Take your scooter and ride to old town. Go all the way through town past the pier and keep going til you get to the very end of the road. Here you'll find Caoutchoac. Beautifully built in a modern yet natural style overlooking the water, we escaped the heat with a scooter ride here nearly every day of our stay on Lanta. Patou is an amazing frenchman who has travelled the world with fabulous stories and stunning photography to prove it and he epitomizes the word hospitality. His menu changes daily and is super unique and fresh. It might be a few bhat more than you're used to paying but it's a nice change from a lot of the other food you'll get when travelling and so so worth it. There's books and board games, coffee and booze, hammocks inside and deck chairs on the water outside. And the whole time a soundtrack is playing that makes you ask "who is this?" an annoying amount of times. Sigh. Writing this makes me want to click my heels and go back!

This is an amazing place. Not only is the location exceptionel with fantastic views, but the interior - and exterior - is fantastic. Casual, colorful and cool with lots of personality.
Food - Patous salads and Zac's barbeque etc. is delicious, drinks are good, and company fantastic.
This is a small hidden gem.

Me and my girlfriend were recommended this place by jewellers just outside old town. So off we went, as you turn down the road you think you've been sent the wrong way. But at the end is a slice of heaven created by Patrick. There's no menu there, you're just told by Patrick what's fresh on the day, which I love. First day had amazing salads and a bottle of champagne. Relaxed all day on the deck by the sea, with lovely music and Patrick entertaining us with his stories. Second time we went had some amazing Thai food. It was definitely my favourite bar/food/chill out area in Thailand, and would definitely go back if i was in thailand. One of the highlights of the island/holiday.

Relaxed cafes with intelligent people, intelligent music and relaxed craziness is very hard to find while you are on the road...
Just found one place... Caoutchouc in Old Town on Ko Lanta.

Here you get a menu you understand and is delicious. Fantastic terrasse where you can chill on a mattress to the sunrise with a shake or a drink or both.

We have traveled in Thailand in 20 years - and these days we go there several times a year. So trust me - there are not many places like Caoutchouc...

Caoutchouc is a quaint little restaurant set in a small fishing village on the island of Koh Lanta Yai. Its owned and operated by the most awesome guy Patou who after spending years running clubs and bars in the states retired here and opened his own place. Something I think we can all strive for.
It has a great ambiance, a spectacular view and its very cozy with its hammocks and lanterns lined about inside the restaurant. You can grab a cold beer and sit out back on the deck soaking up the rays, watching the fishing boats go in and out and just enjoying the view!
The food is amazing!!! You must try Patous famous salad bowl or if you want to stick to a traditional Thai dish try the amok or curry. There is no menu so just ask Patou what hes cooking up. You could spend hours here talking it up with the locals or other world travelers.
Patou has some pretty funny and interesting stories and hell keep you entertained for hours.
Time seems to stand still here and I promise youll never want to leave. So if you are planning a trip to Koh Lanta you must make a stop at this cozy little restaurant at the "end of the world".
