Average stay at Ayothaya Hotel until the staff ripped me off

Review of Ayothaya Hotel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 25, 2012via mobile
I arrived at Ayothaya Hotel late and night after being in the hospital with food poisoning so decided to stay there since it seemed clean and nice. It was clean and I had an okay stay there. Unfortunately, they did not give me back my 300 baht key deposit when I checked out and I did not think to ask for it since I was still very sick. After returning to Bangkok I realized what had happened and sent them an email asking for them to credit my visa card with the 300 baht credit card. After not hearing back in 3 days, I called them and the woman I talked to said she would have to check with the manager and would call me back that same afternoon. That was yesterday, I still have not heard back from them and it is gettig exasperating. Their customer service is atrocious and I believe the reason this isn't being handled is that the receptionist pocked the money and now can't explain the situation to the manager.

We went to Ayutthaya for the weekend at short notice without first doing some research on hotels. The Ayothaya was recommended by a local agent and suited us for an overnight stay. Our air-conditioned room was large and well furnished, but perhaps in need of a mild renovation. The Queen-sized bed was firm and very comfortable, and the room quiet. The big window looked out to the back of the hotel and the room was bright and airy. Our biggest problem was getting the shower temperature and water flow right. A very generous and tasty hot breakfast was included. The people on the front desk were cheerful and helpful, and check-in and out were done with the minimum fuss.
In the same circumstances we would stay there again but if in Ayutthaya for a longer stay, we’d probably look at alternatives.

Room tip: The hotel is almost directly opposite the Ayutthaya markets, which are very busy. Rooms facing the street might be noisy.

We stayed there one night because we arrived to Ayutthaya late at night and all the other accommodation in the area was aleady full. We changed the hotel in the morning.

They offer "cheaper" rooms in the building at the backyard. It costs 700 bhat, has no window and a very bed smell coming from the bathroom. The room is big, though, and very clean. The bed is enormous but has a plastic surface that sticks to your body even though it's coverd with a sheet.

LAUNDRY: Do not do your laundry at the hotel, it's reduculously expensive. Walk down the small street and find one of the laundry services for 49 bhat/kg.

Stayed here in January and had a pleasant enough stay. You could get much better accomodation in a guesthouse around the corner for less money. We stayed here because it had it's own pool (the water was cold). Breakfast was included in price (I think we paid about £20) but it was one of the worst I had on a 5 week tour. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Location wise it is very central and a short distance from all the attractions. Even if you don;t stay here I would recommend you get a tuk tuk to this location. I would recommend you hire a peddle bike for about £2.50 for the day (hotel charges double this, around the corner on the right there are loads of bike sellers) and have a relaxed day out sight seeing.

We found this hotel very late and in fact technically the same day we arrived. We booked at 12.30am and arrived at 9am that morning. Despite this and arriving much earlier that the usual 12pm check in, we only had to wait 15 mins and the room was ready for us. Nice service on the front desk and a helpful bellboy to take our luggage.

The room when we got there I would describe at ok. There was a very stained carpet and the windows you could not see out of for grime. Below through is the main road so years of pollutants from cars etc have made the windows almost unable to see through.

The toilet did not work properly, with it continually on flush, so there was no water to flush. This meant filling the cistern with water to be able to flush properly. I do not know why they would not have checked or fixed this before guests arrive.

So room was very below average but then we are only sleeping there and out most of the day. A taxi ride to the various sites was not too far unless you choose like we did to visit one of the furthest and but which was the best location to start.

There was a average pool on the 2nd floor which was a good size and you could have a swim in there.

Overall good accommodation for the right price is very lacking in Ayattayua, and this was adequate as a base to explore, but one night was enough.

Room tip: It does not really matter if you have a room with a window, you can not see out.

We came in late at night and couple of other hotels we checked were fully booked and quite expensive too so we found this hotel which offered us a room at 1200 baht. Room was ok, but wifi didn't work in the room (only from lobby).

Given the price and appearance of other hotels I really think this is a good value for money is you are staying just one night at his town.
