If you are not very interested in the big resorts and tourist places, but still want to go to Koh Lanta, this is the place for you!
The location in the very south of the Island is away from most tourists. It is quiet and not crowded in any way.
Food is among the best I had in Thailand, and the restaurant is very nice and cozy. After dinner you can move over to the separate bar. Here is an even cozier atmosphere and you can choose to sit or lie down on many different spots. Just the right music - and the right volume - great drinks and not crowded makes this to a favorite place!
The rooms are nice and clean. However, this is no luxury resort with swimming pools etc. It's a great place to stay if you just need the basics and are looking for a peaceful and lazy vacation.
The staff is extremely nice and friendly, not so formal as in many places, which makes Bamboo Bay a place where you want to return to.

This is a lovely resort at the southern most end of Lanta Island. This resort is quiet, simple and shares a part of the beach that has very few people. The breakdown:
- the customer services is incredible (they went out of their way for me)
- the rooms are comfortable
- washrooms are a bit shabby and are in need of renovation
- the upper bungalows do require a bit of a hike uphill; the stairs are quite steep
- the restaurant was good; prices were comparable to other restaurants on the island
- wi-fi was fast

I spend 9 days in this lovely place. The staff is very friendly and professinonell. The food was very good. The rooms are simple (more like the early times in thailand), but with AC and clean and a very very good bed!!!. The whole place is very individuel designed and lives very much by the kindness and sweet atmosphare the staff is creating. I had a great time here, relaxed and with a iuietness I only remember from "the old times in the early eighties", which I love!
Next to Bamboo Bay Resort ist the Baan Phu Lae Resort and Restaurant which I highly can recommend as well.Thank you very much !!!

Room Tip: The rooms next to the Restaurant and above the shop are good.

We stayed 6 nights, and enjoyed our stay very much.
We had pre booked and payed for a Fan Room which was located up the very steep hill, after realising that each time we needed water, food & service we would have to walk the drive way, we upgraded to a room just above their fabric shop, with ac, it wasn't the ac we needed but a shorter walk to the room. This cost us an extra 1000tb/night. The beach was wonderful, a little rocky at low tide, the beach at Waterfall Bay just to the Nth is better, but the walk there is Steep! Would we stay there again, no. there are other places on the beach that for the cost, provide all that we were looking for. A bungalow with a verandah, easy access to the beach and a bar that serves food, drink and friendly service. Bamboo bay has all of this and a a great view. Don't commit until you check out other options. The staff were great, but everything had a cost. Don't regret our stay, but there are other options this end of the island.

Reading the other reviews I agree with most comments. Bamboo bay is overpriced if you look at the rooms, but it is compensated by the friendly staff and super food and view! Jon please invest in furniture, room 7 has a splendid view but the bamboo furniture leaves dust because it is worn down! We had a small visitor in the bathroom of 13 during the night, who came through a hole in the wall. The electric wiring will not be acceptable in Denmark! One good point about the room are the good pillows and fresh crispy bed linnen! But if you all dont mind this! This restaurant is the best on the Island we tried! Better then the recommended' Same Same but different'. So other tourist not staying in this resort, try it, you'll like it! As breakfast I could recommend eating from the dessert card! Pancakes but even better is the Roti with banana and honey! As a Belgian used to real bread, baked by small bakers, the soft white industrial toast is realy poor and to be avoided in Thailand unless you are used to that food! For lunch or dinner our favorites: 1.sweet grean curry coconut milk soup was divine and 2. the steamed sea food in hot curry (you can ask a mild version -a local speciality) was unique! Avoid all the food that you know like chips, burgers, pasta and pizza! You only live twice! therefore also drink at least once the Mojito! Thank you Nut, Nick, Yi... And all people for taking care of us.

Very simple rooms (old furniture, really bad bathroom), without breakfasts, far from harbor, quite expensive, no fridge or safe in the room. Whole time of our visit we heard screaming of lizzards on our roof.
BUT!!!
Resort is placed in beautiful and peaceful part of island. Restaurant has one of the bests views of sea I have seen ever. Staff is very friendly.

I can recommend this hotel with clear conscience.

To the resort's defense they had just reopened from closing for the low season and we were their first guests for the new season. However, I think it is fair to expect great service when you are the only guests the staff has to worry about.

We opted for a non-aircon room up the hill and if you choose one of these bungalows you'll get a little extra exercise every day on your way to the resort restaurant or down to the beach as the hill is extremely steep, but this didn't bother us at all because the views from the top of the hill are magnificent and your room window provides a panoramic view of Bamboo Bay.

This was probably the first time that we have left a hotel bathroom cleaner after we used it then when we checked in as the bathroom wasn't clean at all and was covered in grit and sand and the sink and wall were filthy. Before using the bathroom I had to spray down everything with water. It was obvious that the room hadn't been checked and cleaned before we arrived and we had the feeling that it had been left the way it was since the hotel closed the previous season.

The resort is well off the beaten path and it is definitely quiet if that's what you're looking for on your vacation. The beach is a bit rocky and tough to get to at high tide with very little area to lounge on.

The restaurant food is fantastic but a bit pricy and you won't have any other options near the resort.

A motorbike is necessary if you stay here otherwise you'll spend heaps on taxi rides! When we rented a bike from the resort it cost more than we had paid in other areas of Thailand and the staff told us that 300Baht per day was the going rate on the island. We didn't have any choice so we rented the scooter that was in dire shape as it was old with poorly maintained brakes. This is an issue on the hilly, curvy roads leading to and from Bamboo Bay! Upon arriving at the next beach over we learned that much nicer scooters are available for 200-250Baht and no one had rentals higher than 250Baht. I felt a little jaded and taken advantage of after discovering this so we decided to check out the next day.

The staff is friendly but we had issues with the cleanliness issues of our room and felt a little too isolated all the way out in Bamboo Bay! Kantiang Beach was a much better option for us... still quiet and away from the busier beaches of Koh Lanta but with a number of great restaurant, cafe, and market options. The beach here was also a lot better for lounging!
