Usual set of courses and guiding available - think all up to Divemaster. Nitrox available on request, but if your dive used a shared boat that's not the usual Palm Beach one, you'll probably not get your Nitrox, so check if that's what you want to dive with.

Good standard of equipment, so if your visit isn't specifically for diving, don't bother bringing your own kit. Prices are reasonable and on par with the area.

All of the dive operations in the area do morning dives only, typically two and usually leaving about 7.30am and back about 2pm, including the boat journey, dives and surface interval. Breakfast before the first dive (fruit and toast and some scrambled egg) and lunch after the second, on the way back (Thai curry and other bits & pieces). All included in the price, with all soft drinks, etc.

Tripadvisor Palm Beach Divers

Excellent experience with Palm Beach Divers. I have over 100 dives, mostly in tropical waters and needed 2 specialties to complete my Master Scuba Diver (currently on special offer, without additional fee, via downloadable voucher on the PADI website until the end of December). I completed my Shark Awareness with Jesse and my Digital Underwater Photography with Lise, co-owner of the dive school, both excellent. I was with my daughter who completed her PADI Open Water, having done her eLearning in the UK, with 1 on 1 sessions with Klaus, very thorough. The whole experience, including subsequent fun dives over the course of the week, was of a highly professional, well managed outfit with a strong emphasis on safety yet with a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Lee does an excellent job as General Manager and is a really great guy professionally and socially. Email in advance with any queries, he's very helpful. If you do a course you get 10% off subsequent dives and, I think, equipment purchased. Pan is great at pointing out tiny creatures one might not spot and finding black tip reef sharks!

I understand they would normally have a RIB on the beach to take divers out to the 'big boat' moored in the bay but the engine had been ripped off the RIB in a storm last week and took 3 days to find, it then had to go to Bangkok for repairs but I think ended up getting replaced. This would have saved at least 1/2hr in the mornings. As it was we were transferred to Saladan to get the 'big boat', which was fine. It's hardly Palm Beach Divers' fault that the weather was so bad the week before! It was warm & sunny the whole week we were there. The 'big boat' was relaxed and easy, even when full (by amalgamating with other dive outfits) there seemed to be plenty of room & it did not feel crowded. We did 2 dives per day with lunch provided in between along with freely available Coke, Sprite and fresh pineapple and melon. I had thought of booking with a school running a speedboat especially to cut down the trip to Hin Daeng and Hin Muang to about 11/2 hrs (from about 3hrs) but as the sea was a little choppy that day I'm glad I didn't, it would have been very bouncy and tiring. Why does every outfit seem to go there the same day ie Wednesday, although this actually suited our timetable perfectly? Sadly we did not see Manta nor Whale Shark, although they have been seen recently. When I told Lee I had seen five Manta there when diving from Krabi, he accurately told me it must have been December 2005, which it was, to the day!

We stayed at (Nakara) Long Beach Resort, which is excellent, next door ie 3 mins walk on the beach and forms a separate Tripadvisor report. Book direct by negotiation via email after getting prices on Agoda etc.

We chose Palm Beach Divers because they are a 5 star PADI Instructor's Training Dive School in the middle of Long Beach, so about 10 mins from Saladan by car, bike or tuk-tuk. Having said that, there was really no need to go to Saladan, apart from getting the boat as above. There are mini-marts, ATMs etc along the road and great place to eat, drink and get massaged along the beach.

We had an excellent trip, thanks to the guys & gals at Palm Beach Divers!
