This place is great if you want to have a 5 star experience without the price tag. We got a deluxe spa room with a private pool and massage bed for about £80 a night!
The service was as you'd expect in Thailand - smiley, friendly and helpful most of the time. The main hotel pool tasted slightly salty - they use something odd in the water.
The food at breakfast was good but there is a great restaurant over the road where the food is great and half the price so dont eat at the hotel.
The rooms were to die for.. the private pool was a real treat and the jacuzzi bath too.. the bed was the softest I had in Thailand - which is notorious for its hard beds!
Its a bit out of the way and not too near a beach but they rent good quality sccoters for a little over the islands normal price. We went for it because none of us had ridden before and we wanted a new and well-kept scooter with the hotel coming to help us if we needed them... We didnt need them, but it was worth the convenience anyway.
Ko Lanta is great for families and young people alike... laid back hippy vibe. Its a bit pricey in town (near the hotel) but great value further up the island. Hence the location of this place was a bit inconvenient for the beach bars and restaurants that we wanted to go to.

My husband and I stayed at Pilanta for six nights in December and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are spacious, the jacuzzi tubs and rain shower (or whatever you call those!) are great, and we enjoyed our private plunge pool, even though the water is quite chilly. Most of the staff don't speak fantastic English, but they are quite helpful -- and the hotel offers a good deal on motorbike rental (250 baht a day, though the helmet straps were broken). Since we got a great rate on the room, we were satisfied with our stay.

However, I do think it's important to point out a couple things to would-be guests that are not immediately evident from the website:

1. This hotel is not on the beach. It's not far as the crow flies, but unfortunately the hotel appears not to have negotiated with its neighboring properties to get beach access. That means you either have to sneak into a neighboring resort, or walk the long way around. All told, it's probably a 5-10 minute stroll, which objectively is not far, but it's annoying when you a. realize how close the water actually is and b. notice just how many resorts there are that *do* have direct beach access. Had I known that I probably would have done additional research to find someplace directly on the beach.

2. The aerial shot on the website is an architectural rendering that doesn't show that there are other buildings and resorts around -- not to mention a big cell tower directly next to the hotel. The fact that there are other buildings is actually a kind of nice thing (despite the beach access issue), since the hotel restaurant is quite expensive for the quality of food you get (though the breakfast buffet is nice -- fresh fruit, plus a selection of western and thai choices). Luckily there is a restaurant directly across the road -- like, ten steps from the hotel -- that is both tasty and reasonably priced. Alternatively, you can walk through the Costa Lanta property next door, dodging their security, and get an overpriced but tasty cocktail overlooking the water. (A nice sunset spot.)

3. The room is very dark. Since we're on the first floor, we don't get much direct sunlight through the back (where the plunge pool is) and I don't want to open the front shades since they look directly out to the pool area.

4. The fitness center is really small -- one bike, a nautilis (sp?) machine, a set of weights and several yoga balls. I have yet to find the yoga studio mentioned on their site.

All told, it's a nice hotel with pleasant facilities and an attentive staff. If you can get a good rate, I would recommend it. But I'd definitely check out some of the beachfront places first.

I booked Pilanta 'on the run' having speed read some of the Tripadvisor reviews, a service that I greatly value. I arrived surprised to find myself in a soi well behind the beach, in accomodation enclosed by a suburban fence and with no easy access to the beach (about 0.5 kms on a road not lit at night). I would only point out that there are a large number of accommodation options right on the beach that, having now been to Koh Lanta, would be the absolute first, second and third options for me. Koh Lanta is all about the beach (restaurants, bars, tours, everything operate from the beach) and I have no idea why you would not stay on the beach given the variety available and incredible vistas of accommodation options ranging from 500 baht to 10,000 baht. Unfortunately the staff would not refund my three night prepaid booking by any amount despite the fact that I booked 3 hours before arriving and asked within 30 mins of arriving if I could cancel. It took me that long to realise I made a huge mistake(!) but was told policy, policy, policy (not great for an international 5 star). Frankly, it's only suitable if you don't want to leave the property but even the pool area is small compared to lesser priced options on the beach so I really am at a loss to understand the appeal here. Rooms are very well maintained and of a very high standard, but these (to me) are of no value if there is no sense of location - the reason why you go to Koh Lanta, the reason why you go to Thailand. Research thouroughly - Pilanta will go down as a major blunder for me after 13 years travelling in beautiful Thailand.

We stayed here for 4 nights in November. The hotel is lovely, but it lacks atmosphere in a big way.

The rooms are beautiful. We stayed in a spa deluxe room, we had our own little pool in the backyard, but we never used it, as the water was FREEZING!!

The insects are crazy. Mosquitos are the size of small birds, and even with the strongest repellant money can buy, we were eaten alive. There are all sorts of creepy crawlies on the property, which was quite worrying.

One of the managers there, Andy, a German who has made Lanta his home, was very nice upon arrival, but when we respectfully declined the buffet dinner they had arranged for some special event, he turned quite nasty and didn't really speak to us anymore. Haha. The ladies at the front desk are delightful. So attentive.

The main problem we had was when we checked out. I had 2 international calls on my account which I didn't make, and they insisted that I did. How that occured, I didn't know, but I ended up paying for them, because the poor guy at the desk had no idea what to do.

They have their own little shuttle, which is 50 baht per person to take you down to the village, which is where I recommend you eat, as it's extremely inexpensive and there's a few little shops and what not down there too.

Overall, it's a nice place to stay, very quiet, good breakfast, good ammenities, but perhaps a little pricey. Oh, and don't book your tours through the hotel. The same tours are a third of the price in the village where there are at least 10 vendors and don't expect to be able to use the internet, it hardly ever works as they use WIFI and if there are winds or storms, it wont connect.

We stayed 5 nights in a Pool Villa at this stunning new Hotel and could not fault it in any way.
From arrival when they took our bags and parked the car for us, to our departure when the staff lined up to say good-bye - the stay was one of the best we have ever experienced in all Hotels across Thailand. Service is exemplary, from all staff at all levels, the team know how to be super efficient without being intrusive at all.
The Hotel layout and facilities are superb, and although it was not busy we were never aware of other guests, only when we met in the Restaurant for breakfast.
Rooms are wonderfully appointed with amazing bathrooms and the (very) private pool is simply perfect.
The location is as good as it gets, 2 minutes drive from town and near to a very nice secluded beach, just a short walk away.
Hotel transport is available free at any time and they will not only recommend good restaurants and bars, but take you there and back as you desire.
Summing up - excellent.

This hotel is really fantastic!! Its the ideal place to relax when you get to Lanta!

The rooms were huge with the best bathroom (power shower was excellent) including a jacuzzi!

There was a louge area and the bed was probably the best we had all holiday!!

The staff were so helpful and would taxi us into Saladan in the evening!

The location is OK. It takes 15 mins to walk to town although i wouldnt necessarily walk at night but only 50 baht per person in a taxi. There is a brilliant restaurant and bar opposite from the hotel which we would go in after dinner for a few drinks. Perfect for chilling out after a day of relaxing!!!

The pool at the hotel was clean and warm with a enough beds around to relax!

the breakfast was superb!!!!

The only problem we had was that the english channels advertised were not working and were not due to work until 2011. however they have a library of dvds which were up to date and a dvd player in the room.

Saladan is the best town on the island in my opinion too as we hired a moped and went and had a look around!

I would definitely recommend staying here if you are going to Lanta!
