Owner description: Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW) is a non-profit organization based on Ko Lanta. LAW's objective is to rehabilitate suffering and sick animals on the island through sterilisation and care. We are open to visitors everyday from 9am to 5pm and our volunteer staff will happily provide a guided tour of the center every hour, on the hour, between 10am and 4pm. We have lots of friendly dogs who would love a long walk and cats who would like a cuddle! (Please note there is generally no dogwalking between 11-3 as it gets too hot for them!). The dogs spend their days in grassy outdoor pens, so like everywhere in Thailand, it's best to wear insect/mosquito repellant when visiting. Our major sponsor is Time For Lime bar, restaurant and cooking school, without their valuable support we would not be here.

“LAW is an amazing place doing amazing things!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

I have just returned from a month long trip around Thailand volunteering and visiting various animal rescues and sanctuaries. Wow, so many needy animals but also so many caring people putting their time, energy and love into the cause. It was truly inspiring!

I had the pleasure of spending a few days at LAW walking and cuddling some of their many great dogs and cats. We started off with a tour of the facility and were were introduced to all of the dogs and shown how things were run. These guys have it dialed! They are so well organized and it really works.

I was thoroughly impressed by the relaxed and happy atmosphere here at the shelter. The animals are well cared for healthy and mellow even though some have experienced unfathomable things in their short lives.

It seems one of the keys to the success of LAW is keeping the number of animals in the shelter at a reasonable level. In order to keep saving more animals these ones need to move on and be adopted into their forever homes. LAW makes animal adoptions incredibly easy and has most animals up to date with shots and ready to travel to at short notice. They also have the knowledge and skills to help with transporting your new pal back home with you.

If you are in Koh Lanta you should make a stop at Lanta Animal Welfare a part of your plans.
If you aren't ready for the commitment of adoption or longer term volunteering, help with walks and belly rubs is always appreciated!!!

Thanks to all of the volunteers and Time for Lime restaurant for making this place amazing!

“Love, love, love”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

Me and my husband went to visit LAW. We were amazed by this place. The volunteers really take an interest in the animals that live there. The animals are taken very well care of: cats walk around freely during day time, and only get locked in the spacious, comfortabel "cat house" during the night. The dogs live in 4 packs and each pack has a lot of space to run around in day time. They are also being walked regularly. You can adopt a cat or à dog and LAW helps you with the adoption process. LAW does not get any financial governmental support so all animal friends please go there and help them out by either volunteering, adopting or by giving a donation.

“Wonderful Place”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

My family visited LAW on our recent visit to Thailand and it is an amazing place! They do really great work there and you can walk the puppies and play with the animals. They have setup an adoption process that makes it very easy to adopt an animal and take it home to your country. They also have a restaurant called Time For Lime where we took a Thai cooking class that donates the proceeds to Lanta Animal Welfare. The food was amazing and the instructor so much fun!

“Worth the Visit”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

My wife and I visited the centre during a short break to Koh Lanta in April. Its great to see set ups like this one - trying to help to the local animals via vet care - including much needed sterilisations - and by rehoming of all the animals they can. Aso cool to see many of the dogs have been adopted into countries all over the world (except of course for those of us from the agri tough countries of NZ and Aus...). Leave a good tip - you can be guarenteed it will be used to help the animals and will not be squirrled away into beuracracy like so much else in Thailand would be!
