“Dorms. Or rather, "dorms".”
Reviewed March 30, 2014 via mobile

I wanted to like this place. Cute, quaint, charming. Super close to the beach. All the good parts you read about in the other reviews. However, the new "dorms" have a few issues... there are no walls. Those Thai restaurants on the beach, with no walls anywhere? It's like that, but with beds. They've hung up a few tarps, but there's huge gaps in their coverage, which results in a few issues: there is a construction site next door that leaves flood lamps on all night... this light pours into the dorms. When construction starts in the morning (at 7 am!) the noise is really loud. Speaking of the morning, if you thought the flood lamps were bad, the rising sun is pretty much impossible to sleep through. The noise at night, from nearby bars, while not nearly as bad as the daytime noise, can be annoying. Oh, and if the bathroom is busy, it's really hard to get changed, since the construction workers and other guests can all see right into your 'bedroom'. If all this doesn't phase you too much, it is really cheap and includes breakfast. :)

We stayed here for 7 nights after our other hotel was over booked and they put us somewhere really grotty. We were lucky to find this as most of the island was booked up.

The double height bungalows are cute little places, like tree houses. Be aware you are pretty much at one with nature here! We stayed on the ground floor room, no.9. The rooms are decent sized and they all have a mosquito net and en suite bathroom - which is bright and cheerfully decorated with a gravel bit on one side and plants, making it almost like a bathroom in the jungle.

There is a small dressing table with mirror and that's about it for places to put things. There are some nails and bits hurting it on the wood where you can creatively hang things. Really that wasn't adequate at all. They could have easily fired an open rail with shelf and maybe even a small set of drawers in the alcove next to where the dressing table was. We dotted toiletries and other bits around on ledges in the wood frame of the hut. The matress is really hard, those used to soft sleeping will have to get used to it! The terrible thing about the fact you are at one with nature, in a wooden hut with nowhere to hang anything is that the place had termites and where I had my clothes hung up against the wood, they thought my clothes were a cosy home and tasty bite to eat. One pretty sequin top was a total write off and the lining of one dress was left with a big hole. The lady who co ran the resort (not mama) didn't offer to pay for it at all. In fact we had to spend out further to get some strong insecticide to kill them which was not reimbursed either. Those huts won't last long, they are literally being eaten from the ground up.

The shower in the bathroom is pretty pathetic to be honest, a bit of a dribble rather than shower. We mostly had cold Showers as it was so hot, which was lucky since they didn't really get hot anyway, and any kind of heat packed up completely after the power was cut off from the entire island for a day.

The room wasn't cleaned at all and the sheets and towels not changed. I think if you ask they will do this but you shouldn't have to ask when staying that long. I cleaned the room myself with a broom obtained from a side bit of the resort.

The feel and social aspect of the resort itself I can't fault. They have an honesty bar, comfy seating area and nice grounds. Generally this aspect was fantastic and because if this we had a lovely time here despite the problems.

The area is noisy and there's little protection from it. It wasn't every night though, but one night was very loud and went in till about 4am.

The wifi is excellent throughout the resort. Free And fast.

The staff are really nice if not a bit unhelpful when it comes to problems. Like, They didn't really say much when the power went out (by the way, there's no water either when the power fails! Meaning no toilet etc) On our last morning or ride to the ferry didn't turn up so they took us in their own tuktuk at break neck speed to get its there in time!

You are very close to a lovely beach, a few shops and lots of restaurants/cafes along the beach and up on the road. I recommend the juices in the little booth next to the beach, about a minute walk away. My fave is mango, banana and coconut mixed shake. Yum! If you like spicy food here, you have do do a lot of persuasion too get it. As they are used to catering for felang.. which means westerners. You have to tell them Thai spicy! Saladan is good for food, a little street food area at night and waterside restaurants. You can get a tuk tuk for 150 bhat.

Word of warning, with all their good intentions of wanting to teach Thai cooking there at the resort, don't! Bless them they tried but they're not set up for it, they don't teach pastes and it wasn't worth the 1000 we paid! Go to a proper cooking school...

Long beach is ok, I was abit disappointed at how spaced out everything was. Long beach road is very long, you wouldn't want to walk it, it is a drive in between slightly built up areas for restaurants. Go to saladan for more life and shopping, but wouldnt stay in saladan. I think klong nin would be better for feeling a bit more intimate as an are. Loads more I could say about the area but I could be here for ages!

I will try to be as fair to the owner as I can - There was constant noise/live music all night every night that made sleep impossible. I realize the owner could not control this as was not on the property but close to it. But what was really awful was that there was no management of the property at all with regard to noise all night long from partying on the property. We made a huge mistake booking at leaf house and were overcharged also. It is very close to the beach but the constant noise made the experience unbearable.

Room Tip: don't go there unless you are young and really want to party 24/7

These bungalows are not hotel standard so if You're looking for that kind of standard (super clean, air conditioning) than it's not the place.
still I really reccomend this play to stay in Ko Lanta.

Bungalows are "nature style" - perfect for couples with one big bed inside which really takes most of the room inside. Bungalows are made of wooded elements so walls are not "solid". Still really it makes a nice atmposphere inside.

Resort got a nice communal area when You get breakfest, can have a beer and chat (it's a perfect hideway in shadow - a retreat if You don't want to spend whole day on a beach).

apart from that localization is perfect, near the beach, walking distance from some beach bars if You want some action.
If not You can enjoy everything near the bungalows. still - bargain for everything - the owner - "mama" is very nice but knows how to run her business :)

We stayed there for 10 days and I would without hesitation book here again for next year. Amazing friendly staff (they speak basic english but its enough to get by), clean rooms (with ensuite in every room), fan in room, power points for chargers, there is a really good communal area where you can read, chat to fellow guests, sip a beer from the fridge (theres an honesty book - they trust you to write down what you have taken).
Also you can book your onward journey with the staff, or book anything like scooters, daytrips etc.
And for the price I don't think you can get better. Oh and the beach is about 20 metres away.

When we first arrived we were disappointed with our room as it was right next to where everyone parks their bikes. Guests would come home at all hours and park right next to where our bed was. We asked to be moved which they agreed but in two days time when there was availability. After two days we were so relaxed there we couldn't be bothered to move our stuff so I think it was mainly us needing to unwind into island life.

The complex is small and cosy which we liked with only 12 rooms. Breakfast was basic but very nice and was included in the room rate which you don't get everywhere.

It's a family run business and although they are very accommodating be patient as they don't tend to rush. That being said breakfast is served until 10 but if you're late they still serve whatever you ask for so you take the good with the bad.

On the whole a very relaxed experience of island life right next to the beach but far enough to get away if you want an early night.

We had a good look around the whole island and disregarding the 5 star resorts (which cost a small fortune) I have to say I think we were lucky to have picked Leaf house. Great location and good atmosphere. They need to make a little more effort on the housekeeping but did change towels and clean the room on request. Would definitely stay there again.

The Leaf House looks nice, but while we stayed there a lot of thing went wrong. First of all when we arrived we were overbooked. We got a downgrade, and we still had to insist to get some money back. It still wasn't enough to be the price of the downgrade room. The rooms weren't cleaned. I heared a customer say she took a broom on her on and whiped the floor in her bungalow. There was a power break for hours, so no fan (hot!), no water. The staff is really hard to communicate with, they don't speak english very well and not really trying to understand you. The breakfast is basic, toast with eggs, okay for one day but no more. One couple we saw left Leaf House earlier because there was a huge rat in their bathroom. The staff didn't really respond to it, no excuses, no solutions. It looks like a nice place at first sight but still some stuff to work on. For a little more money I think you can get a much better place to stay (we paid 1250 baht)
