“Shanty looking bungalows priced far above what they deliver”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

Baan Rim Lay is a set of a few bungalows located directly on the beach. The place (it's hard to call it a resort) is ran by a very friendly family, who rather don't speak English, but are very happy and eager to talk to their guests anyway. The bungalows look pretty much like slums on the outside, however are pretty OK inside - they are kept very clean and are equipped with air con and fridge. The owner also runs a tourist information, where you can have your laundry done, rent a motorbike or book a boat or a bus.

The biggest drawback was the price for the quality we got - we booked online, so didn't really know what the place looked like in reality - otherwise we wouldn't have stayed here for that price - it was 6x more than much better looking bungalows next door (however they didn't have AC, but still, AC is not worth paying 6x more).

Also, the breakfast included in the price was very poor - standard toasts, butter and jam plus cold eggs, sausages and ham - we would expect them at least to be warm.

To sum up, this place is not very bad, but it's heavily overpriced.

Room Tip: Avoid bungalows without direct beach access, they have a horrible location

we went expecting a good place to stay from reviews that we read. from the moment we arrived, the reception area is just a bench by a sign on the edge of the road. the best rooms are good and on the edge of the beach , the other rooms which we had booked i would not offer to anyone. they are small with internal bathroom. with no air vents. they are kept clean but that is about all. the exterior is like sitting in a tip, with rubbish everywhere.the sunbed on the beach is poor. the seat covers were torn and the sunshade broken and rusted. it blew off in a breeze, the shade given was totally non existent. ..I have been to thailand many times and this is the worst place I have ever seen.

Room Tip: go somewhere ese. try the nature resort, up the road

We stayed at Baan Rim Lay for 6 days and loved every day of it. The rooms are excellent and we stayed in the bungalow right on the beach. It's very clean and there is lots of space. We were picked up at the pier by Mr. Pong and withing 20 minutes you are there. The family of Mr. Pong is lovely and helpful, very nice people. For food you pick some of the restaurants on the beach because you can't eat at the place itself but that is no problem. For breakfast you get a coupon that you just hand over in the restaurant. The beach was quiet and every morning the deck chairs are brought out and the beach was cleaned.

One tip, be careful when you walk from the road to the bungalows because the roof of one of the bungalows is rather low and you can easily hit your head. I know from experience!

Room Tip: We had the bungalow at the far right end which is next to a restaurant, it could be that you hear so...

We loved this place! The couple who owned it were so lovely. The friendly husband picked us up from the ferry and was trying so hard to help us with as much advice as possible on the way home. His wife was lovely too - very friendly! She apologised for our room being small but we loved it, it was a gorgeous little cottage (we were in one of the older style rooms). It was so clean, they take such great care and pride in their place, it was humbling to see how hard they work and how beautiful it all was. You walk down to the beach and each unit has its own loungers with umbrella and table. Compared to other places we stayed in, we were amazed at how everything you could possibly need is here. e.g. they have 2 massive umbrellas in the cupboard in case of rain, the personal loungers, loads of personal lines to hang your wet togs etc, hairdryer, loads of things that were very helpful. They have their own scooter for hire which was a lovely gold one too, we felt very flash driving it round! You get the scooter from when you hire it e.g. 10am until 10am the next day which is nice, you could go out the night that you have it to somewhere else for dinner or something rather than having to rush back. The beach is one of the best on lanta and is surrounded by lovely places to eat - spoiled for choice at good prices too. I recommend heading out the front door of Baan Rim Lay and turning right down the road - the 2 best places to eat are closeby in that direction (best prices, lovely owners and trendiest decor also - they have cool sand floors or you can even eat on the beach). Our stay was quiet, peaceful, and idyllic. Book for longer - we had 2 nights and were so sad to leave. They also dropped us back to the ferry no problems.

Room Tip: The older style cottages are lovely! We were concerned at having one of the non- 'done up' o...

No place is even close to Mr Poongs Baan Rim Lay if you gonna stay in Lanta.
The price is good, its clean, Mr Poong and his family makes you feel like you are more than just a guest, friendly at all times.
The location couldnt be better. Right on the perfect beach, you got your own private sun bed ten steps from your front door on the beach which is one of the best on the island.
The next door restaurant is one of the best and most freindly on Klong Nin.

All in all, I got nothing bad to say after been staying here 3 years in a row on my travels in south Thailand. If it wasnt for Mr Poong and his friendly family I would have kept this gem a secret, but they are worth every single Baht at all times.

Room Tip: 2 better class rooms and 3 more budget style rooms, but very price worthy...

We love Khlong Nin and had returned and found everywhere pretty booked out and lo and behold there was Mr Pong, so helpful and so we moved in. Behind the two beach front posh villas are 3 smaller fan cooled bungalows with cold water showers and we were lucky enough to get the one at the front. It's all about location....just steps to the sand and your own sunbeds and umbrellas, just wonderful. But also the family feeling is special... Mr and Mrs Pong are there everyday and were super helpful and kind and the place was a gem. Clean, safe and quiet, comfy bed and hammock under the trees. There's a restaurant next door called Sunset which we ended up having nearly all our meals in for 9 days....couldnt beat it for location, ambience and the owner was great fun.
Will definitely return to Baan Rim Lay......

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms in total....2 posh ones and 3 not so posh....doesnt matter which one it will depen...
