We spent 3 nights at Anda Lay in June 2012 and were not impressed. The resort is small and situated directly on a quiet beach, but the views pictured in traveler photos here were not to be found. In fact, the entire front of the resort was separated from the beach by heavy landscape fabric. This is likely an annual preparation for the green season winds and rain, but having the view completely obstructed really detracted from the enjoyment of laying by the pool.
The room was ample in size, but cleanliness was lacking. We found trash from the previous guests still in the trash can as well as toiletries left in the shower. The hardwood floors were buckling and bowing. Furniture and countertops were worn and showing their age. Insects in the room were fairly common, but tolerable.
As for the staff, the women at reception were pleasant enough, but the gentleman running the restaurant / bar was surly and disinterested in carrying out his duties. There were no spa services on offer during our stay
We booked the room through a discount website and still felt underwhelmed by the value. I would absolutely not encourage anyone to pay this hotel's rack rates listed on their website. There are better places to stay on Ko Lanta.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- A Buddhist hotel in a mainly Muslim area. Very attentive staff, stylish rooms, and a good restaurant which in the evening extended onto the sand, lit by oil lamps. The hotel is not yet quite finished (no large pool - only a large hole) so rates are half what they will be when completed. ... more less
