We went to Neng on recommendation of our hotel owner and it really is a hidden gem. The first night I had the best and by far most fresh Tom Yam I've ever head.

After chatting to the lovely owner of Neng he invited us back the next day for a traditional Thai lunch (his style) and off menu which was incredible and all for 200 bht.

Neng's has been a fixture in our neighborhood for longer than i have lived here;
although i don't eat there very often (as a local, i prefer more authentic fare***)
i have eaten there a few times, and have sent people there
( i own a nearby restaurant serving western food,
so i have referred people there for Thai food & never heard a complaint
-especially since most travelers can not handle "too authentic"***-
also several hotels who don't have their own restaurant refer people to Neng's)
the food is good, always fresh, w/good portions, nice specials, reasonable value for money
& smiling gregarious service in a covered outdoor patio w/view of jungle-covered
mountains and coconut palm trees and nice wooden tables & chairs;
usually once a week during high season, they feature a live band or solo artists-
a nice place to spend an evening grooving to tunes, soaking up beverages,
and "getting your grub on"

***(NOTE: my experience from 3+ years of living here is that few travelers know
about real authentic Thai food, nor do they really want to experience it;
also many seem to be scared off by the "funky/rustic"
look of most of the local resident fave spots- most times when i would send people to
more authentic local places, they would come back w/complaints such as
"they didn't have Pad Thai" [which we seldom, if ever, eat]- or
"they just had the food sitting there in pots, didn't cook it fresh"
-but that's how we do it here in Thailand, especially curry shops which are
the local hangs- i wish i could review some of our faves, but most don't even have a name!!!)

but Neng's is perfectly ok for travelers,
better than some others that are (inexplicably) more highly rated on this island;
as a plus, they are also open during much of the low season as well...
you may not wildly rave afterwards, but you also won't be disappointed

I love good food, call me a foodie if you must. Unfortunately this was just your standard Thai food. We all know what that is, it's fine but that's all. The same stuff you get everywhere, no better, no worse, not memorable but not bad. An alright meal.

I ordered the specials on every visit and wasn't disappointed.They are unique and a welcome change from usual Thai food served to tourists.

We had been recommended Neng's Restaurant by a fellow traveller as somewhere to try while on Lanta and so decided to give it a go.

We found the food to be reasonably priced, of good quality and very friendly customer service.

We enjoyed it so much that we went back a number of times and have and will certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Lanta.
