“Nice but Overpriced for condition of resort”
Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

Nice resort but overpriced. If they wish to charge this much they need to renovate some of the bungalows- a bit Of paint and some new locks!
We were right beside the next resort to the right (across the stream) and the noise from the pirate bar on the beach until 3,4am was absolutely awful. There were a few nights we didn't sleep at all...and complained to the managers but they didn't seem to be able to do anything about it- could be the case that their are no laws about noise pollution or curfew times for DJs etc . Which is a shame as the island is so peaceful.

i am a seasoned traveller in thailand and i feel that the hotel's compulsory new year gala dinner was atrocious. For THB2000 per pax, we were served very bad food, by thai standards. The management should have organized this party better as it was made compulsory for me to sit there and be tortured by their performances. You cannot just get the receptionist to be a professional emcee for the night for all your guests.
The room was quite spacious but the hot water was not working very well, the bed too hard, the pillows too flat. Cleanliness is not their strong point. There is no phone so cannot call for a hair dryer. There is no hot water kettle as well. The only consolation is the beach is just a few steps away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with working water heater.

We booked in advance, it's not cheap and you think you might expect 4 star service. Not the case. The wifi is either extremely slow or not working at all and not available in the rooms. Staff lacks the Thai friendliness.
Our bathroom flooded itself since the shower water gathered at the entrance. Breakfast is simple and ends at 10 am sharp. Wouldn't go back.

Stayed for a week in November 2013.
Good bungalows, good aircon, good bath - although hot showers was few and in between.
The restaurant was ok, good service. Breakfast buffet was OK. Really helpull staff, moped rental avaialble. 10 min drive from pier.
Beach was really nice.
If you are looking for party area, I would look further down the beach - around Klong nin. We were two frends travelling (around 30) and we did fint it abit too quiet.
But all in all a good hotel! Better for families than for friends perhaps..

I found it hard to evaluate options in Lanta because of the lack of consistent and frequent reviews here on TripAdvisor. Such was true for Nakara as well, but I'm glad we "took the risk" and booked here.

I agree that the rooms could probably use a little work, but I'm staying in the cheapest option and I'm still very satisfied. The value for your money is spot on (at least for what I'm used to as an American). The pool facilities are very nice, and everything overlooks the sea. The bar and restaurant prices are very reasonable as far as I'm concerned, but I do agree that the food isn't the best. It's OK, but it often isn't hot enough. No big deal though as there are plenty of tasty, affordable eating options along the beach.

Again, don't expect a "picture perfect" room, but for the price, it's more than worth any small imperfections. No issues with hot water as others have reported.

Wifi is a little weak at times, but you're at the beach, so I'm sure you'll survive.

Overall, would definitely recommend Nakara, especially if you are looking for something affordable that offers a taste of luxury. At worst, you're on a wonderful Lanta beach! It's very interesting though how quickly the scene changes on the Thailand islands the moment you move inland from the beach. Not quite the same.

Room Tip: Standard room is fine if you're on a budget. Otherwise, maybe take the next level up to increase...

My wife and I have visited destinations all over Thailand for the last eight years but had not been to Koh Lanta until February 2013. We chose this resort because of the reasonable price and its location on Long Beach. After staying there for a week we both agree that the facilities were more than adequate. The little cottages were basic but clean. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The pools were delightful. The beach was phenomenal. The breakfast and other purchased meals were delicious. Motor scooters were available for rent and we explored many beautiful areas - especially Old Town. We agree that Koh Lanta is an fascinating island that we will visit again - and most likely we will stay at this same resort which helped us develop a positive impression of this "Swedish" destination.

Walked by the resort and asked if they had a family room. Got a really nice bungalow facing the beachfront. Since it's green season the resort was mostly empty and we had the decks and pool for our self. The room was good, but the beds were a little hard and the bathroom door was broken. We had large windows facing the beach and a pleasant veranda. The two pools was right next to us and we lounged at the deck facing the sea.
Breakefast was not included. We ate lunch there a couple of times and the food was ok and service good. We asked if a friend and her little son could visit us at the pool, but they have a strict policy that the pools are only for staying guests. I understand this for high season, but they could perhaps have made an exeption with an almost empty hotel?
We stayed four nights and would have stayed longer, but the last day they drained the big pool for cleaning. The pool will be closed for a month. Since the sea was to rough to swim in we needed a pool and didn't stay on.
Overall a good place to stay in green season, with few people around and relaxed atmosphere.

Room Tip: Bungalow 101 was very nice in low season, might be to noisy there in high season, beeing so close to...
