We spent five nights here, and although the August weather was not great, the location made up for it. Right on an excellent swimming beach, the accommodation was basic but for 600 Baht per night, who cares. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean. Cold showers, but in that temperature actually quite refreshing. Food in the bar was excellent, cooked by Daniel, an Englishman, and his staff. The service was great, very friendly people! Outside the rooms in the resort, it was a bit shabby, but it is low season. I know that in high season the whole of Klongnin beach area is jumping and a lot tidier by then. Koh Lanta Is a great place for hiring a scooter, and Ottos is right in the middle. A perfect place for exploring from. Recommended, and hopefully will be back in one day.

We spent five nights at Otto's Bungalows. They are very basic (like a lot of similar accommodation in Thailand) - just a bed, a table and mirror and a rack for your suitcases. The bed was comfortable, the aircon worked well and it was clean. However the bathroom was a bit of a let down - there is no hot water at all. This is not a major problem as its so hot anyway, but its nice to have the option. Also the water pressure was literally no more than a trickle from the sink tap (would take 10 seconds to fill your hand with water), and the shower head itself was leaking from the join so water went all over. But that's the only complaint about this place.
The restaurant "Otto's bar and grill" serves the most amazing food, both Thai and European. There is a different chef for each, and it shows. Between us (group of 6) we tried most things on the menu, and everything from the full english breakfast to the pad thai is just superb. Two standout dishes for me were the "Fried fish of the day in Tamarind sauce" and the banana fritters. The bar/restaurant is located right on the beach, and is very chilled. All the staff are helpful and friendly, and Otto himself is always around to have a chat with.
Back to the accommodation part - the lady at reception is called Yok, and she is amazingly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Like many places, she is able to book tours and excursions, but the difference is that she gives honest advice and recommendations, and is not just trying to get your money. She also has several scooters for immediate rental. We used one and it was fine - not the newest but at least we felt comfortable renting from her knowing that we hadn't yet paid the room bill so she wasn't going to try any of the scam tricks we had read about.
There are not really any facilities apart from the accommodation and the bar/restaurant, so perhaps not ideal for kids and anyone with a disability (there is no step-free access to the beach), but the location is great, and you can literally be in the sea within 20 seconds of leaving your room.
Wifi is free and works well, and you can get it wherever you are. They will also give you the password of the wifi next door in case you do run out of signal (only happened to us once) which is a nice touch, and very much appreciated.
If I was to rate the accommodation only, I would give it 3 stars max for the price. However, the service, friendliness, location, atmosphere and the bar/restaurant make up for it. We would stay here again without any hesitation, and with just a few minor improvements it could be even better.

Room Tip: The sea facing bungalow we had is great, but not much different from the room our friends had which...

Based on a quick internet search, we decided to visit Otto's Bar and Grill on Koh Lanta. We had a fantastic evening there as we ate on wooden table and benches directly on the beach, the sound of waves as background music.

The restaurant offers a mix of Thai and European food but as always in Thailand, we went for local food as ingredients are fresh and knowledge of specific cuisine on average much higher. The taste was amazing, it was one of the best Thai food we had in Thailand (probably about 30 lunches and dinners together). I would particularly recommend the mixed vegetables in oyster sauce, which isn't original I agree, but realisation was awesome. Same for the garlic beef, its was crunchy and fresh. We had those dishes many times, but can without doubt say that Otto's ones were the best.

Service was ok, we did waited a little long given the few people that were in the restaurant and they did forget our starter order at first, but we had time and delay was outbalanced by the quality of food.

We stayed in Sunset bungalows nearby but I'd definitely choose Otto's place next time I'm on Lanta. We visited Otto's restaurant several times and the Italian food they serve was just perfect!! We enjoyed it so much! Friendly stuff, nice interior and amazing atmosphere give more occasion to visit Otto's! I'm sure their bungalows are nice as well!

After a lot of Thai food, my son was happy to stumble up on a many with burgers and other European dishes.

We ordered both Thai dishes and cheeseburgers and everything was lovely.

If you go there later in the evening, don't expect a quiet meal - as they tend to play music quite loud - I guess to attract younger customers.

Me and my girlfriend arrived here and hadn't booked beforehand - but they had one spare room. It was 800baht which was a little more than we wanted to pay, but it was a family room which was massive with two bedrooms and air con.

On the second night we moved to a single small hut, which was practically on the beach front. The view was amazing. Although we didn't have air con (which was a struggle with just a fan, admittedly), but it only cost 400baht a night and the stay made up for it.

There isn't hot water, so it isn't a luxury stay, but it's so hot outside you don't really need it. Reasonably clean, but best to have mosquito spray.

Otto bar had a free pool table, helpful and friendly staff, tasty food (little more pricey than some other places along the beach) but you can just step out onto the beach and take a walk along and there are a selection of lovely places. There are also two really sweet children who want to play games!

Jai Dee is a few bars along on the right, and had good cheap food with a lovely relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. The place next door on the right has a Thai cooking school which looked good but we didn't try out. But the food was lovely and the main guy was really fun.

Klong Nin Beach is further south from the main port (about 15mins in a cab) - which seemed full of more expensive resorts - but this part was ideal for us. At points you have a section of the beautiful beach to yourself. It's calm, relaxed, and the sunset is beautiful. We stayed an extra night and couldn't recommend this part of Koh Lanta more.

It's not for partying - although there's one bar that holds late night techno parties with cheap sangsom buckets and all.

As for the travel - we got a flight from Bangkok to Krabi, and the only option seemed to be getting a minibus to Koh Lanta. There were several stops and the driver didn't seem to enjoy safe driving (much to the distress of a hilarious Australian traveller "Sir, if you don't slow down, we will get out!")

Takes a fair while to get there, and everyone else had booked when they got there. We took a walk and the first couple of places were fully booked, but then we came across Otto which luckily had that spare room and the staff at the booking office were really friendly and helpful.

If you want a relaxing, idyllic and happy stay, this is for you.
