillside villa. Was incredible accommodation, secluded and everything thought out to make the stay enjoyable. Food was lovely and amazingly good value, and of course you have the freedom to wander to neighbouring establishments.
The only disappointment was the main restaurant, which was not living up to its supposed reputation, just not up to the spec of a luxury hotel...(a surprise give the GM is French!) We only ate there the once, so maybe it was a one off. I'd go back again

Room Tip: The hillside villas are stunning....ask for one that you can see the sunset from. They are set up in...

We just booked a return visit, got a great deal again with Andaman Adventures, significantly lower-priced than Agoda and the hotel website, plus we don't have to pay all-up in advance. We came here a couple of months ago as part of a beach holiday with the same agency, that time we visited several islands but for the next trip we will spend the whole time at Pimalai. Everything about this place is just spot-on, from the food, the smiles, the lovely rooms, the low density, the extensive grounds and of course the great and almost empty beach - it isn't a private beach but it feels like one.

Room Tip: Get an upstairs Deluxe near the sea - our agency Andaman Adventures asked for one for us and it appe...

This hotel is extremely well run, the attention to detail is outstanding. The grounds are beautifully kept, the staff are friendly, helpful and polite. The setting is second to none, the infinity pools over looking the sea are stunning. The shaded "double beads" on the beach front are a lovely feature to enjoy the sunset with a cocktail. The beach itself is very clean.

At first we thought the journey to the hotel would be a nuisance but in actual fact it added to the experience. The Pimilai has a fleet of pristine speed boats with professional, immaculately presented crew. The boat transfer to the hotel was an enjoyable excursion in itself.

The room was clean and had everything we needed. The surrounding vegetation made you feel like you were in the jungle, yet still with a wonderful view of the sea.

Breakfast was excellent, Eggs Benedict and other A La Carte items made to order, all complimented by an amazing view over the bay. Noodle soup by the pool in the afternoon was great for a light Thai lunch.

Kayaks, wind surfers and a small catamaran were available for guest use free of charge which we thoroughly enjoyed. Helps to break up a busy day or lazing around!

A short walk down the beach was a rough and ready eccentric beach bar called "Why Not Bar". They had live music by local guys most evenings which was a lot of fun. Welcoming staff and cocktails with very healthy measures!

My only criticism is that the Spa is slightly overpriced but it does look pretty amazing. The hotel bars and restaurants were quiet as it was low season but this is to be expected everywhere.

Overall this is a very beautiful and quiet place for extreme relaxation. We only stayed for 3 nights out of our overall trip, we wish we had stayed much longer. Having stayed in numerous hotels around the world, we would say this is hands down the best we have ever stayed in.

Spent two nights in a poolvilla up on the hill.

Stunning views. Lot's of smiling staff - making you feel welcomed. The area around the spa is very charming. The rooms were also spacious and nice.

The food served via room service was the only disappointment.

A beautiful resort and spa built into the mountain. Rooms vary from from beachside to the mountaintop! We had a beautiful, peaceful villa right on the beach. It was very spacious, clean and well designed. We had two sun loungers on a terrace where we watched the sun go down... Amazing! The restaurants serve beautiful food particularly the seven seas restaurant. The infinity pools are tranquil and peaceful with stunning views of the bay. There are also very good local restaurants and bars within a short walk to either side of the resort. A tour operater is located at kantiang bayview restaurant and will organise all your tours of koh lanta and the surrounding islands at a reasonable price. We had a wonderful stay here and would definitely recommend.
