“Affectionate care in Ayutthaya”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

Anyone mislead by the term "Resort" could be astonished to arrive at the Old Palace. It does not offer multi-pools, impersonal butler service,award-winning opulence, hundreds of guests...just the opposite. Hurrah!
We were delighted by the family's affectionate hospitality, effortless help with everything, the airy bungalows, food and great location near temple ruins . The included tuc-tuc tour was lead by the eldest daughter and her two sisters (aged 12 and 6) ! When I left my shoes behind, mum dashed to the station with them for me!

The rooms are clean, modern, big beds, light rooms with many windows, bath ok and its quiet. The price is absolutely ok and the friendly staff helps you with all your needs: tours, transit, buddhism. The boat trip was great, you can stop at every tempel you want and see how the thais live near the water. We also did the tuktuk tour which was good too, cheap and very good and honest driver. Breakfast was fresh and good, always with fruits and a choice of eggs. A temple is nearby and to the ruins is not far away. New bikes are for hire. Prices for minibar and drinks are good. Free Wifi and very fast. Modern aircondition and the very best (because quiet) on our now 7 month long journey.

If we ever come to Ayutthaya again, this will be our first choice!

The best thing about this guesthouse is the staff. The bungalows themselves are quite basic but they are set amongst lotus garden, perfectly comfortable and far more traditional than many of the other hotels that we stayed in in Thailand. The hotel staff could not do enough for you. Every morning we were asked what we would like for breakfast and they would cook us anything that we asked for. The guesthouse is very small and friendly and breakfast was served outside amongst the gardens. One morning the owner saw me looking at some local tropical fruit that was sitting in a bowl on the side and after talking me through each one, she went off and when she returned she had prepared me a fruit salad with all of the fruits that she had been teaching me about. She would not accept any money for it. It's about a 15 minute walk from the guesthouse to the wats of the Ayutthaya, but the hotel will take oyu on sunset tuk tuk tours if requested and will also help you arrange a return back to Bangkok when needed.

We stayed 2 nights in the Old Palace. We are traveling with another family of 4 and had two bungalows with a connecting door. The owners placed an additional bed, the room is full then, but with the Thai weather you use the place for sleeping only anyway. It was clean enough for the price you pay. The breakfast is good with choices of 3 types of breakfast (eggs, yoghurt or Thai), you can also eat lunch and dinner here. There is free wifi and the owners can arrange tours for you. We had a boat trip of 2 hours visiting 3 temples along side the river, we enjoyed ourselves very much.

we only stayed here for one night aswe traveled up through the north of thailand, it was ok for just one night, the lady running was very nice and her family they made us feel very welcome, room was ok but nothing special, she cooked a fantastic green curry for us one night, we also had breakfast it was fine for a little guest house, there are plenty of temples to visit, not many restaurants around, we had her husband take us around for the day he was great he showed us so much and it was worth it, i did not cost much and we was out for at least 4 hours, he met us from the train station which was nice.

Just outside of town (80 baht by tuk tuk from the bus). Quiet setting, private chalet. My room was airy and simple - mini bar, air con (worked ok). TV didn't work but I didn't care.
The owner is really lovely - I'd recommend you eat at least one dinner there - fantastic cook. They can organise tours etc but there's no pressure to go on one. I hired a bike elsewhere - just bigger than the ones they had available. I didn't go out one day, which seemed to mean my room didn't get cleaned - change of towels, water etc. But I got those things when I asked. Free access to the internet. The place is very close to some key wats.
