“Excellent value to relax.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2010

We stayed in a bungalow at Emerald for 3 nights. For 500 bahts a night, there is nothing to complain about. The room was quite big, with a spacious bathroom. The food at their restaurant was good and cheap. A very nice place to relax. It's next to the beach, but this is clearly not the best beach on Koh Lanta. The southernmost beaches are much nicer, but for the price, it was very good. They also have a big swimming pool. The pick-up at the pier is included ; the hotel is not accessible by foot. You can however rent a motorbike for 200 bahts per day at the hotel. A very nice thing to do. You can this way enjoy a ride around the island, easily go to the city center and other nice restaurants around the island. Also, the roads are not very busy. The visit of the Khao Mai Kaew Cave on Koh Lanta is very worth it too, if you don't mind being covered in mud. Quite impressive!
The downsides : we had to fight 2-3 cockroaches in the room and the selection of tv channels provided was not really appropriated, unless you like to watch religious programs of all kind and sermons in asian languages.
They also have an Internet room : 2 bahts per minute or 100 baths per hour.

We really liked it! Everyone who was staying here, booked extra nights. And we did too. Ting Tong Bar (the bar from the hotel) is also the best. The stuff is really nice! Toffee, you're great! Everyone should go here!

we stayed at lanta emerald for 3 nights. we booked with the hotel on the boat coming from phi phi as a lady approached us. we paid 800 baht for an air conditioned en suite bungalow which was amazing value. there is a swimming pool which was right outside our bungalow which was not very crowded at all. the staff were nice and helped us book our travel to Krabi and also rented us motorbikes.

definetly a really good find and the best bargain we came across in our 3 week trip

my friend and i were travelling around from island to island and last island was koh lanta; wish it was the first. we were on the boat over to the island when we were sold on staying at lanta emerald. Thank god it looked the same as in the pamplet when we got there. We stayed in a bungalow and it was awesome, we didnt want to leave! So we stayed for our whole last week and completely relaxed in there awesome pool and restaurant. Everyone there is soooo nice and welcoming, wish we could have stayed longer!!!
defintely recommend anyone and everyone to go there for an amazing vacation!

Mr. Yeah (the manager ends everything with Yeah, so we called him Mr. Yeah) was the most unpleasant person that my group had to deal with in Thailand. Rude, short, money-grubbing, and generally unhelpful, Mr. Yeah tried his best to make us feel unwelcome at his hotel.

On the first night, my party decided to eat at a restaurant in another hotel recommended by our travel guide. We asked to use the phone to have that restaurant pick us up, were asked why, and then were told we would be required to pay a 30 baht fee to use their phone! We decided to use it (thank God, the dinner at the La Lanta Hotel was amazing) and we were surprised to wait almost an hour for them to pick us up despite them saying 20 minutes. We thought something was strange so after a while we decided to wait outside. A couple minutes later, a confused looking man came to our door asking if we were going to that restaurant. Apparently Mr. Yeah had turned away our ride and the guy had come back twice looking for us! Mr. Yeah's behavior was seriously rude and unacceptable and made us not want to give him any of our extra money for food/what not.

I think we could have put up with his behavior if the hotel had been amazing, but it really wasn't anything special. While the beach property was very nice (like everywhere in Ko Lanta), our room was infested with ants which took over our luggage and beds. The bathroom had garbage stuffed between the holes. The faucet was broken and kept on turning to the other side of the sink. We only had sheets as blankets. The dresser smelt like mold. The rooms had only sheets for blankets. To top things off, we also found a cockroach in our room the last night. Yuck. For 1000 baht a night, this hotel should have at least provided free Wifi, but instead charged 2baht a minute (this is more than the going price for internet in Thailand!) for internet.

We had to leave to go back to Phuket early the next morning, so we asked to pay the night before as not to cause inconvenience to the hotel staff. We paid the fee and when we got no receipt, we asked Mr. Yeah for a receipt. He grunted at us and then threw the receipt in our faces. When we returned the key the next morning, he made a lot of noise by throwing it on the floor. Very unprofessional.

I would avoid this place if possible. There are many other hotels on the island with almost the exact beach front with pleasant staff and much better bang for your buck. I suggest going down past Klong Khong Island and skipping over to some of the other beaches because there were much, much nicer properties out there for 200 baht (and even places for the same price) more than this place. I really do not recommend this place!!!

I decided to visit Koh Lanta during my backbacking trip to Thailand and was introduced to Emerald on the ferry from Phi Phi Islands (by the owners daughter). Since I had no place booked on Koh Lanta I decided to try it out for a night since my plan wasn't to stay on Lanta for very long. Well, long story short, I stop backpacking and ended up staying at Emerald for the remainder of my trip. I loved everything about it. It's relaxed, charming and the perfect place for people traveling alone. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic getaway since you will not be spending much time by yourselves.

... attitudes, bad price/value ratio. the bungalows were not clean, a/c not working at all and the price charged much too expensive. the only good thing was the ext. massage & bar crew. if you look for a good hotel at the beach of koh lanta, just go to the hotel next to emerald: family owned and very good value-price ratio.
