What an absolute rip off. In the entire evening course we were allowed to stir a curry, turn satay chicken over on a griddle pan, chop 1 bean and half a tomato! The 'chef' did all the cooking and we were allowed to watch and then taste it. His English was Ok but was very quiet and just talked to 1 or 2 people, so you either kept having to ask him to repeat himself, or you didn't know what was going on. You were provided with a photocopy of the recipe being made but it didn't replicate the actual dish being produced.
The brochure states you will be eating your food on the beach but this is not the case as apparently the local government no longer allow this. Every course was eaten separately in the restaurant where you were 'invited' to purchase drinks at the bar. You would then return to watch the chef cook another dish before returning to the bar area where you could again buy drinks. It seemed like a con to get you to spend a fortune in the bar. Far more time was spent sitting around the table waiting than watching the chef. Luckily I wasn't there on my own otherwise I would have felt a spare part seeing as everyone was in couples.
Many courses take you to look at fresh produce at the market - this course shows you a basket with some herbs and ingredients in it.
To top it off at the end of the evening you got a certificate stating the recipes you 'had made', but the put the wrong meals on ours!
Having been on several thai cookery courses before in Thailand, I can state this is the biggest rip off i've unfortunately paid for. You scarcely make anything, and the actual food made is acceptable but nothing special. On a positive - the nearby beach is nice, as was the air-conditioned transfer!
