Owner description: Famous for its tourist-friendly floating markets, Damnoen Saduak is the one you’ll find in the tourist literature on Thailand. Bring your camera along to witness the river packed with wooden boats overflowing with fruit and vegetables, which they sell to people standing on land. The scene is colourful and loud; just as you’d expect from a Thai market. Just 100km from Bangkok, it’s best accessed by package tour, which any local tour operator can organize.

“Good photo opportunity”

Seeing a floating market was something I wanted to do in Thailand as I've never seen anything like this before. I visited on a morning bus tour from Bangkok, which was very easy/convenient and reasonably priced (compared to what some reviewers have paid for taxis there). The market itself is fun, there's lots of different things on sale including some lovely food and fruit. It's more expensive than other markets for souvenirs though I think. We left about 11:00am and it was starting to get extremely busy, so I'd recommend going early. I didn't bother to pay for the boat through the market, I was happy walking around and getting photos from the edge of the water. There's a bridge you can stand on to get the best photos.

“Deserves to go”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

It was really amazing to go there, worth to go.
You can shop while float, but you have to negotiate to buy staff.
It's far from bangkok around 100 km, so if you are planning to go there try to book with a good travel agency.
Dont be missed with small floating markets in Bangkok..

“Floating Market Damnoen Saduak: amazing, not obtrusive, crowded!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

An airconditioned minibus drove us (tourists from Indonesia, Germany and me from Belgium) from Bangkok to the floating market of Damnoen Saduak, located at about 100 km in the Southwest of Bangkok in the Ratchaburi Province. On the way we passed some interesting places (the salt-fields along the Gulf of Thailand in Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram). This is also the region where the famous Siamese twice were born... Nearby the pier with the longtailboats bringing the tourists to the floating market we stopped and visited a small coconut-factory. And than we went on the longtailboats to the floating market. This trip along different canals, where you can see how the local population lives along the water) takes about 15-20 minutes and is very nice, certainly for the photographers because alot of nice shots to make. Finally we arrived at the Floating Market of Damnoen Saduak, a very crowded touristic place, amazing, not to obtrusive population, women on quite small boats trying to make money by selling fruit, vegetables, souvenirs, clothes, hats, etc.....On the border of the rather narrow canals are wooden small marketstalls build on wooden poles in the water and they are also trying to sell their stuff. The golden law on this market: bargain as much as possible with manytimes an incredible result! We went in group on the same style of small wooden boat for a tour through the market, and I think to remember that we paid 200 Bht/person for this 1 hour tour: it's really worth it! An unforgettable visit! Our minibus was waiting for us on the parking next to the floating market. In the neighbourhood we had to visit some other very interesting places, like a woodcarving factory, the Rose Garden and a crocodile- and elephantshow, but these places are reviewed in another report. Enjoy the Floating Market of Damnoen Saduak!

“great fun”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

I have to say that this floating market was amazing, even my partner thought it was well worth the visit. it was raining but this did not matter. it was colourful with all the coloured umberellas. it was a very different way of shopping but such good fun. Not the easiest way to make a living. How some of the older woman manouvered the boats around is beyond me, you have to admire them. Great character and atmosphere. i plan to go back when i return to hua hin next year

“Shop while you float”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Interesting. The river cruise was a nice experience but the charges for the hire of a boat was a rip off. Must really bargain if you wish to purchase. But did not feel safe eating any of the food or fruits sold.
