Stayed at Papillon for 5 nights, on the recommendation of the guesthouse we stayed at in Phuket. What a fantastic little gem! The Belgian lady who runs the place is so helpful and friendly, we didnt think twice about asking her for any advice/information. Her staff were equally friendly and approachable. The accommodation was just right, a spacious bungalow (with a huge bathroom!), aircon, fan, own porch with swing and hammock. Free Wi fi in the restaurant area is great. Food Excellent (Especially the home baked chocolate tolls and ciabatta bread!) Beach is just less than 100m from the guesthouse grounds, stunning! Quiet and peaceful with lovely clear water. Some brilliant beach bars next door also. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking for some peaceful, chill-out tranquility!

My wife and I stay here for 4 nights. At 600 baht/night this was a great value. The food was great. Actually we ate most all of our meals here after getting food poisoning at Lanta Miami's restaurant. The ladies at Papillon were really laid back and easy going. The main dining/lounge area had nice bamboo tables/hammocks/thai fabric pillows and a really great mix of music playing. We were really happy to stay here and even noticed several families staying. We'll be back one day, maybe one day with some kids. Thanks ladies, you made our visit a great one!!!

Papillon Bunglaows is an absolute bohemian diamond in the rough , if your looking for 5 star accomadation, eygptian cotton sheets on your four poster bed , champagne breakfasts well this isnt your bag. However if you fancy utter relaxation within a tropical paradise then i couldnt recommend Papillon enough. There are 9 bungalows in total of different price brackets for the first couple of days we stayed in the more expensive with a/c , tv and fridge then downgraded to the cheapest room which was simple but very fairly priced at 11 pounds a night .The rooms are simple yet clean and bright , have a wardrobe (big bonus for a girl who loves clothes ) and have a very nice bathroom / wet room to boot. Although it is important to have a comfortable stay you are only in the room to sleep and believe you me we have stayed in some horrors. The resort itself is set in tropical surroundings which are just gorgeous .ilse the proprietor has done a fabulous job make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The swiming pool located next to the restaurant is small but deliciously refreshing comes in handy after a hot day at one of the many beaches.
What made this resort especially unique and extra special for us was the food. Oh me oh my the food is just out of this world both western and thai food was culinary heaven out of the 8 nights we stayed there we went somewhere else once and instantly regretted it. Ilse is a baker by trade and has taught iaag to make delicious pastries and puddings . i have never tasted a pain au chocolat quite like it .
My boyfriend has a wheat intolerancy bless him so while i was tucking in ilse went above and beyond to make sure he had a sweet treat as well cooking him banana flambee and the best chocolate mousse ever .The sheer friendliness of the staff made it extra special for me catering for your every whim...highly recommend hiring a scooter from ilse to take you round the islands...without a doubt we will be coming back to Ko lanta as its an amazing island and we wouldnt stay anywhere else but papillon !!!

We spent two nights in Papillon in Ko Lanta on our round-the-Thailand trip. We were welcomed very nicely by the owners, who are two nice European women, and they showed us the room, which looked quite good.
The rooms are actually okay for a short stay: there was an A/C, hot water, electricity and a fridge but no TV and no real shower (just a room with a toilet, sink, shower hose and a hole in the floor).
The main problem was that the room was not very clean, it had some smell and lots and lots of ants. I don't know how we spent the first night but for the second night we bought a repellent in 7-11 and sprayed all their paths and small holes they came from. After 2-3 sprays we could kill all of the ants and celebrated the victory of humans.
The restaurant was probably the reason why we chose Papillon - it is just great, very relaxing and comfy, all in that hippie style, with very good food. A bit expensive, however. The restaurant has free wi-fi but you have to pay for electricity.
The beach is very close, at nights you can hear the tides that were so rough in September that we were scared to touch the sea. On a good day you can see Phi Phi from the beach. The other side of Ko Lanta is very calm, on the contrary.
I do not know if we can recommend Papillon to our friends. That's definitely a place to stay but in Phuket we stayed in a much much better hotel at almost twice cheaper price.
Ko Lanta is a very slow and relaxed place. Papillon is nothing different. In fact, there you don't want to care about shower, ants or anything else - you can feel this only in Thailand.
