Front desk were very abrupt and insistent on the payment of an extra bed charge, which had not been discussed at booking..The hotel was very quiet, and the place is very spread out, with big hills, so it is unsuitable for children. The staff were too busy talking amongst themselves to provide any service at both the pool bar and the restaurant. The pool access rooms are extremely close, so whilst the pictures make it look like you have your own piece of pool, you are actually sitting right next to your neighbour, it is a gimmick which we would rather not had. We were very happy to be leaving, not the experience we wanted

Me and my husband stayed 4 nights here in mid October. We stayed in one of the “ocean private pool rooms”: if you’re planning to stay at this resort, then ensure that you stretch your budget and stay in one of these rooms as these are fantastic. The room is quite spacious, and the pool and views, just glorious.
Resort is located upon a hill top, with beautiful views of the ocean and with private access to a small strip of rocky beach - which we didn’t mind at all as it provided us with a secluded and relaxing setting to spend a quiet afternoon reading a book, and enjoing the sound of the ocean, as an alternative to lounging in our room’s pool.
The resort is largish, and one would expect it to be busy during the high season – not so while we were there in October – not a bad thing for us as we prefer a quiet setting.
Although we didn’t use the main pool, the setting there is quite nice with a bar and veranda & seating with overlooking of sea-views. We did have a cocktail drink at the bar, but unfortunately it was a bit of a letdown, as the drinks that we ordered, when they finally arrived , tasted more like lolly water than a cocktail.
What lets this potentially great resort down is the service and food quality. Breakfast fare was not as varied as we’ve seen at other resorts, and more disappointingly the actual quality of the food did not meet expectations as neither did the service: for example, we waited a long time for waiter to refill our coffee cups, eventhough the place was almost empty and staff wasn’t doing anything at all, just standing back. Dinner wasn’t much better, ordered food, although not cheap, was of poor quality , and service just as poor: the waiting staff, while removing the plates from our first dish took the fork & knife implements from our plates and placed them on the table instead of removing them and bringing fresh cutlery with the next dish- unseen in any other restaurants, where more than one single pair of cutlery is normally provided. We only ate here the one time & then opted to eat in Saladan town, only 5 minutes away by car. (ate at the Black Pearl –would recommend this for quality fresh food reasonably priced).
I should also mention that slippers are provided in the room, but these were not new at all -imagine wearing someone elses slippers -thanks but no thanks (One other resort, of 3 others that we stayed in during our holiday in Thailand, did provide com-plimentary slippers , brand new & sealed in plastic). Slighly off-putting was also the presence of mould under the silicon-sealant of the bathroom wash basin (this would be an easy fix for management to carry out).

We also had an instance that could have turned into a quite embarrassing situation when, unexpectantly, one of the ground staff, without any notice to us, entered our private pool area (I guess not so private after all), accessing it by crossing over the fenced wall, to clean the pool of fallen leaves. Luckly we were fully dressed & indoor and he did not see us during the 60 seconds that he took to clean the surface of the water. Very poor arrangement, as the pool could have been cleaned (not that it needed cleaning) during the normal room cleaning times.
Due to the location of the resort, upon a hilltop, walking requires a bit of stamina due to the steep inclines. Resort does provide transportation by buggy from reception area to room. Buggy can also be requested at leasure to travel back down to reception area (we did not use this as saw walking the steep inclines as an excuse to exercise).
All in all we liked the surroundings and layout of the resort, with large well looked after gardens and great views of the sea , this place would be a hit if not for the poor service and poor quality food.

First time in ko lanta and we chose to stay at the crown lanta. pool access room was lovely with direct access to the pool from your terrace area. nice pool and room service food quality was fairly good i have to say. staff were very helpful with our needs and requests. breakfast buffet to be honest, leaves less to be desired. the water from the shower wasn't hot enough at night, it was just warm. but besides those 2 negatives, it was a lovely resort and a lovely stay.

the spa was nice and the 1-for-1 promotion on thursday is a steal! we did the 3hr blue romance package and it was lovely~~the path up to the cliffside pool, restaurant, breakfast is indeed very steep and may pose a problem for the elderly. but transport is available from the reception area upon request and is quite prompt. poolbar 1 for 1 happy hour 430-630pm.

Overall the resort was very quiet and peaceful. lovely place to just chill. you will need transport to get out to saladan town just outside, either by hotel shuttle, which is every hour or so, tuktuk which costs 50baht per person per way or rent a car if you plan to explore the island a bit like we did.

DO VISIT the black pearl seafood restaurant in Saladan and also Tides at Layana Resort. Highly recommended.

Beautiful hotel - one of the nicest on the island.

We had a pool access room which was amazing! The room itself was stunning! Clean, Modern, Very spacious and very luxurious.

The hotel grounds were well kept and it was a beautiful resort with gorgeous views.

However, as we went in low season, the hotel was extremely quiet and so had no atmosphere. It felt like we were the only people staying at the hotel!

The staff were very helpful and professional as was the tour/trip booking desk located in the lobby.

There was also free internet access in the lobby which was great!

The hotel also offered a free minibus service to the local town but this didn't run very frequently or until very late. However, it was still useful.

The food was great - lovely buffet-style breakfast with lots of choice and fresh food. The same restaurant was great for an evening meal too - very reasonably priced!

Downfalls: drinks at the bars are expensive (even from the pool bar during happy hour) as was the minibar in the rooms and the spa.

All in all a pleasant stay but which would have been much better in high season.

Sometimes you can just tell when you walk into a place, even a luxury resort, if the boss is on holiday. Sadly and frustratingly for us, we got that distinct impression throughout our whole stay at Crown Lanta.

The staff were visibly bored, lazy and we had trouble raising a smile from anyone who wasn't stationed at the front desk. We had to interrupt them from their magazines to order drinks, and prompt them 2,3,4 times for travel booking confirmations and answers to minor queries.

We stayed 3 nights in the Ocean Sunset Villa and yes, the sunset was amazing, but the trees were so overgrown that the view was greatly diminished. We had to move from our first villa because "rats had chewed through phone cables in the roof ", and when we were moved to our second villa, there was no running water...that is until this room flooded in the rain and saturated our bags. Apparently there was a broken seal on the door that hadn't been fixed. Dirty glasses from our room servicing were left outside our front door [by the maid] for over 24 hours, and during breakfast one of the waiters actually hoiked up and spat loudly into the bushes below from the balcony in front of our table. Totally disgusting.

We knew it was low season when we booked, and that Ko Lanta is a quieter island, but I really wished we had saved our money and stayed elsewhere. There's no doubt that the hotel is in a stunning location and I imagine that it would be a very different place to stay in high season - when the staff have a reason to bother.

The thing is, I don't need to be waited on hand and foot, nor do I have snobbish expectations, but I do feel strongly that when you pay more for a reputable service, you should receive it.

We loved this resort! The two beaches that can be easily reached by food are nice and clean-in contrast to some other beaches on the island in off-season. All beaches are really nice,
but it seems that off season, only Katiang bay and the beaches nearby Crown Lanta are properly cleaned. Most resorts on the island were closed in august, and some really nice beaches looked devasted and were full of dirt from the sea. However, we had great wheater, 7 days without rain, only blue skies and sun, it was amazing! The hotel is great! Amazing views from the cliff, great and huge pools, a great pool bar and very nice staff at the Spa. The only thing we didn't like was that there is not so much choice in the restaurant for dinner concerning Thai food (if you don't like it too spicy, it is hard to find something, most dishes are curries). But if you have a car or motorbike, there are many nice restaurants not to far away from the hotel.

First and foremost, since the first moment I entered the room I was sad because I knew I had to leave it at some point. The hotel web site does not reflect the reality at all. Me and my wife stayed there during our honeymoon, and when we checked the web site, we thought it is a nice place, and felt we had to compromise due to the high price tag of different hotels in the area. After we left the hotel we didn't had that feeling at all.
The hotel is located in Ko Lanta island quite close to the town and the ferry pier, if you insist you can of course walk there from the hotel, but I don't see the reason for doing that if the hotel offer free rides to and from the town center.
We took a deluxe room with a private pool. The room is very big with a huge shower, bath and what ever you wished a royal shower will include. The bed was big and comfortable with a big selection of pillows. The minibar was nicely equipped, and the prices were reasonable. The room also included a leaving room space with sofas, TV, and a small table, which was very comfortable. From the leaving room there is a glass door to the balcony. Outside the room on the small terrace the room main attraction is located. The private pool, and it is private. The pool is large enough for a couple. Around the pool was a small piece of grass with tropical vegetation surrounding it with trees as well. Because the room was located on a cliff, the view from the pool was the ocean, what can be better then that?
We used the hotel transportation service each time we needed, and it was effective and time saving. The reception were very kind and nice and did for us almost everything we asked for (including sending stuff from the kitchen or even WiFi card to our room with the car service, free of charge). The place where are room was located was next to the hotel Grand Villa (but far enough) so we had a very quiet and private stay. On the other side of the room a similar room was located, but we didn't felt/heard the couple staying there as well. There are two beaches located next to the hotel, one of them is the hotel private beach which had all the services a Thai beach can afford (including on the beach massage). The hotel restaurant was really nice, and the food was great, if somewhat expensive (as expected). The breakfast was excellent with a big buffet containing a variety of dishes. I saw that the hotel had a big pool as well, but never went there. We had such a good time, that in the last day we couldn't resist and booked another night in our room (luckily it was available).

Room Tip: If you can afford it, take a private ocean pool villa. Ask for the room facing the ocean, sunset sid...
