“Zen-like beauty”
Reviewed December 31, 2013 via mobile

I can honestly say that my wife and I were a bit skeptical the days leading up to our arrival to Sri Lanta as the latest reviews appeared to be somewhat negative. When we arrived we were blown away by Sri Lanta's pure beauty and serenity.

From the moment we arrived we were in heaven. Great and friendly check-in and the check-in area is very open and inviting that you can already see you going to have a great time.

I can admit that our room was a quite a steep walk up the hill, but we thankfully managed and were grateful that our bags were taken up for us. The veranda room is beautiful and quaint and really makes you feel like you are in a jungle like paradise. Loved the four poster bed and doors opening onto the veranda - only complaint is that the air conditioner is very weak and could only be turned on when you are in the room, so when you would arrive to the room after a hot day on the beach our room feels like a sauna. It would then take about 2 hours for the room to moderately cool down. We then decided to remove our key from the key tag which allows the air con to stay on while we were away.

Breakfast was phenomenal - great variety and fantastic crumpets, oh how I miss those crumpets.

The pool area is very nice and we really enjoyed the pool. There are a lot of loungers but not sure if there is enough for all resort residents - I would suggest adding some more by the pool and modifying the umbrellas so they can be adjusted to move with the sun.

The beach is serene and relaxing, clean water and a nice stretch of beach for good walks. Not necessarily the most beautiful beach in Thailand, as it isn't that beautiful tropical blue colour but it is clean, warm, calm and you can still see through the water.

Great drinks and cocktails and we loved the daily happy hour. We really enjoyed the meals at the restaurant especially their appetizers and loved that drinks and food was served to us while relaxing on the beach.

We tried out several spa treatments and the atmosphere was wonderfully relaxing and beautiful. We enjoyed it but was not our best in Thailand.

Overall we loved our stay in Sri Lanta, from our experience in Ko Lanta it appeared to be one of the best in Lanta. Would definately recommend the hotel any day.

Positives- quiet hillside cottages, nice timber architecture, friendly staff, NZ manager always happy to lighten your wallets, shady lawn with recliners beside beach and pool, clean and comfortable. The four island tour at 800 baht is good value- highlight is swimming thru a dark but luminescent 100m sea tunnel to a 'lake' but go early or it will be crowded.
Negatives- rooms are very dark (inadequate lighting plus dark-stained timbers) and it is not possible to read in bed at night, wifi is slow (they claim it is an island-wide problem), long steep walk to most cottages- try a beachside unit if mobility is a problem, restaurant is expensive- try Miami 2 doors down for better value, try booking tours and bike hire at various agencies along road rather than pay hotel rates, we went in December which is peak tourist season and more expensive (USD 170 pn) and crowded.

This is my third time staying at Srilanta and I'm only 32 years old! I love the place for a number of reasons.
It is extremely good value for money - you have 4 star facilities but with 3 star prices. Each room is a bespoke bungalow and feels extremely authentic, rustic and serene. There is a 4 poster bed in each room, which adds to the romance and the bathrooms seem to have been renovated this year. The accommodation is therefore relatively basic but that is the whole charm of Srilanta for those who are bored of identikit hotels which could be in any beach resort. The bungalows are on a beautiful path up a steep hill (request a lower bungalow if you struggle physically) and I think they all have a mezzanine / balcony - some even have a bath on the balcony.
The first time we visited Srilanta, we were worried about the location but it is absolutely perfect. It feels like you have your own private beach but just 50m to the right, there are dozens of bars and restaurants along the beach. They cannot be heard from the hotel, so you have the best of both worlds - plenty of choice but with the air of privacy you would want from a beach holiday. As a general rule of thumb, all the food in this part of Thailand is wonderful and the cocktails are a little bit hit and miss! Lucky fish restaurant one or two down from SriLanta is particularly good and the local kids put on a fire juggling show.
The spa is fantastic but you have cheaper options along the beach. Try Miami Massage which has a small hut on the beach - having a sunset massage there is bliss and also very cheap!!
Koh Lanta town is worth 3 hours of your time if you want to buy some fake sunglasses and other nik naks, otherwise definitely try the four island boat tour and the elephant treks are also a lot of fun.
I would recommend Srilanta to anybody. The staff are attentive and friendly and the infinity pool, sun loungers, restaurant and spa are all of a much better quality than the price suggests.
Enjoy!

Room Tip: If you struggle with steep hills, then request a lower room - it's a struggle, especially when i...

We stayed here for 6 nights after moving out of the awful lanta palm beach and were very happy with our choice. The bungalows itselfs are nice and we felt comfy staying in them which was good as it was raining for most of our stay. As they are situated in the tropucal garden you cannot expect them to be as sterile as a european hotel so there will be ants and other insects around. Unfortunately there was a bit of a leak from the heavy rain and we felt that the staff was a bit overwhelmed by requests at that time so it was not dealt with during our stay.
The restaurant was good although the breakfast buffet could use a bit of a spice up and the drinks are rather pricy. The pool and beach are lovely and the nice staff will help you if you need anything. We would stay there again would especially recommend it if you are seeking a place to relax.

I stayed at Sri Lanta in November 2013 and in November 2004. Obviously being a beach front resort, the weather can play havoc with any property, but in the 9 years since my return, the resort is truly in need of some tender loving care. The staff at Sri Lanta was lovely and very accommodating. The food, while pricey compared to the beach offerings, is prepared expertly and you are given a large amount of choices.

What I was surprised about during this stay was that the rooms feel old, outdated and were definitely not clean. Because the resort was almost fully booked, I was accommodated in a beach front house. As a solo traveler, I felt a bit unsafe in this 2-bedroom ground level house that was cut off from the resort, but completely open to the beach front. Additionally it seemed as if the house had not be cleaned in months. Spiderwebs occupied various parts of the bathroom. The trash can was full of someone else's trash and the blinds in some of the rooms had been broken and sloppily repaired. The air conditioner remote in the main bedroom was broken so there was no temperature adjustment available and I had to stand on the bed to turn it off and on.

Overall I had a pleasant stay and the common areas at Sri Lanta are what you should consider for this property. The beautiful pool, stunning beach front access, the lounge chairs and umbrellas. If you're not planning on spending much time in your room, as I did not, then the location is something to consider.

I stayed there for 5 nights in November and loved the place. Public areas of the hotel are stunning and evening yoga classes facing sunset gives sun salutation its true meaning. Food is very nice, rooms are big and clean with AC and deco is nice and sober. I had a room with a lovely view and a balcony. The spa is set outdoors in the garden and you get a truly relaxing experience. I went there on my own after the girlfriend I was supposed to come with had an emergency. The staff made me feel very welcome and everyone was very friendly and really got out of their way to make my stay very special. Muay- the lady at the desk- even mailed me back the glasses and book I forgot in the room after I left- try that one in Europe !!!!!
So yes I agree with the other reviewers it is slightly pricier than your average resort in Thailand but the service definitely makes it worth the extra money but as a lady travelling on my own, it felt like a real treat
